I think it is obvious that we are going to bring some defensive linemen this off-season. I expect 2-5 DT's and 2-3 DE's to come in and compete through free agency and the draft. Sound familiar? We brought in almost the entire Cleveland Browns defense 3 years ago and it got us to the AFC championship game. Then we had one bad year and scrapped the system and the majority of those linemen. Last year we brought in anybody we could find who could put an all you can eat buffet out of business and said we were committed to a new system. Then we tossed out the system after 5 weeks and it seemed we cut a linemen a week just for fun. I know bringing in new people up front is what this defense needs, but I sure hope we stick with this system and whom ever we bring in for a while. I'm tired of the turnover.

I agree, except I want 2 DTs and 1 DE.
John Lynch pointed out that we brought in 17 new guys on defense this year. That is ridiculous. These guys need to time to get in here, learn the system and be given to time to grow into their role. I hope that if Shanny learned anything this season it is quality over quantity.Comment

I agree but I do like there to be competition in camp too. Once they are on the roster, let them play but bring in quality, let them duke it out and give more than a year or two to blossom. And yes I would love to have Ellis. I think he will be the best defensive player from this draft in 4 years. He might not have the immediate impact we are hoping for but you never know. The question is, if we draft him will he get 4 years to really see what he can do or would he be in a new system every year or two.Comment

I think we should get a D-linman but also look at O-line (Ryan Clady) or fix our secondary (Kenny Phillips).

Glenn Dorsey is the best player in this draft and he will be the best d-linemen from this class for his whole career. This man is unblockable even when doubleteamed. He is way better than Sedrick Ellis. The only reason people have Ellis right up there with Dorsey is because Dorsey is a junior and didn't get to go to the senior bowl.Comment

Keep the bodies coming in...the best D-Lines can rotate bodies in different combinations...and Harvey/Okam would take us to another level in terms of talent.Comment

Just what we need. Two players that wont do anything to our defense for at least 1 maybe 2 years.
We have plenty of youth at DE, they just need to get more experience and playing time. Moss, Crowder, Thomas and Dumervil all have amazing potential and can all become Pro-Bowl players. They just need time to develop and we will see what they are really made of.
Harvey would just be another rookie that we would have to wait for due to the adjustment to the NFL game for d-linemen. Everybody is looking at how the Giants won the Super Bowl this year and wants to copy them but every single Super Bowl winner has won the game a different way. If Shanny is going to bring us back to Super Bowl contenders its not going to be a hard-core defensive team. He stated himself that he wants the same type of defense that we had when we won in '97 and '98. One that doesnt give up a lot of points and can make big plays but is never asked to win the game. We are an offensive team and always will be until Shanny is no longer the coach.
I agree that we need to fix the defense but there is no need what-so-ever to turn the team into something that it isnt. BPA/need is the way to go not reach/need!

For what it's worth, I still am absolutely convinced that Okam is a 1st Round talent. I'll never understand the criticism of him taking plays off. I've actually watched him play and have not seen anything close. Apparently, I'm just missing the games he does this.
His strength, intelligence, character, and production have all been top notch. Seriously, it's a mystery to me why he's not a 1st Round prospect. Something, somewhere has to give.Comment
