  • Build this team up the middle

Regardless of how this season turns out it is obvious that this team has many glaring needs on the defensive side of the ball. I believe that drafting talented prospects at Defensive Tackle, Middle Linebacker, and Free safety should be our focus.

Some Real Players that could help this team

    Rey Maualuga, ILB, 6-2 260 4.75
This man is a force in the middle and would improve the run defense greatly.

    Brandon Spikes, ILB, 6-3 245 4.5
Quick and instinctive linebacker for the gators. He is a leader and is good in both run stopping and coverage.

    Myron Rolle, S, 6-2 218 4.4
A Rhodes Scholar athlete that is equally smart on and off field. Fast and instinctive can be a true leader in the defensive backfield. Great character and my favorite player in this draft for the broncos.

    Taylor Mays, S, 6-3 230 low 4.4
One of the best athletes in this draft. He is a vicious hitter and is ridicously fast. Has great size and strength and would a great fit for the broncos.

    Fili Moala, DT, 6-5 295
Big, Strong, and agressive describes Fili. He could be a great run stuffer in the middle that can make an immediate impact.

    Sen'Derrick Maks, DT, 6-1 295
Athletic and strong Maks can penetrate the interior and collapse the pocket as well as stop the run. Would instantly improve the defensive line on the broncos.

We should try to draft at least two of these Playmakers and we should trade some of our extra picks in order to move up and get another 1st round pick or a higher second round pick. This draft has lots of defensive playmakers and we should try to get as many as we can.

It'll be hard to get 2 of these guys, I think all of them will be 1st round picks. If not 1st then very high 2nd. None of them are worth trading away a future first or second rounder to get.

My choice for those 2 positions are BJ Raji- DT and Clint Sintim-MLB (plays OLB now but can switch)

          Excellent first post.

As of Sunday Albert Haynesworth became a free agent in the offseason. He should be Priority #1 for Michael Edward Shanahan.

As for the draft, I want to see how Woodyard finishes. Right now he is an electric force on the field as a Will. DJ can always be put back at Mike where he prefers. That leaves SAM for the draft. So with Albert anchoring the Line and DJ back in the middle, a bonafide stud safety is needed in the first round. Someone to put fear in TE and slot receivers. A big hitter. I just don't know if there is that type in this years draft yet.

I'm impressed by your first post! Welcome aboard..

I too believe in strength up the middle. For example, in hockey you want a few good centers. And that principle applies to many other sports as well. I am big on a MLB, that will run the D, and be all over the field. I like the term "ball hawk" with brains. I also like the idea of a fearless / fearful Safety, who will occupy the minds of anyone in their "large" area. TO be honest, I also want a dynamic RB, to partner with Hillis, and be backed up by whoever wants it the most. That could be Torain, Bell, Pope?, and so on. Further, I'd like to see us move up if necessary or get another 2nd pick, to nab three of these type players fairly early.

From there, we add more D, and a guard in the draft. BUT we fix the dline with at least one FA. A good one! After that, we should see who is out there that can fill any other weak spots.

Thanks for the welcome. The Broncos are fortunate that this upcoming draft is deep in the positions that we have the biggest weaknesses. The reason I suggest that we move up either back into the first or early second is because we have a chance to draft some impact defensive players in the first two rounds and we should at least try to pick up at least three top tier talent players in those two first rounds. The Bronc's are in good shape cap wise and I believe that this team has enough young players that can provide good depth. If we can pick up some top lvl talent on the defensive side of the ball this team could be a force to reckon with for years.

If I could choose two I would take Myron Rolle and Spikes.

Yeah I like the prospects, especially Myron Rolle, but I'd also be up for Sen-Derrick-Marks as I think a penetrating DT is a big need for this defense

Hows about moving DJ back to the middle, starting Woodyard at WILL and drafting Aaron Curry to play SAM.

Curry would require a 1st round pick, then a Safety I love in the 2nd is Derek Pegues, add Albert Haynesworth in FA and get a LDE in the 3rd or 4th round of this draft and our defense will be top 10 for the next 6 or 7 years!

Where do you get that he prefers ILB?

Everything that I have heard indicates otherwise.

He said last year that he prefers MLB but would be happy at WLB and that playing SLB sucks.

I like BroncosTX's idea of Haynesworth and DJ Williams at DT and MLB, respectively, it would allow Denver to draft Moore or Curry in the 1st round, but Williams has been moved around enough. I would prefer Spikes, Maualuga or even Curry at MLB with the 1st round pick and then just take the chance that Moore will drop to the early second round, where trading up should be an option.

DE is still a major need position, too, when Ebenezer Ekuban is your sack leader something is wrong.......

                          Thanks-

I kind of like having him weakside. I see him playing better this year than I can ever remember him playing. I too would rather have someone like Spikes in the middle. The only time I think DJ should be in the middle is in obvious passing situations. Don't get me wrong, I love DJ, and want him on the field on every down, just not in the middle on 1st and 2nd down.

I think too many fans are ignoring the ugly truth of the play of our d-line. When people have to defend, and call for more playing time for Ekuban, I think it says alot of the play-making ability of our front four.

I think Williams is best at WLB, and I still kinda think his comments last year about MLB was just talk. I'd much rather see them upgrade at MLB and SLB than move Williams again.

It's not popular around here but I think DL and LB are far bigger concerns than S, which isn't a particularly strong position in this draft class anyway, and I still just do not like what the Broncos look for in a safety.

Other than John Lynch, who brought more to the table than just ability, I can't think of a single safety that they've brought in that is worth a crap.

Through the draft, you've had Gem's like Kennoy Kennedy, Eric Brown, Sam Brandon, Chris Young, Tony Veland and Cory freakin Gilliard. All of them sucked!

Look at the free agents they've brought in: Nick Ferguson being the best, but hardly Tyrone Braxton (Much less Steve Atwater).......but you've also had Gem's like George Coghill, Billy freakin Jenkins.......IZELL REESE!!!!!!!

This team has never proven it can spot an impact S in the draft or in Free Agency .......not once! So combine that with the fact that this safety draft class leaves a lot to be desired, and I absolutely cringe at the thought of this GM taking a swing at this group of S's in the 1st round.

Even though I'd love for this forum to finally get their 2 to 3 S's, I hope Denver realizes that MLB/SLB/DT/DE/CB/RB are just as big of a need, if not more.......

We haven't had an impact safety since Atwater. That's a ten year drought. I admit that I did like Ferguson.

When you look at guys like Polamolu (sp?) and Bob Sanders it's obvious that the run stuffing safeties days are not numbered.
