... would you guys rather take DT or OT in the 2nd round? There is a lot of great depth at both positions, and it may be our last pick before the 4th round (maybe we will get a 3rd in the future).

DT.
We need another DT, one who can contribute at least something next season as part of the rotation. And there figures to be good value at DT when our 2nd round pick somes along.
No-brainer, IMO.
We should be able to get a nice OT prospect in Round 4 that we can develop into a good player in a year or two. I'm not sure any 4th round DT's have the same upside for us.Comment

WR in the 1st > RB in the 1st. It's the bigger need, it's just a question of whether there's good enough value there to spend the pick on. I don't know if there's a WR worth taking at #12, so hopefully we can trade down 1st, maybe recoup a 3rd round pick, and then draft James Hardy with our 1st selection.

For our system to work to its absolute best, we need a running game that can really cause problems for our opponents. Right now our RB corp is serviceable, but in no way fantastic by any means. With an elite talent like Mendenhall in there, we can really worry teams with our running game, which in turn opens up things for the Play-Action and bootleg style that has served us so well over the years, a style that Cutler seems to be at his best at also from what we've seen so far.
Marshall, Scheffler (who, with Graham at TE, is basically a WR for us anyway) and Stokely are three reliable sets of hands. We need a legit #2 WR for the future, unless Colbert miraculously pans out, and I look for us to grab one in the 4th. But it's not a 1st round need.
But without the top-notch running game our system needs, no amount of good WR's will help us. Our style of O-line is not built to just drop back and pass protect, we need a fierce running game.Comment

Perhaps, but I think a 1st round RB would do more for the offense than any WR we could take.

This coming year Denver will have both OL starters back as well as Daniel Graham healthy. Denver's ground game will be better than previous 2 years when the run game was in league top 10.
In the 5 games Nalen played last year (3 of which were playoff teams) Denver averaged 141.2 yds per game rushing.
That was with 1 missing OL add another missing OL and a Great Blocking TE later in the year as well as injured RB and that was why running game suffered.
Everyone is supposedly healthy now including THC, give them a chance and at least let them finish out of the top 10 in rushing b4 we claim the sky is falling and proclaim Denver has to draft a 1st round RB.
There is no way unless GOD has a sick sense of humor Denver suffers the same injury fate as last year on the OLine and to RB.

We'll be looking at as many 3 and outs next year as we did this year. Another problem with adding a 1st round RB is that the offensive line that looked horrible in pass protection and average in run blocking will remain the same. Drafting a franchise type T in the 1st round will pay dividends in the years to come as he protects Cutler's blind. Also maybe it was just me, but I wasn't happy with the play of our offensive line in general. They ahd trouble opening holes up in the running game and we were forced to keep the TE we paid a boat load of money in to block on obvious passing situations.
So I'm advocating for us to go after a T/WR in the 1st round, if we get an RB I willn't be mad if we address the other positions in the later rounds, but we need to get a DT in the 2nd round.sigpic

BUT the question wasn't what you guys think we should take in the first. It was "IF WE DID take a RB in the first, what would you like to have in the second?"
We have enough of the "lets take this guy in the first" threads.... let the guy have his own discussion in his thread.
If we go offense in the 1st round, than I think we MUST go DT in the second.Comment

Denver was without 1 OL starter for the whole year and another OL starter for 11 games. During the 5 games Tom Nalen played Denver tore it up on the ground.

And given that both Henry and Young are considered very injury prone, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to imagine we'll see our RB corp depleted again similiarly next year.
Gotta be OT or, if the coaches are completely sold on Harris as LT for the future, else Mendenhall at #12 for me.
If we trade back significantly and pick up another 2nd rounder, then WR in the first is an option as we can then pick up an OT and a DT in the 2nd.Comment
