Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Do you think we may pull off a big FA signing this year?
I think Dawkins is getting a contract. The most "realistic" signing would probably be Suggs. I see Haynesworth and Asomugha being locked up with FAT $$$ contracts. Maybe we make a run for Peppers? I don't see him being re-signed after this season. Ray Lewis will also be a FA but the Ravens are sure to lock him up due to his hard work and leadership.
So I say either Peppers or Suggs.

I wouldn't call Dawkins a big time FA anymore. He was great but he is 35 thats not the direction we need to go.
Suggs would cost alot but he would be our best player on D by far.
I think Shanny will be under alot of pressure to sign haynesworth or peppers or suggs but I still don't think its gonna happen they will earn #1-2 $$ for their positions and I don't think we will commit to that.
I don't want any of the 'Big Name' free agents, but that does not mean there aren't quality players tha can be added to the roster.
Darren Sproles would be an outstanding signing, and would be the first player I contact in free agency.
I love Miami Safety Yeremiah Bell. New England DE Mike Wright intrigues me as a young up and coming player...maybe Jacksonville MLB Mike Peterson, who had his issues this year, but has been outstanding in the past...maybe Atlanta's Keith Brooking, who was moved to SLB this season, but was a MIKE, and a good one, for several years before that.
The Broncos can add some talent and help themselves, but they have to do their homework and make the right decisions, which as we know, has not been their strong suit.
But I would pass on the Haynesworth's,Suggs, Peppers, etc, even if they are available in a ridiculous bidding war.
The only 'high priced' free agent I would be interested in would be Oakland CB Nhamdi Asomugha, which would allow us to shop Champ Bailey for another draft pick or two, and cut ties with Dre Bly.

He is the last person we need to get rid of on this defense. I don't care what draft picks we would acquire for him. You wanna rebuild this Defense? Fine with me but getting rid of Champ Bailey is going backwards.

The only high priced FA I would be interested in is Haynesworth. I think he would make our D much better immediately. Top 5? Of course not. Our D is severely broken and will take years to fix. But I do believe it would shore up our DLine quite a bit and we would do much better at stopping the run. We might get close to the 15- 20 range if we added some other talent around him. I also think Thomas would instantly get better. I would break the bank to bring him in.
Nhambi would be nice as well, so I guess I lied above, but I think he will get franchised. I don't really consider Nhambi available. I think Al Davis has lost his marbles but he won't let Nhambi go. He might be the best CB in the NFL and that would be nice to have.
I also really like Peterson and would love to pick him up. Bell would be a good starting safety for us. He could team with a 2nd round pick to give us a couple of real safeties for the first time in a while.
Personally I am a bigger fan of Ward than Sproles. I don't think Sproles translates well to playing every down and may bring additional injury problems if we try to use him that way. But maybe he is a good third down back and we could rotate other backs with him. He might end up being like Westbrook but I think he is closer to Leon Washington. I would like to take a look at Aldridge and see if we already have a version of Sproles on the team. I think Ward could excel on our team and I believe he will be available. I would guess the Giants will try hard to keep Jacobs and then let Bradshaw take Ward's carries.

So my wish list includes ---
Haynesworth
Peterson
Bell
and Ward.
Did I spend enough money yet?
Eh, don't worry, it's not our checkbook
As far as Asomugha is concerned, I heard an interesting discussion on NFL Sirius radio where Pat Kirwin suggested the Raiders may have real financial difficulty frachising him again, due to all the wasted moiney with DeAngelo Hall, Javon Walker, Tommy Kelly, etc, as well as the huge contracts given to JaMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden, Robert Gallery and another pending Top 10 contract they have to dole out with their next draft pick (Maualuga?).
So, considering all the jack we are paying Bly and Bailey, if we added Asomugha, we could trade Champ and cut Bly and it would work out the same, salary cap wise.

I disagree. If we were to get Nhgamdi Asomugha, Champ Bailey would be more than expendable.

Interesting. And worse case scenario you cut Bly and can't trade Champ for any real value and you have Champ and Asomugha playing opposite each other. This approach worked well with the Eagles this year. Samual was a good pickup. There is no doubt we need playmakers on this D and I am find paying big money to top CBs. I am not sure we could get much for Champ at this point but I could be wrong on that. I don't know what his value is. His injury this year did not help his value.
I know the Raiders have real salary cap issues and some dead money but they seem to be able to make moves every year. It will be interesting to see what they do. After watching Bush run on Sunday I wonder if they regret spending all that money on McFadden. Fargas and Mcfadden are taking quite a bit of money.
its simple go get 1brian dawkins 2albert haynesworth and 3julius peppers, switch to a 3-4 with woodyard williams winborn and bailey at LB,hire mangini at d coordinator and i smell super bowl
There is no question this team will look towards FA for some immediate relif.
For the sake of our future, I really hope that our organization dosen't blow our money one a couple of risky expensive FA's. There are some gems to be found lurking below the elite, and we could get some great value for them.
RB (Instead of Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward)
1. Fred Jackson
2. Maurice Morris
Two very good underratted backs who are wating for their chance to be a number one, and both would fit our system very well. Jackson is restricted so it might take a pick, but he is a beast so it might very well be worth it.
DL (Instead of Peppers, Suggs and Haynesworth)
1. Jonathan Babineaux (DT)
2. Paul Spicer (DE)
3. Rob Meier (DT)
4. Ryan Sims (DT)
5. John Thornton (DT)
6. Mike Montgomery (DE)
If we get one or two of those guys, we will immediatly improve our D-Line. My personal targets are Meier and Montgomery. Two underrated players.
LB (Instead of Vilma, Suggs, and Scott)
1. Eric Barton (MLB)
2. Angelo Crowell (SLB)
Barton would be a solid MLB, but he will get a heft paycheck probably
DB (Instead of Asomugha - ugh -, Dawkins, Rhodes)
1. Jabari Greer (CB)
2. Darren Sharper (FS)
3. Nick Collins (FS)
4. Sean Jones (FS)
5. Jarrad Page (FS)
Jones or Collins are my favorites....
Remember, not all of these guys will come cheap, and depending on who is resigned they will be fairly expensive. However, they will be much easier to sign, and far more realistic then any of the big names that are thrown around.
I would be delighted if we signed Jackson (RB), Montgomery (LE), Meier or Babineaux (DT) and Collins or Jones (FS)
Four mid-level signings who would be better then what we have right now sounds good to me.
Feel free to add any bargin FA's you know about....
