  • Late Round MLB

A lot of talk has been made about the first round MLB/ILBs. I doubt we take one of these as we have much greater needs. Could be wrong, but for the sake of discussion...

What do you guys think about mid/late round MLB/ILBs and CFAs like...
    Dave Philistin Maryland
    Daniel Holtzclaw E.Michigan
    Scott McKillop Pittsburgh
    --------------
    Worrell Williams CAL
    Ronnie Palmer Arizona
    Josh Mauga Nevada
    --------------
    Mike Rivera Kansas
    Brock Christopher Missouri
    Jeff Horinek CSU
    Joe Mortensen Kansas

...And do you have any others?

I'm on the Worrell Williams Bandwagon. He's got the size to play MLB but he's also fairly athletic. We need a bigger body at LB who wont just get completely run over by every power RB. Williams is 6'2 250. Plus he's DJ's bro so thats like the cherry on top for me.

holtzclaw and mckillop should be starters from day 1 by the team that drafts them, unless they are competing against a pro bowler.

Dj's brother and ronnie palmer should be instant contributors in the mold of wesely woodyard....

Clint Sintim might be able to play MIKE in the NFL even though he is playing
        strong side right now.

Absolutely, I have been calling for him for a while now. He would be a good player as a MLB or as a 3-4 OLB if they decide to switch to that in the offseason. I also like Mckillop quite a bit but agree with the poster that it would be better to have bigger bodies there but Mckillop plays very smart and gets off blocks great. 1 Or both of these players would be my choice for LB in the draft.

Thanks for the responses. This brings up the underlying question:

Do we go in the 1st or 2nd round, or the 3rd or 4th round for an acceptable starter like Holtz or McK, or the 5th or 6th round for a back-up/project like Worrell or Ronnie at MLB?

Go MLB 1st or 2nd round, unless Larsen gets a chance to play and plays like Brian Urlacher.

If I had to wait until the mid-rounds, Tray Blackmon from Auburn would be my choice. But I hope it doesn't come to that. MLB is unquestionably one of the top 2 or 3 needs in my mind.

We know. And of course you would pick Brandon Spikes, even if we had the Number 1 overall pick.

Um, no? How about you contribute something meaningful to the thread instead of snide comments? I expect more from such a distinguished scout and coach such as yourself, D.J.55. I'm disappointed.

Max, I couldn't agree more! I've been on the MLB trail for some time. I think some folks are missing the value of a stud middle guy, who can cover most of the field, hit like a tank, run with urgency, and manage the whole D. That takes talent and vision, and one of those types is hard to find, and will pay overnight dividends.

You guys have no love for South Carolina's MLB Jasper Brinkley? He is the leader of the best D in the SEC how could you not want him.

                        He is a beast at 6'02" 257 4.58:40

Brinkley would have been a late 1st early 2nd round pick last year but hurt his knee and decided stay in school to heal up before coming out this year.

We need a Safety in the 1st unless Mays and Moore are off the board then we need to go with Spikes or Laurinaitis if one of them are still around.

Dont try and play that crap. I could care less that you are dissappointed. Im just tried of hearing how great Spikes when all you do is watch highlights, and a couple games as a causal fan. Once you start learning how coaches and scout thinks, maybe then you best realize that Spikes would better off staying in school. All the things he does wrong he can get away in college but in the NFL those thing will magnified.

i think we could take MLB second or third rd, and be well set, leaving safety, OLB or RB for the 1st rd

It's called sarcasm buddy. I've watched more than a couple of games and highlights. You have your opinion, and that's fine, but don't lambast me for mine, and if you can't reply with any substance in a respectful manner, then don't bother replying at all.
