  • 2009 Picks?

I was just wondering, have we gained or traded away any of next years picks?

    Thanks

We could possibly lose a 3rd or 4th rounder in the 09 draft depending on the amount of snaps Dewayne Robertson plays this year (75% I believe). But the way we rotate our DLine, the coaches will keep track and not surpass this amount IMO.

Just trying to help, so.....*Don't quote me on these numbers* lol.

Everybody seems pretty confident he won't play 65% of the time and we get to keep our 3rd rounder.

I'd like some reassurance though, if he's our top DT then even with the rotation you want him out there a lot.

I hear that last year Dumerville took 70% of def snaps and more than any other Defensive lineman. http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_9062729
That would seem to indicate that we would keep Robertson under 65% this year without a whole lot of trouble, but we had lots of DEs and we we're switching DTs through the season. Last year was a year of very high rotation, there may very well be considerably less this year, especially at the DT position.

Looking just at our DT position: Robertson, Thomas, Mckinley,Powell, Mallard,Harris.

Mckinley has a lot of experience and Mallard made some big plays last year, but really, I see us wanting to play Robertson and Thomas 75% of the snaps.

Our DEs aren't really 'tweeners' either. Assuming Robertson stays healthy, I think at the very least its giong to be close and the coaches might be watching it to keep him under the 65 percent. I would like to say though, if he does play over 65%, it means he was worth the 3rd rounder, itd be nice to save it, but hey, if he costs something he costs something, he should be worth it.

We need Robertson out there. Giving up a 3rd round pick is a small price to pay to have a potential difference-maker out there as much as possible. So it's a good thing if he plays more than 65% of the snaps, because that would indicate that he is a rock on the line, both in terms of impact and stamina. Besides, this year's draft looks great to me, and they did it without a 3rd round pick.

            One would assume that ...

... DeWayne and Marcus will start at DTs as 2/3 techs. I expect to see a lot of Carlton Powell. How many DTs will the Broncos keep? Four? Five? The remaining spot(s) will be up for grabs between McKinley, Harris, Peterson and Mallard, who needs to prove that he is more than a 3rd & long pass rushing DT (he was a DE at Georgia).
