Broncos looking to improve depth at safety
    Wednesday, Feb 27, 2008 10:15 am EST

The Denver Broncos are thin at safety and will look to improve there in free agency according to the Denver Post.

Among the players Denver likely will consider are Gibril Wilson of the New York Giants, Madieu Williams of the Cincinnati Bengals and Marquand Manuel of the Carolina Panthers.

The Broncos remain in talks with veteran safety John Lynch.

I don't want Lynch to retire... and I think Hamzah can just sit on the sidelines.

But I would be pretty excited about any of these guys. I had my eye on the kid from cinci...but.. the others aren't that aweful.

lynch is slow and not playing at near the level he used to. gotta love the guy but this team needs to start playing its future starters while we still have a few holes instead of throw hamzah in when we are competing for a title/championship

I don't see hamzah as a starter. Lynch is still a force... hamzah is just a body.

We get the kid from cinci, then that just helps out Lynch that much more. He's obviously isn't as young as he once was, and isn't as fast as he once was, but he's still the better player. I personally feel hamzah is ok depth, and better work on his Special Teams play in order to keep a roster spot.

As of right now hamzah is a good player for depth. He could get good enough to be a starter (time will tell)

But I do want lynch back. I don't want him back because I think he will be able to offer a lot on field. I know his tank is getting empty. But his knowledge of his position is valuable and can offer a lot to fellow players.

well that is some good news we should have gotten another safety a couple of years ago so JOHN could be moulding the guy already....

                No doubt, like John Wendling.

I say we must at least re-sign Sam Brandon, as far as the free agents go I would rather take advantage of this deep class of Safeties and spend the FA money elsewhere, like LB and D-Line!!!

im curious if people who say stuff like this even follow the draft? on this message board ive read that this is a bad class for OTs, a great class for DTs, and now its deep on safeties?

                    I noticed the same thing!

It's NOT a particularly great class for DTs if no elite ones are available even at #12! Last year, the Titans took Omobe Okoye at #10 and he was the #1 DT and a future pro-bowler to boot, while in 2006, the Ravens got Haloti Ngata at #12.

I heard an interview on a San Diego radio station yesterday where J Lynch was asked if playing elsewhere next year is an option. He said yes. He was asked if the broncos are trying to get him to restucture his contract and he again said yes. Lynch has restructured his contract every year that he has been with the Broncos to help them out. I got the feeling in the interview that he is not willing to do it again this year.

He is due a large $1million plus roster bonus on March 4th. We will know soon enough.
