  • Trade for Robertson and Cinci off?????

PFT rumormill: Robertson deal falls through
For the second time since Friday, a deal that the Bengals thought they'd make to upgrade a subpar defense has fallen apart.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the trade between the Jets and the Bengals for New York defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson is off.

The sticking point was Cincy's insistence that Robertson re-do a contract that is set to pay him $9.8 million in 2008. Unless and until the Jets find a team for whom Robertson is willing to take a haircut, the likelihood is that Robertson eventually will be cut before a $3 million roster bonus comes due in June.

      YES!

A deal that would've sent Jets DT Dewayne Robertson to the Bengals in exchange for fourth- and fifth-round picks has reportedly been called off.
It's the second deal for a big interior tackle Cincinnati has missed out on. It's believed the trade hinged on Robertson agreeing to a long-term contract with the Bengals. The Jets will likely continue to shop the 26-year-old.

DEN should offer a 4th and pay the man his money!

Wait wait..... no. Did you read that? He's not willing to renegotiate out of the current contract he has. Which means he wants to keep the contract that will count 9.8 MILLLION against the cap. So Noooooooooooooo.

Robertson wants to hit the open Free Agency market. He wants to pick his team and on his terms, and I can't say I don't blame him. Right now, he's holding all the cards.

So No. Lets not trade for this guy.

Agreed...lol. The only shot he has of coming here is to sign a new deal, he is constantly one of the top defenders in stats, but still...no one should pay his arse nine million if they do not even know how he will transist with the team and scheme.

??? A potential pro-bowl 26 yr-old DT... aint worth the money... especially when we need a DT? OH... OK! SURE... let's go with Kenny Peterson.

ANYWAY... maybe he didn't like Cincy... Maybe he'll work out a deal here... IF NOT, then a trade to DEN could be called off... SO, why not take a shot... see if he'll restructure?

Cincinatti was unwilling to redo his deal. Yes he has a 10 million dollar cap number. But that money COULD have been given to him in bonus money that would not count directly against the cap this season. Bengals probably approached him about taking a pay cut and that was not happening. Broncos can rework his deal and give him that 10 million today.

Meaning that he gets a new deal that is more cap friendly to us and more wallet friendly to him.

How is he a potential pro bowler? he is as close to a bust as you come without being one outright. If he is a potential pro bowler then I the same can be said for every player in the league.

I don't think that anybody should get their hopes up on grabbing Robertson. Yes, it would definitely be nice to have his services but don't you think that if Shany really wanted this kid he would have outbid the Bengals in the first place? Just a thought

Almost 9 mil against the cap to sign this guy.........unless he's Reggie White reincarnated he is not worth that much money!!!

P.S. Yes I know Reggie White was a DE not a DT but just saying he would need to be the same caliber player as White was to be worth that much money

                        FOLKS...

Moss-Thomas-Robertson-Crowder could be the DL of the future! All young with loads of potential... Throw Elvis in there... Sprinlkle in Peterson and Mallard, along w/ Ekuban & Engelberger... We would be SET this year.

THUS, we could focus on other needs in the draft. Grab a RB/WR and a LB... That would be nice Day One picks...

We could work something out... be creative. This guy would be a stud... just what we need!

NO.. he's NOT WORTH THAT KIND OF MONEY!!!! BINGO. Randy Moss just made 7 million per year if that puts it into perspective for you. NOOOO..... He is NOT WORTH 10 Million against the cap. PERIOD.

Why do you think that Denver pullled themselves out of the trades with the jets for him? DO you think that maybe they found out from dealing that he wasn't willing to renegotiate his contract? Hello????

This guy was very good in the 4-3... At worst he would be a solid starter... AT BEST, he would be that disruptive force up the middle... Allowing ends to rush from the outside... Freeing up Thomas... Putting pressure on QBs...

Guy would be perfect... With the talent we have on defense... This guy would make a difference... he would stand out.

Nooo.. it was Robertson that was unwilling to renegotiate his contract.

Do you not think that the people IN THE BUSINESS of doing NFL contracts thought of the suggests you just brought up, or do you think they only play Madden football and you guys are thinking ABOVE their thought process??????

ROBERTSON is holding the cards here guys. He knows that if he doesn't renegotiate, the Jets will HAVE to cut him, and they will. Thus, he will be able to play the FA market with NOOOOO strings holding him. He can sign where he wants.
