  • Jack-o-Mock Draft (Before free-agency and combine)

    Broncos Draft Needs
Urgent: Denver must strengthen its defense everywhere. A people-eating nose tackle, a middle linebacker, a playmaking defensive end, and a young ball-hawking free-safety are all urgently needed.

Strong: An outside linebacker, young center, a run-stuffing strong-safety and an offensive guard are all strong needs.

Moderate: A good solid running back also would help the cause, but is not a strong need.

    2009 Jack-o-Mock Draft

    1) Rey Maualuga - ILB (USC)
We need a solid core to our defense which starts with playmakers. Maualuga is a leader in the middle and a force to be feared....something we haven't had since Al Wilson.

    2) William Moore - FS (MIZ) or Patrick Chung - SS (UO)
Both would be nice to have and either will be a serious upgrade to our current talent. I believe we will be able to keep Barrett as the other safety with his developing potential.

    3) Mitch King - DE (UIa)
This guy is way under rated and is a force as a DE. He never takes off a play, plays with a serious mean streak and looks to have what it takes to make it at the next level.
    http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/...r%3fid%3d24628

    4) Zach Follett - OLB (CAL)
Good nose for the ball, great at blitzing the QB and hits everything and everyone hard.....Just what we need to help develop a good defense.

    5) A.Q. Shipley - C (PSU)
We need a OC in this draft at least for depth and development. We are too old at this position and K. Lick is our only youthful option at this point in time. A.Q. has all the credentials to be a solid OC in the ZBS.

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigten/0-...ividual-.html/

    5) Terrence Taylor - NT (UMi)
A prospect that had a lot of hype and production last season, but has had a down year possibly due to a new coaching staff. If he doesn't work out as a NT we can always look to develop him into a DE where he may be even more threatening.
    http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/p...ospect_ID=1646

    6) Sammie Lee Hill - NT (SC)
Project NT that needs developing as he comes from a small school. He has great measurables for a NT and would learn well from a veteran we could pick up in free agency.
    http://www.milehighreport.com/2009/1...nger-of-sammie

    7) Rich Ohrnberger - OG (PSU)
A Later round OG that also looks to be a good option for depth on our offensive line and a good fit for our ZBS.
    http://gopsusports.cstv.com/sports/m...ividual-.html/

    7) Rulon Davis - DE (CAL)
A late round DE that had an injury which shortened his year, still he looks to have a lot of upside to strengthen our d-line as he is very disruptive when healthy.

I tried to address as many areas of need as possible without trades. I'm sure it will change after free agency and the combine as our needs change and draft stock fluctuates.

Tell me what you think.....Any criticism or compliment is welcome and I will elaborate on my picks if you want me to.

Do a little research on these guys if you aren't familiar with them and enjoy!

    James Laurinaitis> Rey Maualuga
Laurinaitis WILL do better in the NFL than Maualuga.

Actually, I just felt that they would both be good candidates for depth in our zone blocking system.

I really don't have a favorite college team.

I Just like these guys ->

I really love the DE from Iowa that kid looks like a sleeper to me if i ever saw one...
Yes...I think we have to get a NT with experience to start right away and help groom a rookie NT project.

It just doesn't make sense to me; putting a rookie "on the spot" to sink or swim without guidance from a veteran at the position. It is simply a position we must pursue both in free-agency and the draft if we are switching to a 3-4 defense.

I'm glad you like my mock...

Unfortunately there's kind of a shortage of veteran NTs on the market right now.
Only fools bet against Tim Tebow.

            Team Tebow #108

            Yards, without points, mean nothing.

1/3 of the picks are for our oline?

other than that its not a bad mock..

That is true, but I still think we will see the best results at NT from a veteran. Even if we don't get a top tier NT in free agency we will at least have a mentor for a rookie to learn from.

Right now, as it stands, we have nobody with the exception of Robertson with experience at the position. (....and Robertson was playing out of his natural position with a destroyed knee.)

                    Yes, that is correct!!!!

We have weak depth and an aging center on our o-line, also free agency is coming. If we want to keep our o-line up to par we must get some depth and these guys would fit right in our ZBS.

Our offense was great last year in part because of our o-line play and I really don't want us to fall apart because we have holes in our line next year.

As much as we need defensive players, we still need to look at our core offensive needs.

Also, notice that the top picks are all on the defensive side of the ball in my mock. I'm not ignoring our defense I'm just acknowledging that our offense has needs as well.

                        Well Done Mock JOL ......

My only gripe was with the 3 OLinemen----

I would change Xavier Fulton in the 5th but like the two from Penn State.

we have the best top 3 OT core in the pros. ryan harris and ryan clady are bookend franchise tackles, who will have many pro bowls in tehre future if they stay healthy. and Tyler polumbus proved he is a very capable as a swing tackle back-up. 3 tackles is normal on the final 53 with the talent we have there. I agree c/g are needs but rather than waste 2 picks i feel a G/C hybrid is best as licht and hamilton are also versatile and can play guard and center.

getting someone like Dallas reynolds a 320 LB mauler would help any interior o-line position out depth wise. and would give us flexibilty with licht and hamilton.....

this was the main thing i didnt like was the 3 OL picks especially the tackle pick, its just a waste.....

I hear you guys loud and clear...still, I like the penn o-line picks instead of a guy like reynolds..

So I switched it up and put Terrence Taylor in there. I was tossing those picks in the air while I was making this mock.

Is this a little more reasonable now?
