Who's Better.... Vernon Gholston or Chris Long?

I vote Gholston for his speed, agility, and his quickness on putting pressure on the QB constantly! Im not saying Chris long is bad, Im just saying to me I think Gholston is more beastly than chris....

    What do you think?
"I don't want people to look at me just as a return man because I'm a lot more than that and I plan to show that to people." - Eddie Royal

"I talked to coach Shanahan personally, and he was telling me we had some players around that weren't willing to work for success and now those players are gone and they're bringing in players who are willing to work. I'm one of them." - Boss Bailey

I'll chime in since we are the team that will be choosing between the 2...

CLong is better right now IMO. More polished, better techinque, and better instincts and understanding of the game.

However, Gholston's upside is undeniable. The guy is a freak. From a physical standpoint... Gholston is better...

Gholston has the most upside in the draft, but CLong is the safer pick...

    I got my board as:

    1a. CLong
    1b. JLong
    2. Gholston

      Give me Chris Long please.

I will take game day "beastliness" over work out "beastliness" any day.

        Gholston has "game day beastliness".

It depends on what you need and what your scheme is. I'm not sold on Chris Long as a 3-4 OLB. He would be a good DE in either the 3-4 or 4-3 though. I like Gholston as a 3-4 OLB.

            Dont believe me?

            Gholston
Saw bits and pieces of the Youngstown State and Illinois game, relatively nonexistent in the LSU game.

Chris Long Saw the Virginia Tech game and part of the Maryland game.

He impressed me MUCH more than Gholston, despite the amount of time I managed to see.

You could say he is inconsistent, but he was a beast against Michigan last season, where he had 3 sacks, one of them going against Jake Long as I remember. He also broke the Ohio State school record for sacks in a season with 14 (previously held by Mike Vrabel with 13).

                  It's day to day.

Some days he decides to show up and play up to his talent.

Some days you won't see him at all.

Chris Long is too small to play 3-4 DE. At only 6'3, he would be undersized...

Plus, using the #1 pick on a 2-gap D-Lineman would be a waste, b/c its a position where their job is to tie up blockers, and the position is not an "impact" type of position.

I definitely am sold on him as a 3-4 OLB. He is very fluid. More fluid than Gholston...

Oh, you are talking about consistancy...

I would agree then. He does need to be more consistant.

However, I completely disagree with you about the LSU game. LSU's game plan was very good, designing their plays to go away from Gholston most of the game.

Gholston absolutly abused LSU's RT when coming off the strong side. He put an outside move on him, went inside on him, and bull rushed and went through him.

Gholston definitely did better that game when standing up though. He wasnt as impressive when his hand was on the ground.

I should have elaborated, but did not.

To me, you're only as good as how consistent you are. Production is key, but if you can't do that on a day to day basis......I could care less.

Gholston is good, don't get me wrong, but I remember talk about Long being the best DE in this draft for awhile now (before the season ended) and just now this talk (since the combine) about Gholston being top 10 has started

Well it really started when Gholston took Jake Long to the shed this year in the Big House.

I like both DE and I think both are safe and solid picks.

Gholston was always in the top 10...

His workouts have moved him into the top 5...

He isnt that inconsistant... just not as consistant as players like Long and Dorsey...

Vernon Gholston is better. And if it weren't for Miami having no OTs, they'd be taking Lawrence Taylor Jr., #1 Overall.
