  • GM for hire, can I start today!!!

I love Broncos football and am one of the many that simply cannot live with losing, I like Mike Shanahan as a coach, but question some of his personnel decisions, so if I were the GM of the DENVER BRONCOS this is what I would do to fix our beloved Broncos for the 2008 season and beyond!!!

    My 2008 off-season:

Retirees:OT Matt Lepsis, WR Rod Smith

    Cuts:LB Ian Gold

Re-Structure/ Re-Sign:RB Travis Henry, TE Daniel Graham, DT Alvin McKinley, DE Eneneezer Ekuban, K Jason Elam, S Sam Brandon

Tenders:C/G Chris Meyers (3rd rd.), CB Dominique Foxworth (3rd rd.), CB Karl Paymah (3rd rd.), S Hamza Abdullah (2nd rd.)

Trades:WR Javon Walker to Tennessee for CB Pac-Man Jones, #12 pick and conditional day 2 pick in 09' to Detroit for DT Shaun Rogers, Miami signs CB Dominique Foxworth, we aquire their 3rd round pick

Free Agents:WR D.J. Hackett, FB Bryan Johnson, OT Travelle Wharton, LB Boss Bailey
All mid-level FA's, good quality signings without spending much money!!!

    2008 Draft:

Rd. 1.* (from Detroit) RB Jonathan Stewart (Ore.)
This guy is an absolute stud, he's got breakaway speed, is tough between the tackles, and has great one cut and go ability. He has good hands out of the backfield, he will be our franchise back for the next 7 or 8 years. While I wouldn't be displeased with Mendenhall or Jones, I prefer Stewart!

Rd. 2. LB Quentin Groves (Aub.)
I love this guy, he has great wheels, is a sure tackler, and a good blitzer off the edge. While I feel he will be a 1st round lock after he works out, if he is there at pick 43 there is no way we can pass up on him, he will be our SAM for the next 10 years!

Rd. 3.* (from Miami) WR Earl Bennett (Vand.)
With the loss of Javon Walker we fill the hole with the signing of Hackett and the drafting of Cutler's boy Bennett. This kid has average speed, good hands, and a great future as a possession Rod Smith type for us, will take time to develop, but well worth the wait!

    Rd. 4a. S DaJuan Morgan (N.C. State)
The playmaker we need at the Safety position, he will be better long term than Kenny Phillips and will come at a much cheaper price. He will have a year to develop and will be a starter as early as next year, great potential!

Rd. 4b. OT Duane Brown (VA Tech.)
Another Tackle to throw into the mix, he has good athleticism, good size and the frame to put on weight. I believe he can be a valuable back-up at both tackle spots, maybe a starter in 2 or 3 years. Will be just as good as Sam Baker or Chris Williams, except will be drafted 3 rounds lower!

Rd. 5a. LB Ben Moffit (S. Florida)
A project, he has potential on Special teams and could be groomed as DJ's replacement in the middle if he leaves via Free Agency after the season, I think Moffit would be a steal at this point!

Rd. 5b. DT Maurice Murray (New Mex. St.)
The best DT in this class that nobody knows, he's big, quick off the snap, and relentless. He is currently projected as a 7th rounder but he will move up and be good value in the 5th. He may contribute right away as a 4th tackle in our rotation, he could be a starter in 3 years!

Rd. 7a. DE Marcus Dixon (Hampton)
Depth at DE and a guy who has the size to line up inside on passing downs. A project who will take time, but at this point he's worth the investment!

Rd. 7b. FB Brandon McAnderson (Kansas)
After we let Sapp go, we will need a replacement and taking McAnderson will give us a versatile guy who can block, catch, and run. This guy is very underrated and deserves to be taken higher, but will fall and probably be the 3rd or 4th FB taken, a steal in the 7th round!

Undrafted Free Agents: WR Marcus Henry (Kansas)-I can't believe this guy will go undrafted but right now he is projected to do just that. G Kerry Brown (App. St.)-see Marcus Henry, we can never have enough O-Line depth. CB Jerrid Gaines (Mia. OH.)- A burner, he will take time but he has the speed and size to be a valuable back-up in a couple years. P Jimmie Kaylor (Colo. St.), P Ken DeBauche (Wisc.)- I don't feel we need to waste a draft pick on a Punter, these 2 with a veteran we can bring in can compete for the job, my money's on Kaylor. K Connor Barth (N.C.)- A big leg who can help on kick-offs, we need a guy that can boom it into the endzone every time, he may be the guy!

Your 2008 Denver Broncos (starters in bold)
    OFFENSE:
QB: Jay Cutler, Patrick Ramsey, Darrell Hackney, Preston Parsons
RB: Jonathan Stewart, Travis Henry, Selvin Young, Andre Hall
FB: Bryan Johnson, Paul Smith, Brandon McAnderson
WR: Brandon Marshall, D.J. Hackett, Brandon Stokley, Earl Bennett, Glenn Martinez, Marcus Henry
TE: Daniel Graham, Tony Scheffler, Chad Mustard, Mike Leach (LS)
    C: Tom Nalen, Chris Meyers
G: Ben Hamilton, Montrae Holland, Chris Kuper, P.J. Alexander, Kerry Brown
T: Travelle Wharton, Erik Pears, Ryan Harris, Duane Brown

    DEFENSE:
DT: Shaun Rogers, Marcus Thomas, Alvin McKinley, Antwan Burton, Maurice Murray
DE: Elvis Dumervil, Jarvis Moss, Ebeneezer Ekuban, Tim Crowder, Kenny Peterson, Marcus Dixon
MLB: D.J. Williams, Nate Webster, Ben Moffit
OLB: Jamie Winborn, Boss Bailey, Quentin Groves, Jordan Beck, Louis Green
CB: Champ Bailey, Dre' Bly, Adam "PacMan" Jones, Karl Paymah, Jeff Shoate, Jerrid Gaines
S: John Lynch, Sam Brandon, Hamza Abdullah, DaJuan Morgan, Corome Cox, Marviel Underwood
K: Jason Elam, Connor Barth, Brandon Pace
P: Jimmie Kaylor, Ken DeBauche, (Veteran)

There are 68 players on this roster, these are the guys I would invite to camp, then odviously cut it down to 53 throughout the preseason, but these are the main guys I would like to see in camp.

This is what I would do if I were GM and in charge of personnel, I believe we would be extremely deep at every position this way. I will welcome opinions, but please no Madden comments because this is very realistic!!!

I forgot to mention that our Punt returner would be Pac-Man
Our 2 Kick returners would be Andre Hall and Selvin Young!

This is very UN-realistic. To much value for Javon Walker and Dominique Foxworth. You couldn't even do that on madden. That is not including you having Earl Bennett is going in the 3rd...

I like how you picked in the first round when you said you would trade it for Rodgers. Hmmmm. And that would be the worst offseason I have seen. Not only is some of that unrealistic but come on. PACMAN??!! How long before he gets involved with something else and gets banned from the league? The best way to build a team is through the draft and you seem to be trading for verything. Oh yeah and give a 5th round LB one year and he can replace DJ? Forget it.
I will say I like the picks for Groves and Brown but thats about it.
And also if Walker leaves, we dont need a posession receiver like Bennett, we need speed. Marshall has it all and can be the posession guy and stretch the field just fine but he can't blaze by defenders. Thats the type of receiver we need to get if Walker is out.

Yeah, you're right, dropping 3 measly spots for a stud DT doesn't make any sense at all.
Man I don't know if I would give up a High character Gem like Javon for Pac-Man (the equivalent of a 4th round pick). For that cheap he is well worth the risk.
By the way there is no way that Bennett goes in the 2nd, he will be a 3rd rounder.
Hey I got an idea, let's stay at 12 and draft Kentwan Balmer, then in the 2nd we can reach for Eddie Royal, WOW, that would be a typical Shanahan draft, and people wonder why we have missed the play-offs the last 2 years!
I am seriously beginning to question the intelligence in here!!!

and you are still drafting in first. I was assuming you were trading walker for a pick or somthing but you are trading him for a high priced cancer.

Alteast you don't have Earl Bennett going in the fourth like you did....

Or another really awfull and unrealistic trade with Dallas... and getting two players in the first that will already be gone...

Or getting rid of a bunch of upcoming young talent for a late pick 2nd rounder.

or Getting killed on Cap on Henry trade... for a 6th rounder.

Retirees: LT Matt Lepsis, WR Rod Smith/ Farewell guys we love you and you will be missed!
Cuts: LB Ian Gold/ I love the guy but he has clearly lost a step, we need to get younger!
Resign: G Montrae Holland, DE John Engelberger, K Jason Elam
Tenders: G/C Chris Myers(2nd rd.), CB's Karl Paymah and Dominique Foxworth(2nd rds), S Hamza Abdullah(2nd and 4th rd.)
We can only hop that someone will give us a 2nd rd. pick for one these guys, probably a late 2nd rounder!
Trades: RB Travis Henry (6th rounder)
Trade WR Javon Walker and pick 12 plus a 4th rounder for Dallas's 2 1st rounders (22, and 29) I think if there is a plyer on the board that Dallas really wants they will be willing to do this, plus they give Romo another weapon in Walker, maybe unrealistic, but with TO, Crayton, and Walker, that offense could be even more deadly on 08'.
Call Jake Plummer and beg him to report to Tampa Bay (we get an additional 4th rounder if he does) I think he will!
Add these 3 key Free Agents: WR/KR Andre Davis, DT Corey Williams, and S Gibril Wilson
            2008 draft!
RD 1a. OT Sam Baker USC
            1b. RB Rashard Mendenhall ILL.
            2a. DT Pat Simms AUB.
2b. LB Xavier Adibi VA TECH.
            4a. WR Earl Bennett VAND.
            4b. LB Jasper Brinkley SC
            5a. S Courtney Greene Rutgers
            5b. C Doug Legursky Marshall
            6. P Durant Brooks GA. TECH
            7a. CB Chevis Jackson LSU
            7b. DE Trevor Scott Buff.
            Undrafted FA's: WR, O-line, S, and K
I think with all the depth in this draft we couldn't have enough draft picks, It's time to let all of the deadweight go and start a youth movement, what do yall think?

You need to learn how to measure what the value of players are.

Hey, he did draft Earl Bennett with the first pick in round 3, and it is possible he could slip that far.

Anyone wanna bet that Earl Bennett will NOT be a 2nd round pick?

Let me explain my trades to the uneducated. The Javon Walker for Pac-Man trade makes perfect sense. The Titans want to get rid of him and we need to get rid of that loser Walker. Tennessee desperately needs a WR and we will be more than happy to give them Javon. In return we get a troubled corner who CAN RETURN PUNTS, and be the best nickle guy in the league. If he gets in more trouble what do we lose Javon Walker, wow, that's not much!

The Shaun Rogers trade has already been discussed and very well could happen, common knowledge says we would have to throw in a late rounder, how about a conditional 5th or 6th rounder next year!

Before everyone slams on me they should know that the rankings are changing all the time and that other mock offseason you are refering to I posted like a month ago, man I'm just trying to have fun with this and while I want your opinions I don't appreciate the smart-elic comments that come with them, show a little respect!!!
