Definitely a good mock but I have to disagree with Steve Slaton and Ray Rice going in the 2nd but other than that it is a very good mock.

      Some comments:

      1 - Miami runs a 3-4, Dorsey doesn't fit the scheme
7 - NE needs a CB > LB, and they like vet LB's anyway
8 - Balt picked up a lot of young OL last time around, QB or CB here
9 - Balmer in the top 10 is terrible value
11 - Buffalo has their burner in Lee Evans, they need a big WR
14 - Chicago needs OT or QB before WR
15 - Detriot needs secondary & OL help bad... DL is a bit of a luxury
20 - Hard to believe the 1st QB would go at 20
22 - Felix Jones is the obvious pick here for Dallas (JJ is crazy)
27 - SD needs S (e.g Reggie Smith) more than CB

34 - I can't see the Rams passing on Baker given their OL needs
      53, 54, 60 - do these teams really need to burn a 2nd on a RB?
      62 - Slaton isn't worth a 2nd... 1 trick pony who won't thrive in the pros
63 - NE taking LB's with their first 2 picks? Not too likely

I like the 2nd a lot better than the 1st. Some of the first round picks seem a little dodgy until you see who the team took in the second... however, the actual draft doesn't really flow that way (teams generally grab what they need asap).

A lot of teams in the NFL go BPA in the first.

Stop it with the Mendenhall crap already. PLEASE.

It is a nice mock. You have Caldwell going very high IMO. And the Steelers picking up CJ is kind of crazy because they have the good version of him in Willie Parker already.

Not bad, but I'm still not sure if Kenny Phillips is a top 15 pick. Some people say he's deserving only of a 2nd round pick, some say first, who knows.

It's a very nice effort. I know first hand how much of a pain in the rump these things are to do.

I believe you left out some high end players, but I think you tabbed most of the guys in the right general area. It's pretty diverse from my 3 Round mock, so it will be interesting to see what shakes out after the Combine.

I do want to say thanks for doing one though. I love comparing!

Well, they *should* go BPA, but usually they don't. Consider last year's draft - most of the selections were directly addressing needs. The ones that weren't primarily need driven were:

Lions - WR Calvin Johnson (clearly BPA)
Redskins - S LaRon Landry (they value S highly, but needed pass rush)
Vikings - RB Adrian Peterson (clearly BPA)
Dolphins - WR/KR Ted Ginn, Jr. (what the hell were they thinking?)
49ers - LB Patrick Willis (49ers really liked this kid)
Packers - DT Justin Harrell (what the hell were they thinking?)
Cowboys - DE/LB Anthony Spencer (a bit of a luxury pick when they had Ware & Ellis already)
Saints - WR Robert Meachem (uh, defense?)
Colts - WR Anthony Gonzalez (uh, defense? part 2)

That's only 9 out of 32 picks, and really a lot of these were secondary needs (e.g. Saints lost Horn, Colts lost Stokley).

I don't expect anything to change this time around. The top end of the draft is very shallow, so expect teams to go for need since there isn't a whole lot of high-end value available.

Actually, it is not quite as insane as you think.

Colts lost Stokley, but Harrison is in his mid 30's and is pretty much year to year. So this was bpa, but also a pick where they very much drafted for years to come. This is the kind of thing you can do when you are a super bowl champion.

Saints, lost Horn and had only 1 "proven" performer at WR, and he had only been in the league for a year. Defense was also a need, but they put their run to the conference final together with good offense.

Cowboys, Ellis was on the outs. He wanted a new deal, the Cowboys didn't want to give it. Rumors were he would hold out. With Spears not performing as well in 3-4 as hoped they were very thin on the line.

Packers, they were in deed insane, DT was pretty far down their list.

49ers, had send off their best LB and had a very aging group of players in the middle. They needed any defenseman they could get and Willis was the best.

Dolphins, stupid pick, and not even bpa at the time.

Vikings, clearly went bpa. They signed a RB in FA the year before he put in a very good season.

Skins, did well. Their secondary was suspect, they needed someone to bail out their subpar cornerbacks. Though they did go BPA.

Lions, you just knew it was going to happen. If you pick WR in the 1st 4 times in 5 years you HAVE to hit the jackpot eventually.
