  • Walterfootball.com has good mock draft

I kind of liked the first 3 picks of what Walterfootball.com mock draft had us taking:
Ryan Clady at 12, Kentawn Balmer at 42, and Earl Bennett at 104

    Ryan Clady:
The Broncos really need help everywhere on defense. Unfortunately, all of the top defensive players are off the board. In the wake of Matt Lepsis' retirement, Denver has Ryan Harris and Erik Pears at the two positions, which could really be hazardous to Jay Cutler's health, should either guy struggle in pass protection. I know Mike Shanahan seldom drafts offensive tackles in the first round, but with no worthy defensive prospects available here, he may have to "settle" for the No. 2 tackle prospect in this class.

As for any doubters of Clady's ability to play in the zone-blocking scheme, check out this quote from Clady himself:
"We were primarily a zone, I'm kinda like a Denver Broncos type offensive lineman, we cut a lot and position block and stuff like that."
Special thanks to e-mailer Chris Hansen for that quote.

One more thing to keep in mind - if Shanahan sees Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey drop past Kansas City, he may swap selections with the Ravens in an attempt to land one of the top two defensive tackles in this draft.

    Kentawn Balmer:
Denver was 30th against the run last year and desperately needs to acquire some talent at defensive tackle. Hopefully drafting Kentwan Balmer (yes, another steal in Round 2) is a step in the right direction to rebuilding one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Trade Possibility? It's no secret Jay Cutler is lobbying for Earl Bennett. In a recent workout, Cutler completed 22-of-22 attempts to his former wide out at Vanderbilt. However, it's a bit early to draft Bennett and the Broncos don't have a selection in the third round. If Shanahan wants to please his quarterback, he may decide to trade down to recoup the third-round selection he lost to the Vikings.

    Earl Bennett:
Talk about luck. Earlier, I mentioned the Broncos could trade down in the second round to recoup a third-rounder to use on Earl Bennett. Well, he ends up being available here because this draft class is so incredibly deep. In case you missed it, Jay Cutler, who played with Bennett at Vanderbilt, completed 22-of-22 passes in a recent workout with his old receiver. Think Cutler wants Bennett as a new No. 2 wide out?

    What do you guys think?

2/3 of the world is covered by water, the other 1/3 is covered by CHAMP BAILEY!

It's good. The 3 biggest needs are addressed with good value. Can't complain about it.

I wouldnt complain with that at all.
But will Clady drop all the way to 12???

Now that is a much better draft scenario than others I have seen where we take a 1st rnd WR, 2nd rd RB, and whatever else we needed earlier (OT, DT)after the third rd.

Prob will, since he only scored 13 on Wonderlic. I'd take Chris Williams in a heartbeat over RC, because at VU Williams played against much tougher SEC defenses than RC did at BSU, only allowed 1 sack last year, and scored an unbelievable 35 on Wonderlic (engineering major). He's our blindside protector of the future, folks.

But if CW is gone at 12 and RC is still there, yes, draft him, by all means. That is one of the better mock drafts Ive seen so far.

I think I could find a mock out there that has the players I like drafted by the Denver Broncos too.

I was just going to post a thread on this updated mock. Yes it's very good, especially for the Broncos.

In this mock, the Broncos have a choice of Chris Williams or Ryan Clady in the first round, and a choice of Kentwan Balmer or Trevor Laws in the second round. Then they get a backup OLB to plug in a Will.

All these picks would make me happy. I seriously doubt the draft could unfold as well for the Broncos as this though.

First, somehow I don't see the Ravens taking a QB. I see them grabbing either a DT or some other position player. They keep stockpiling on defense year after year.

On the other hand Bilick has been given the heave-ho in Baltimore, which opens up the question "who is the franchise QB," now that the infamous Kyle Boller experiment has had it's inevitable result (getting the coach fired).

There is currently no answer to that, but that doesn't mean the Ravens are sold on Ryan as their future franchise QB. Other people are reportedly not convinced.

I like the idea of trading up with Baltimore to get Glenn Dorsey. He's going to fall to the Bengals at #9 it now appears, so anybody who wants him would have to trade up to #8 at least. If (as this mock suggests), Baltimore wants a CB, they could trade down to #12 and still get a good one.

Whether Shanahan wants to give up picks to move up 4 spots is another question. The Broncos have needs all over the place and no 3rd round pick. If he can trade up into the 3rd round prior to the draft -- maybe. If not, then it's tough to move up because he'd have to give up his second round pick -- not something he'll want to consider.

Further complicating the move is that Sedrick Ellis is looking like he'll be gone, so it would be to get Glenn Dorsey -- whose injury history has him sliding out of the top 5.

Still to get an impact DT of Dorsey's ability you might have to take a risk. He'd be an instant starter at DT and will fill a huge hole.

I can't see Shanahan doing this though. He'll probably stand put and make me vomit with a pick like DeShaun Jackson.

I'm sure you could. Just make one up!
There are still a few have us taking Rivers as well.

Almost all of them have us taking either Williams or Clady...

I choose to believe you, because it will help calm me down and get me out of this state of depression that I fall into whenever I hear the words in my head "and with the 12th pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select . . . . California WR DeSean Jackson."

I don't think Ryan will drop.

I think it'll be Chris Williams.

                          Also from Vandy, aha
