pat bowlen messed up. no way shanahan souldve been fired, u cant contend every single year even tho denver is a strong team EVERY year behind shanahan. This sucks, denver is really going to fall apart now, i pictured this last season as a rebuilding period and they could come back with a better defense next year and make a run. Congrats pat u moron, who are u gonna find better than mike?? somebody please tell me. Unless they can get cower or maybe kubiak back (which wont happen) its gonna be a while b4 the broncs can have another winning season

Exactly what I was thinking. I hope it isn't a big name guy, but a guy who knows defense. That way they will keep the offensive coaches, as they have no reason to be fired.

I hope that the new coach doesn't scare off our core of good players.

How do you think Cutler, Marshall, Royal, Hillis, Clady, and all of our players will respond to this? Will they lose their fire, and then leave when their contracts are up?

              I am so nervous.

I think retaining the offensive coaches would be best. As long as Dennison's here, we should be able to keep running the ZBS. Bates took over playcalling on O this year and did a pretty good job although we obviously need some more balance and consistency there. This O is built to suit Shanahan's offence and I think we should keep running as much of it as possible.

Defensive HC would be the best move I think. Get an HC/DC combination, get a direction, make sure Goodman does his homework (I'd say he's going to be promoted to GM) and leave the offence to its own devices really.

As for the players, I think it'll come as a shock. But Jay is Bates' boy, that's been clear for a while now. And I think the players will fall in line with Jay. Obviously, it's hard to say what sort of rapport the players have with Shanny, but hopefully they'll keep it together. It may affect the defence less because they probably don't deal with Mike.

Am I scared? Yes. I'm intrigued...not really excited. I don't like this move, but it's not to say that nothing good will come of it. I don't think next season will be a disaster if we keep our O together.

I kind of feel bad for Mike though. We weren't a million miles away from becoming a great team (although backing Slowik wouldn't have paid dividends for us). But he had his franchise offence back together in the same mould as the Championship teams...and now the architect has gone. But wherever he goes, I know that he'll be successful...it just won't be the same without him on the sidelines.

On a lighter note...Kyle Shanahan for HC?

I was very surprised by the news this afternoon. Although I was and will always be a supporter of Shanahan, all I can do now is look forward to the new HC. I hope we find a coach who is defense-minded and has a proven track record. We will retain our Offensive coaches so our strong point should stay in place. I think any coach would love to come to Denver, we arguably are one of the best, coachless teams and we are on the cusp of being a great team. We could really use a motivational coach, Spagnuolo seems to fit the bill pretty well here.

I don't dislike the move. I'm neutral really... it all depends on what steps we make towards changing. I do trust Bowlen. I think he will hire a good coach, I donno about keeping our O coaches because the new coach may very well want his people in, not many coaches have no ego like Tomlin in Pittsburgh... (I can only hope... as that made a very positive impact)

Well I am going to stay away from the boards for a while until it slows down from the Shanny firing. But I will leave you all with this....

Pat Bowlen graduated from University of Oklahoma.

                        Cya next year!

                            Head Coach wish list

                            1. Steve Spagnolo
                            2. Ron Rivera
                            3. Jim Schwartz
                            4. John Mitchell
                            5. Jim Caldwell (doubtful cause Tony will walk away this year) so I get a 5a
                            5a. Josh McDaniels

And my dark horse – who I think would be a great but short lived choice: Rex Ryan

Personally, I'll be shocked if we don't land Bill Cowher. It's a perfect fit in every conceivable way.

If we offer Cowher the job, he will take it. There is no doubt.
