  • New Broncos Free Agent/Trade Rumor - Dominique Foxworth

Restricted free agent DB Dominique Foxworth would reportedly be interested in playing for the Jets.

Coach Eric Mangini loves DBs that can play safety and corner, and he has starting experience at both spots. He's also only 24. Foxworth got the low tender. He'd cost the Jets a third-round pick if they sign him to an offer sheet.

    Two birds?

If the Jets are looking to bolster their cornerback position and get rid of Dewayne Robertson, they might be able to do both in one shot.

In an interview with Newsday's Alex Labidou, the agent for Domonique Foxworth of the Broncos says that his client would be interested in playing for the Jets. Foxworth is a restricted free agent with the Broncos, a team that is known to be in the market for a defensive lineman. Like, say, Robertson.

There aren't any current talks between the teams, Jim Ivler said, but it's possible that as Robertson's $3 million roster bonus deadline gets closer and Foxworth's frustration with his role in Denver increases, the teams could find a way to swap headaches.

Hmmmmm, this wouldn't be so bad.
But at the sametime, I think we should just take the draft pick and wait till the draft before trying to get Robertson.
Because if Dorsey or Ellis if off the board we have a back up plan.
More then likely Robertson as soon as he gets here would want a new contract.
So thats kinda a big risk there, I rather boost the line with a rookie instead.

I'd like the rookie and a trade. Imo the front office should consider doing as much as possible to strengthen both lines, present and for the future. Like when they traded for Bailey, brought in Lynch, and also drafted 3 db's. I think that has worked out well despite Darrent (RIP) not being here.

Robertson wouldn't want a new contract, we'd want a new contract. I'm sure he wouldn't mind keeping it at that 11 million he's scheduled to make this year. The only way a deal gets done with Robertson is if an agreement is made between him and the Broncos organization, so that he'll restructure.

As for the choice between a 3rd round pick and Robertson, there is no choice. The only offer being discussed is for the defensive tackle. If we haven't gotten offered a 3rd yet, odds are we're not going to get one. The only reason Robertson is a possibility is because they Jets aren't going to keep him, but they haven't been able to get anything worth their while. Since they've lowered their standards, Foxworth is a plausible option.

Personally, I'd be ecstatic if this deal went through. I want a rookie, too, sure. But a veteran would be great. Defensive tackle is our biggest need, so depth at the position certainly isn't a bad thing. Robertson may have some long-term risk, but if he can make it through the next year or two, hopefully the guy we draft is ready to take over, anyway.

The problem with waiting till after the draft, and using this as a "backup plan", is that the Jets may draft a cornerback instead--if they don't get Foxworth. Then they don't need his services and we're out of luck. Take the getting while the getting's good.

I don't think Robertson will re-work his contract. He holds all the cards here. If he doesn't redo his contract for anyone that trades for him, then the team trading for him won't accept it. Robertson wants to go UFA, and he's going to get that wish pretty quickly. He knows no one is going to take his 11 million dollar hit, and thus he doesn't have to 'redo' anything. Once the Jets release him, he can sign with anyone.

Would be nice to add him to the DT lineup though. ALthough, I don't see it happening with a trade.

            Agree 110%.

Id rather have a third than Robertson, who's proved nothing thus far. We could draft a better player than him on the first day, possibly using the wiggle room the third gives us to package picks to make a move in the draft.

Id love the Broncos to make this trade. We need starters on the defensive line. While Foxworth is a talented player he does not even start. Plus I like Paymah. He can make plays. His deal was he was the most raw of the three corners selected but arguably had the most upside-this is hearsay but i know ive heard this before.

Robertson at DT, then trade down pick up Devon Thomas or an OT and Pat Sims in the first two rounds and the Broncos would have a nice infusion of talent.

But if you use a 3rd round pick on him (which we don't have) by trading foxworth, then you dont' have to use your first two picks (the only in day one) on a DT... gives you more wiggle room,a nd the ability to move down, get more picks, and address other needs and depth. Also may give you the chance to take the bpa instead of drafting by need.

This is a reported "rumor". I wouldn't hold too much weight in it.

Most likely only started by the person posting it. Its one of those "hey, this team needs a DT, and this team has a player.... they should match up" type rumors.

I posted what was found on Rotoworld.com and then the link of the source of the rumor. Nice try though.

Chill dude. No one is accusing YOU. Relax... it wasn't an attack. It was stating it to be a rumor.. and in this case, I was referring to either the person on rotoworld, or the person that roto was using as a source. Calm down, take a deep breath, and don't feel everyone is attacking you.

Probably on of the smartest comments I've seen on these boards in quite sometime!

If we can get Robertson to re-do his contract, this will be a good move, we add a veteran who is still young and draft a guy in the 4th round!

I would much rather see this than us sell the farm for a guy like Dorsey (injury-risk) or Ellis (overrated in my mind)!

We need versatility going into the draft so Shanny isn't reaching on players all weekend!!!
