  • Rudi Johnson / Denver rumored as possibility (Merged)

Sorry if this had been posted but why would we need Rudi Johnson?

ESPN's John Clayton reports the Denver Broncos could be a possible landing spot for free-agent RB Rudi Johnson (Bengals).
Hillis will be the best full back in the league by the end of the year!!!!!!!!!

the only thing i could think of is a good goal-line back until Torain comes back?

...or as a change of pace back to Selvin Young?

let's hope it's just speculation and he doesn't have actual, true knowledge about this subject.

John clayton may be a idiot but he does not make things up. I think pitman would be a better goalline back. I still think hillis is going to get a crapload of goal line carries

If he could be signed for a low amount, especially if its the vet minimum, I would be ok with swapping him in for Pittman. Pittman is much more versatile, but he doesn't impress me at all running the ball. Johnson was overrated, and now he is mediocre and still declining. I wouldn't want him coming in over Young or Hall, or Torain once he is healthy

i think it is something we are looking at until Torain comes back we only have 3 RB right now. Hall,Young,Pitman, adding Rudi gives us a little Depth until Torain comes back.. Also gives a proven Running back incase someone gets hurt.. He is the best RB free agent avalibale right now--if you can get him cheap i think it is a great move!

I wonder if Clayton is saying that because he thinks it's a logical choice or because he actually has some inside info that something is being talked about behind the scenes...

Thats what I was wondering. Clayton isn't one to throw out 'facts' without having something concrete from a solid source. But he also is one that would make a remark as to a logical place for a player to go.

So I'm wondering the context of him saying this.

Rudi Johnson just isn't what he used to be.

He's almost 29, and clearly he has peaked. His 2.9 YPC before his injury isn't going to cut it.

i would really love it if johnson came to denver if it on a low salary. maybe i'm gonna get bashed for it, but i think that rudi is better then any of our backs right now outside of torain

Rudi Johnsons agent is Peter Shaffer, a denver based agent that has a number of current and former Broncos under contract. I would assume that would be the major tie between Denver and Rudi and the interest in which Clayton speaks of.

I heard Clayton mention that Denver has a stable of undrafted RB's as one of the reasons the Broncos might be interested.

I hope you are joking with this post considering the other threads we have heard and read about Pittman.

NEVER take the ypc stat as something to go by. Rudi wouldn't be brought in to be a full-time staring RB. He would be brought in to compete for Pittman's role.

I sure hope he wouldn't be brought in as a full time starting RB. That's what I was getting at. I was just thinking that Shanahan knew that Rudi had the body to be a 20-25 carry type back, that he just might give it to him....

                            Eh, probably not though...

I know Bengal fans have complained that Rudi just couldn't get to that second level like he used too... thus, his average is pretty poor. If he's cheap, I could really care less.... but I don't want him being a #1.

I think, if he were to be brought in at all,.... it would be to compete for Pittman's job/role. Not the starting one. Rudi is a big back, and if he isn't thought to be durable, that role would fit perfect for him.
