  • LARSEN and WILLIAMS BRONCO ILB'S

In order to upgrade our defense, every 2009 draft pick and free agent signing will be more important than ever.

Other than Webster I felt that our LB core of Williams, Larsen, Winborn and Woodyard were solid....not great, but definitely better than average. They were constantly exposed because of poor execution on the part of the defensive line.

Do you all think that Williams and Larsen would be adequate to get our 3-4 defense rolling?

If they could successfully convert to the 3-4 it would free up more FA money and draft picks to build our d-line and future safeties. We could try and find a project ILB in a later round.

lol no, there not above average imo. but hey at this point, slightly below average sounds too good to be true for me. i think larsen and williams would be adequate at middle for now, and all we need now are OLBs, possibly converted DE like moss or maybe dumervil or draft a dominant OLB.

      YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I have been saying this since we were going to switch to a 3-4.

DJ will be the WILB. The WILB is the faster and smaller of the ILB's, he help more in pass-support and is sideline to sideline.

Larsen is too slow to be a MLB. He however, played excellent against Atlanta. He will be the SILB. The SILB is bigger and better in run-support. Not as fast as the WILB.

This makes so much sence. ILB is not a huge need for all you Rey fans.
      AND
Good 3-4 ILB's can be had in the later rounds. 3-4 OLB's are only in the 1st and early 2nd.

I was very down on Williams, even to the point that I hoped he would be traded. Later I found out how banged up he was late in the season, and in all fairness when healthy he should play at a high level. Larsen was one of our hardest hitters and was only able to devote half of his efforts to develop his LB skills. He could be our biggest diamond in the rough, but I am not sure
how he fits into the 3-4.

SILB would be the ideal fit for him. Bigger and slower of the two ILB's.

I want to know where everyone got the names for these linebacker positions...lol.

There is no Sam Iam, Will Iam; Sam, Mike, Ike and Will were the correct names associated with these positions, or they had been so since I was around the sport...lol. Did the league change something?

I agree! We've invested the pick in Larsen so lets give him a shot at a position (3-4 ILB) which looks like is a better fit for him rather then manning the middle in a 4-3.

The most important position on the 3-4 is hands down the NT. If we land a premier NT, we could have James Farrior or any other stud 3-4 ILB for all I care because we would still be dead last in the league on defense.

Rey Maualuga is a luxury pick for us right now that wont make us a better defense.

Bj Raji first round at 12 or what ever it takes.
