Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

The Jets aren't ruling out keeping Robertson and moving him to defensive end after a deal with the Broncos fell through last week, according to The Star-Ledger. Robertson, who has a $9.8 million base salary this season and a $3 million roster bonus due in June, would have to rework his contract. The Broncos and Lions are still interested

Hadn't heard/seen anything about this yet.
I haven't either... but they aren't going to keep him. No way. They have to get rid of him one way or the other. This appears to me, to be strictly a move to try and make 'value' to the trade. Apparently the Jets feel they are getting low-balled since its obvious Robertson is going to be released.
If Robertson isn't willing to budge on his contract situation, he's going to be cut.
And if Denver can't get him to budge, they should probably leave it alone, and wait for it to happen......
exactly. I think thats what might be happening. The Jets are wanting more, and the teams interested realize that they don't have to be giving away more than the minimum considering.
I also cant believe the Lions would be interested in getting Robertson when they just let go of their DT. That would make no sense whatsoever.

The Broncos have played this pretty well, imo, at one point I thought they should have given the Jets what the Bengals were apparently willing to give just so they could have improved the DT position.
I'm now convinced the Jets have to cut him, cause it doesn't look like they'll get anything unless Robertson is willing to renegotiate......

I would rather trade for him with that fourth and have him renegotiate rather than having someone else swoop in and take him. Once he's cut, he can sign with anyone... more money or not.
Honestly, if we want this kid we can let him hit the open market. If he'll restructure we should send a conditional 09 pick for him, as high as a 4th and as low as a 6th!!

Oh yeah! Absolutely.
Cause there is probably going to be some idiot team that is going to totally overpay him.
Denver might have to get into a bidding war, but if the amount paid stays reasonable, that could be a risk worth taking......
This is almost identical to the Javon situation, we wouldn't take a lowball offer after spending a 2nd on him so we just cut him and made all the other teams duke it out. Robertson probably won't be acquired in a trade, but if he gets cut we will have to worry about some of the big DT contracts given out already this offseason as well as other teams who might be interested. Also, just a random thought, but if another top 10 team picked him up perhaps that allows Sedric Ellis slide which would be a major blessing in disguise. That's purely hypothethical of course.
Sorry, you can not add yourself to your own ignore list.
Actually, the Denver Post reported that Robertson was in town to take a physical:
Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers may have been at the Pepsi Center watching the Nuggets play Sunday, but it was De- wayne Robertson who was in town taking a physical last week. Unlike Robertson, Peppers isn't available for trade.
Carolina general manager Marty Hurney was adamant while telling The Charlotte Observer that speculation connecting Peppers' appearance in Denver to a Peppers trade to the Broncos is unfounded.
Denver is trying to acquire Robertson, a defensive tackle, from the Jets. His troublesome knee is a hang-up, but he has missed only three games in five seasons, none since 2005.
Wide receiver Laveranues Coles and nose tackle Dewayne Robertson were no-shows Monday for the start of the Jets' offseason conditioning program at Hofstra, a team spokesman confirmed. In Robertson's case, it's yet another sign his days with the team are numbered.
The Jets have been trying to trade Robertson for nearly a month, and they are currently in discussions with the Broncos. Just yesterday, Denver acquired an extra sixth-round draft pick by trading offensive lineman Chris Myers to the Texans, and they could use that pick in a Robertson trade.
The Broncos are attempting to restructure Robertson's contract, which has two years and $18 million remaining. Robertson's agent, Hadley Engelhard, didn't return calls. GM Mike Tannenbaum said recently that he expected Robertson to participate in the program, claiming the Jets still have a role for him even though they traded for nose tackle Kris Jenkins, but that was widely viewed as posturing.
The nj.com Star Ledger is reporting that the Broncos are still interested in Dewayne Robertson which is old news by now. The Jets were strongly pursuing
Sapp, Shanahan talk; offer made

With no experienced fullback on his roster, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan personally spoke to Cecil Sapp in a phone conversation Monday.
A few hours later, the Broncos submitted their latest proposal to Sapp, a former Colorado State star who was their starting fullback last year. No deal was struck, but Sapp could soon be making his decision between the Broncos and three other teams.
"A positive conversation took place today between Cecil and Coach Shanahan," said David Canter, Sapp's agent. "Cecil hopes the Broncos will change their offer that will allow him to be where he wants to be, which is in Denver."
Easy on Peppers.

Footnotes.
By getting Houston's sixth-rounder for Chris Myers, the Broncos have nine picks in the upcoming draft. . . . Another day, another step closer to Matt Prater becoming only the second Broncos kicker since 1992. Free agent Jason Elam, the Broncos' kicker for the past 15 seasons, did not hear from the team Monday. He will visit Atlanta this week.
