  • We need a TE all of a sudden

Going in to the offseason TE looked like one of our deepest positions that we certainly didnt need but Scheffler is hurt, Mustard is out 8-10 weeks and Graham and Jackson are coming off injuries from last year. I hope Mike Leach can catch not just snap the ball. I think we may need to add somebody for insurance.

You won't get far with knowledge like that around here.

Most Denver fans don't believe in depth. They wanna trade that depth away for draft picks or young "players of potential" at key positions.

    Stop making so much sense.

Scheffler hurt himself last year and he still had a good season. Mustard will be back for the regular season if we keep him. Graham will be fine. I think it's the end of the road for Jackson though. He's always being bothered by some injury and he hardly does anything on the field.

maybe shanny can convert hillis into a tight end just for his rookie year so we dont have to dump so many backs before camp......i know im talkin' crazy again

Graham is fine, not quite sure how Scheffler's injury is sounding, and yeah we'll have have some practice squad players to pull in if necessary. Even if the injuries got worse, a TE isn't a hard position to compensate for.

No its not, especially when you consider that there are a small handfull of "elite" guys then the rest are pretty close to interchangeable for the most part. Finding that "elite" one woul dbe great.

i really dont think we need to worry right now, some of you posters think that we need to have good backups, well the fact is that isnt going to hapen. because then they wouldnt be backups.

if somebody goes down you need to expect people to step up and try to cover for them, thinking they should be just as good is pretty ignorant and if it happens its very lucky.

wait to see, scheff just needs some rest hopefully and mustard only pulled his hammy i think, even still he never really saw the field much. it should be a pretty easy situation if one of them cant go

You can have Matt Schobel. All it will cost you is a bag of donuts.

Everyone is so doom & gloom over the injuries from passing camp. Guys - these weren't ACL tears or anything. Give them some time to rest, the preseason doesn't even start for another few months.

Sheffler is still hurt from last year, that is a concern, Jackson seems to never be healthy as someone already said, and Mustard was suppose to be a tackle but we had to move him to TE last year in a pinch because of injuries. That could leave Graham Leach and some guy named Brett Pierce from Stanford who I know nothing about, maybe he can play. Leach obviously is not a TE that we will actually use at that position or we wouldn't have moved Mustard there, we would have used Leach. I don't think some of you are giving the position enough credit when you say it's easy to replace them. Here is a quote from the Rocky Mountain News after we got our butts handed to us by San Diego on Christmas eve last year.

"Ever the coach, Shanahan retreated to coach-speak. The problem was the Broncos couldn't run the ball. They couldn't run the ball because tight end Daniel Graham was forced out of the game with his injured left ankle. The solution is more depth at that position."

Here is the link for the article.

This is the link to the post game press conference where Shanahan talks about the importance of the TE position in the running game and the lack of players at the position.

I think we may look at bringing somebody in based on this. It's more important than we might think.

Sheffler should be OK by even training camp. Mustard, well, we'll see. Jackson is healthy and will be a decent 3rd option as long as he stays healthy, and Graham is OK. It would be nice to have maybe one more decent guy behind them for depth, but not totally necessary. We'll be fine with Sheffler, Graham, Jackson and Mustard for now.

                              Tight End

Mustard's hamstring was torn with surgry required; out 8-10 weeks. He's a blocker.

Jackson is more of a receiver.

I think Scheffler may have injured himself last year bulking up to be a better blocker which he could become.

Brett Pierce was a good blocker at Stanford. If Mustard doesn't return, he might have a shot at a roster spot.

The Broncos should probably draft a TE next year.

Hillis might play some H-Back if he makes the team.
