  • Well Since we got Robertson.... Does Our Draft Change?

Honestly, I think it just changes our second pick and below.... But you never know what shanny will do. He could take a playmaking RB in the first and an awesome OT in the second.... Or OT in the first and RB in the second. Really it doesn't matter to me, I love the clady and rice tandem, on I would also love the Mendenhall (or stewart) and gosder cherilus tandem (if he falls, which more than likely wont happen). Idk, Im starting to think we should take a RB in the first, it takes pressure off of our two playmaking offensive players, Cutler and Marshall. Once the pressure has dispersed, Gosder (if he's there) will take even more pressure off of cutler's blindside. Personally, I think If we go RB in the first, I would take Mendenhall, I Definitely wouldn't mine Stewart, It's just im afraid of his injury problems, he could be injury prone... But You never know!

That's just my opinion, But What do you think?

Will we go RB in first or OT? Will we trade down? Which is better Mendenhall or Stewart?
"I don't want people to look at me just as a return man because I'm a lot more than that and I plan to show that to people." - Eddie Royal

"I talked to coach Shanahan personally, and he was telling me we had some players around that weren't willing to work for success and now those players are gone and they're bringing in players who are willing to work. I'm one of them." - Boss Bailey

i agree. with some of the pressure off of needing to fix the D-line, i definitely see us going RB then OT, even if we have to trade up a bit from our second pick to get a guy Shanny wants. i have read it in the tea leaves...

I think the only draft impact is that we don't have to take multiple DTs now. Specifically, we still have to take a DT in the first 4 rounds of the draft as we need starting potential to develop. But we don't need to burn a late round pick on a 2nd DT.

So, the impact is minimal. Robertson alone is not enough to fix our DT woes, but he does help alot.

            Keep goin...

I say keep going and move up to draft Ellis. Solve the problem here and now. Hopefully, the Broncos won't be this low in the draft for several years and won't have the chance to grab an impact player at any position. That has been a stated problem for several years. The D Line still needs depth and with Ronertson's possible injury problem extra talent may be needed. The OT problem can be addressed in later rounds, as usual.

My guess is Shanny felt that there wouldn't be any DT worth drafting at #12 or #42 and the delay could have been him trying to move up to get Ellis but the cost was too high.

Shanny's trade for Walker was approached the same way...crappy WR class go after a high risk/reward player a team is dumping.

This draft really is piss poor on DTs, so Shanny went for the quick fix. Dre Moore IMO is a third round DT that is rising based on workouts alone. Sims looks like he will need to add some upper body strength, so he could take a couple years to break in as a starter. Laws is decent but a bit undersized, but could fit in well here. Marcus Harrison is may be the third best DT in this class and has major character concerns.

I don't think it changes our draft too much, I believe Shanny didn't see a DT standout in round two (or if he did was doubtful he would last anyways). I think Shanny will take a couple flyers in the later rounds to provide competition/practice squad players in hopes he can develop one (just like Marshall & Hixon after we got Walker). If not DT will be a high priority again next year.

              R Ayers - B Cofield - A Haynesworth - CJ ohnson
              J Anderson - J Beason - DJ Williams
              R Bailey - P Amukamara - R Hill - A Goodman

I really think it depends what Shanahan and the medical staff know about the knee, not everything will be made public, and yeh people can go on about how he's started like the last 23,000 games LOL, but that knee could be on its last leg (pardon the pun!) or atleast D-Rob could perhaps miss 8-games and Shanahan could think "well thats the risk we took".....

My gut feeling tells me the knee is an definite issue of concern and if the gaurentee is that he will get 4 million most by signing (think i read it on Denver Post?), i think thats a pretty big signal, together with the a conditional 2009 pick, that D-Rob is almost a throwaway signing, that may be canned before a pre-season starts, OR might just be a great bargain (i am sure the 4 mill will only be gaurenteed if he makes final roster?)

Therefore, i highly doubt it will affect Shanahan's draft plans by signing him

Hopefully we still draft a DT day 1.

Balmer round 1, Sam Baker round 2

With Robertson in the mix, I think it actually does change our aproach to the draft quite a bit.

Instead of a DT in the 2nd, I think we grab one in the 4th.

In the first we will go either RB or OT...with the other one picked in the 2nd.

                      Here is my dream scenario...

                      1. Mendenhall or Stewart (Either one will do)
                      2. Cherilus or Baker at OT (One should still be avail...)

Then in the 4th we should look at S and DT.

Hopefully we can then nab Durant Brooks at some point, even a 4th might be worth it.

I would love a trade down in the 1st with Houston for their 3rd and pick up Chris Williams. In the 2nd pick up Reggie Smith and in the 3rd pick up Marcus Harrsion. We address the OT, add CB/S depth and a young talented DT. Then we can pick up a WR/KR specialist in the 4th as well as an interior offensive lineman and address all our glaring needs with 3 rounds and 5 picks to spare.

while i am a fan of the robertson signing, he is a huge question mark. he could turn out to be the next courtney brown, or he could be what he was hyped up to be, who knows. i think we need to provide ourselves with some insurance at DT at some point in the draft. trading up to get ellis would accomplish this, or i would use 2 of our later round picks on DTs.

now for our 1st round selection: i think that drafting an OT would be a great idea, it is a HUGE need and we need to protect cutlers blindside. but, is anyone REALLY sold on a LB core consisting of DJ on the weakside, Niko in the middle, and boss on the strongside?? I am not, and for that reason, I think that we look to select a linebacker, preferably a MLB with our 1st round selection. I'm not a big college football guy so i'm going strictly by prospect rankings, but I say we should trade back in the first and draft Jerod Mayo from Tennessee to play the middle.

As much as I like Mendenhall, we have too many other issues to be drafting him at #12 overall.

                          Thoughts?

                            Just a thought

                            Heres something that could happen.

Because we will likely pass on DT in the 2nd it isnt as vital that we stay near the top of the 2nd round.

Take Mendenhal in the first if Clady and Albert dont fall then we will most likely get an offer from a team that wants our 2nd with the amount of high quality players whose stock has dropped. We trade back to the later part of the 2nd and pick up a 3rd. Then we take a guy like Duane Brown who will fit well in our system.

I think this all but guarantees that we are going to draft J. Stewart with our 1st round pick. 2nd round I believe we go o-line or d tackle.
