  • Rebuilding year 3.

    Shanahan started rebuilding in 06.
06..........Cutler,Marshal, Scheffler.Pears, 3 potential all Pros and a solid Tackle.
07..........Kuper, Moss,Crowder,Harris,Thomas all solid linemen, lots of potential.
08..........Clady(the best tackle since Ogden)Royal, Lichtenstieger, Torain, Powell, Barrett, Hillis, Larsen, all solid with HUGE UP SIDE.
    Cfa Erickson and Woodyard.
Who says Shanahan can't draft, in 3 years he's rebuilt the backfield, Both lines, wr's and Safeties and MLB and he's stayed competitive. No 2 win seasons. Need to keep it going for depth next year. We'll be set for a long time.

Shanny has done a good job keeping this team from starting from scratch. I would be a miserable person if we were in the Chiefs situation no hope for at least 5 seasons. I think we are 1 more good draft and 1 more free agency period away from being contenders again.

I believe we have a shot at taking a run at a wildcard this year, but next year, I bet we're all over the division.

        An argument about rebuilding

I agree with the comments about the good draft, the 06 draft being absolutely stellar, But I don't think we ever 'started rebuilding'. Do we think that after the AFC Championship game the coaches were thinking, 'Hey time to rebuild'? Nah, they did decided that they needed a new QB to really go where they wanted to go, which puts you in a transition phase, which admittedly isn't all that different from rebuilding.

But lets continue on throught the 06 Draft, Scheffler, Marshall,Pears, none of these players were selected as 'rebulding' players, they were just simply the guys we wanted. They weren't targetted to replace key players in the lineup, they were just players we wanted to have. Rebuilding drafts typically mean more picks.

07 comes around, lines aren't doing so well and oline is getting older, so we draft lineman. Are we thinking rebuilding the Defensive line that year, sure. But so far all we have through 06 and 07 is rebuilding the defensive line and some other spot improvements. And all these drafts have been small in the number of players we've taking.

08, mostly this is a draft so that we can replace veterans in the next couple of years, and also a 'who has the most potential' draft.

So I'm going to argue that none of these drafts qualify as rebuilding drafts, have we done that, sure somewhat we have had that turnover. But really we never started rebuilding, and most of the rebuilding we did do was through FA and not the draft, We didn't walk away from the AFC championship game with rebuilding in mind, we just didnt do that well for a couple of years.

          Pete Carroll says it best..

...you never want to rebuild, so you have be do a great job of "reloading", every year. This is how he has built his dynasty at USC. Every year they have the top players in the country, talent wise.

Im not really a big USC fan, but I respect Carroll as a coach. Every year around draft time, there always seem to be at least four or five of his guys that everyone knows will go on the first day of the draft. Thats unbelievable. I am going to watch as many of their games as possible this year because I think they have elite players at positions of need that we may end up drafting next year.
09-17-08: OFFICIALLY BACKING JARVIS MOSS TO TURN INTO ONE HELL OF A DEFENSIVE END WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS.-we are all allowed one mistake, right?

Loved McD 's first full FA. Can't wait to see the draft.

          2010 Draft WISHlist:

Any center since we don't have one.

in 2009 it will be mostly these positions that will be looked at

DT = Robinson with his knee may only have a few years left its best to pick one up and with so many top DT's coming out in 2009 it would be workable to pick up one in the first 2 rounds

SS = who knows if our Safety core will be able to stay consistent but with the best SS class to come out in 2009 it would be hard to pass up

OG = we need a new OG and hopefully a OG will present itself.

                Depth at LB

Our RB core will have to suffer through the 2009 season with what we have right now, once the 2010 season rolls around look for shanny to pull the trigger for an RB as thats all he needs to draft for top talent.
McDaniles Career as a failure of a Head Coach is being fulfilled. Termination of McFailure has happen.

Rejoice Bronco Fans we have taken our team back, but at a heavy cost.

Seriously, Denver's 4th round picks in the '06 draft were the biggest pieces of the Broncos "rebuilding" puzzle in my opinion. B.Marsh has pretty much grown into an elite wideout and DOOM was the entire Broncos pass rush last year. I'd take that kind of production from an entire draft class, and Denver did it in the 4th round alone. I wish the Broncos would just draft only on the second day from now on.

I would have to say that until Niko, Larsen, Beck or some other LB we have proves he is a quality starting MLB, that will be our first pick of next year. I am hoping for Rey M out of USC or James L from OSU! We also need a young quality CB. I think those are our 2 main priorities in next years draft. We have young DT and G so I don't think that will be a top priority. SS you are prob right about.

an OG is a need because how many years does Ben have left. I mean hell we had Harris to replace Lepsis and we still drafted an LT. So what makes you say OG in the 1st round wont be an option.

Also Robinson with his knee we will still need some insurance in the years to come.

Plus our Safety core as unproven and with TOP talent at the SS core it would be hard to pass a player up.

i agree somewhat safety, DT and LB will be top needs next year, guard not so much. we have gandy who is good depth we have licht who will contribute in the near future, kuper can still play guard if needed, holland is good, and ben if he looks good this year probally has another 2 years in him. if he looks bad then your right guard would probally be looked at quickly next year.

and your also right with regards to robinson resting our DT future on him is risky regardless of how talented he may be simply because of how long his knee can hold up

Like this post said, we are young at G with Gandy, Kory, Holland, and Kuper. If we picked an OL guy in the top two it would be a right tackle. Holland and Kuper are both playing solid football. If for some reason Hamilton leaves they would move Kuper there than we need to fill the RT spot unless Harris or Pears makes serious improvements. So guard is a need it's just that we have more pressing needs at the moment. For all we know at this point we will need a RB too. The ones we have look good now but preseason hasn't even started yet and we have no idea if they will be any good for a whole season. Dre Bly will 31 or 32 at the end of the season and his replacement should be coming soon as well. Paymah or Williams may be the guy but once again we don't know that yet. I think if Paymah were the guy, he would be out there already. Williams is untested so until they are I think CB is a higher priority than G
