  • Thoughts on Trading Down?

I have heard a lot of people express the sentiment to trade down from wherever we pick to pick up a few more draft picks.

At this point, I'm on the fence about trading back. I know that more picks are better, but we already have stockpiled quite a few late round picks and that signals to me that we will be more willing to trade up a few spots on draft day to ensure we get our guy.

Do I agree with this strategy? No. Why? His name is Jarvis Moss.

But the past is past, ah well.

I could see us trading back and maybe picking up future picks, thats how the Patriots aquire so many 1st rounders.

I believe as of now we have around 9 picks in this upcoming draft? Another draft like 2008, and we could be looking real strong. Remember in 2008's draft, we didnt trade up or down on draft day and it worked out pretty well.

Really hard to say until after the season and see where Denver drafts. If theyre in the mid teens I could see a trade up or trade down strategy. If it is late twenties early thirties then ya I'd be all for trading down. But remember always takes two to tango.

Trying to guess whether or not we should trade down in the draft is very subjective. It depends on who is available, and whether or not who we want would still be available if we traded down.

Those kind of decisions really can't be made until draft day, and sometimes not until your next on the clock.

Even though we really dont know it's hard to say at this point and time until we see the combine and get a better sense of what the players draft value is,where will the Broncos be drafting at and who will be projected available around that pick...

I dont like mocks that involve trade scenarios ... I have no problem with trading up and down in the draft it just depends on for whom, what and who was still availble....At this time I would not want the Broncos to jump up into top 12 for any one certain player because I believe some other 1st round prospects at the same position can be as good if not better...

I would vote to trade down if we could get an extra second round pick for it, however it all depends on where we pick like others have said. If we are in the mid teens I think trading down could get us a good player as the extra pick. If we picking in the mid twenties, just use the pick. The only reason I saw trade down is I want 3 players in the draft, Tyson jackson, Clint Sintim, and BJ raji all of whom will be taken by the end of the 2nd round.

A lot of experts are saying that this is going to be the most talent-rich draft class ever because of the NFL CBA expiring, and the possibility of a rookie salary cap being put in place when the new one is set, so there will load of talent the later rounds because the college players want to get paid first, play second, so I don't object to trading down. I also wouldn't mind trading up to get a stud player, ala the Cutler trade up. We shall see I guess.......

If taylor mays and William moore are both gone by us I strongly recommend it unless for some miracle that crabtree fell to us or something awesome like that. If we could trade down to the late first and get another second by doing something like this:

              give up: pick 20 850pts
              3rd next year 150pts ish...

              for: pick 27 670pts
              2nd this year 310pts

that would give us a late first and two second this year.

              We could get players like:
              LB
              Brandon Spikes
              James Laurinitis
              Aaron Curry
              Scott Mckillop
              Jasper Brinkley
              Danelle Ellerbe
              Darry Beckwith
              etc...

              S
              William Moore
              Taylor Mays
              Kevin Ellison
              Patrick Chung
              Derek Pegues
              Rashad Johnson
              Nic Harris
              Michael Hamlin
              Myron Rolle
              etc..

              DT
              Terrance Cody
              Demarcus Granger
              Peria Jerry
              Sen Derrick Marks
              Fili Moala
              Evander Hood
              BJ Raji
              etc..

              RB
              Knowshon Moreno
              Shonn Green
              Javon Ringer
              Arian Foster
              Rashad Jennings
              Jeremiah Johnson
              CJ Spiller
              James Davis
              etc..

              DE
              Tyson Jackson
              George Selvie
              Greg Hardy
              Everette Brown
              Michael Johnson
              Brian Orakpo
              etc..

Thats alot of talent that could either fall to us in the late first or second round. Players slip every year, look at Dan Conner if you dont believe me. Chances are most of the top talent wont, but some will.

This team needs quality not quantity, and trading down to accumulate more picks is never a good idea with this scouting department and GM, I don't care that their recent success says otherwise.

Personally, I think the Broncos already hold too many draft picks for a weak draft, they should be trading up, not down.......
