  • Killer mock, but not too likely

Now I really have tried to cut down on the amount of mocks I do, but I came up with a good idea that I had to try out. The draft isn't too different from previous mocks, but my FA is and the earlier rounds are a bit different. The major cons to this draft is that we'd have to spend a bit and that it's not very likely.

FA: Gabe Watson for a 3rd or 4th rounder Our starting NT, I'll show both picks but remember we won't get both.

OJ Atogwe, FS Expensive guy, but a ball-hawk. Here's where the unlikely part begins but he would really help our defense.

Chris Canty, DE Some people think Canty won't be released, and if he's not spears probably will so I'd be fine with Spears too.

Draft: We trade our 1st round pick for a 1st and 2nd. I know it drives people crazy when the mocker does this so I apologize to them, but I'm still doing it.

1.) Knowshon Moreno, RB And Eddie $ Royal immediately gives draft an A+, LOL. If Moreno's gone then get McCoy insead. Pros: Very fast home-run threat with great agility and toughness, could immediately give us the #1 offense. Cons: Where do I start?

2a.) Larry English, OLB Probably my favorite 2nd round LB. Pros: Provides the pass-rush we need and could be a steal. Cons: Not addressed earlier.

2b.) Clay Matthews, OLB Another good OLB with NFL background. Pros: He's a pure football player that works hard, could also be the steal of the LB class. Cons: Refer to 2a and is the same position as 2a.

*3.) William Moore, S Could play either spot, but I'm not sue where he'll go. Pros: Was a ball-hawk his Jr. season that really lit it up. Cons: Really digressed his Sr season. Based on his Sr season he should be at best a 3rd rounder but he may go sooner if a team is desperate. Remember we may not have this pick.

*4.) Mitch King, DE Pros: High effort and intensity Cons: None that I can think of Alternate: Jasper Brinkley, ILB Pros: Prototypical size Cons: Had injury issues his Jr year. We could try to get Brinkley at 5a in place of Taylor

5a.) Terrence Taylor, NT Pros: Thick, squatty NT that can eat up blockers. Has upside Cons: None really

5b.) Patrick Turner, WR Pros: Big, tall receiver that could be a real threat. He'll be either our #4 or #5 receiver and should be a big mismatch Cons: May not be available

6a.) Sammie Lee Hill, NT Pros: Big athletic guy. Let these two guys and Watson compete in camp. Con: this is the 3rd NT, but it's good value.

6b.) AQ Shipley, C Pros: Solid C, depth pick. Cons: Slight fall. If you guys haven't noticed, I pick a lot of guys that fall. Somebody does, and I just try to predict them.

7a.) Marcus Thigpen, KR Pros: Has some serious wheels, he probably(and kinda hopefully) will not see time at RB, but he might be a good KR. McDaniels may not want Royal doing it. Cons: Not really any.

    7b.) Best FB available

Do we have one or two 7th rounders? I always forget. I know this isn't too likely, but wouldn't it be cool? Here's our depth chart:
    Offense
    QB: Cutler
    HB: Hillis and Moreno/McCoy
    FB: Hillis/7th rounder
    WR: Marshall, Royal, Stokely, Turner/Jackson
    TE: Scheffler/Graham
    LT: Clady
    LG: Hamilton
    C: Wiegman
    RG: Kuper
    RT: Harris
    Defense
    RE: Thomas/Peterson
    NT: Watson/Taylor/Hill
    LE: Canty/*King
    OLB: English
    ILB: Williams
    ILB: Larsen
    OLB: Matthews
    CB: Bailey
    SS: *Moore/Barrett
    FS: Atogwe
    CB: Bly

My hope is that either Taylor or Hill develops into a good NT. We can cut Robertson to save cap. What this draft does: Gives us a dominant offense. Gives us a lot of promise on defense. What this draft does not give us: a dominant ILB, but I think Larsen and Williams will do find. Remember, when Larsen played MLB we held Michael Turner to just 80 yards. I think he could be a good 3-4 MLB. Well, let me know what you think. IDK if this is absolute best, but if a guy like Orakpo, Brown, or Raji isn't available i'd love for this to happen.

    PS Feel free to rip

    My predictions:

Eddie$ Royal will love this draft.

Lancane will be kinda bleh. Liking the Matthews pick, disagree with Moore being available, and not too happy with the Moreno pick but understanding it if nobody else is available.

Papa-pwn will not be happy with the Moreno pick.

I believe it's Cutler'stheman(I get the Cutler posters mixed up) will hate the trade.

Fraguela won't be happy with the Canty signing.

If Atlanta resigns foxy then we will have two 6ths.

If they don't then we have two 7ths.

Oh, but they will resign him.

Wow really? I thought you were basically of a Wells or nobody mentality. I just think Hillis and Moreno/McCoy would make a great pair and would be available later. Atogwe isn't too likely, but anything's possible and it would be pretty awesome in my opinion if this happened. But now I can't decide if I want this to happen or get possibly an elite guy like Orakpo or brown. I would really like getting Matthews and English.:go:

            Meh...WTH do you mean Meh?...lol.

Not bad, I would likewise be pleased to have Canty or Spears, so good call Bowie. Watson is also a good addition, and if you add in Peterson and others on the roster, that is one hell of a start.

Atogwe? Denver will not give him the money he wants, Sanders from New England is more likely, even Jermaine Phillips...not but, just unrealistic...lol. Would be cool though!

As for the draft...Moreno is a smart pick, he will be the best overall back of this draft IMHO. English is a ball player, so I would be fine with him...though I prefer a few others above him. Matthews is a terrific pick, as you know my opinion there. William Moore? He will not be available and in that case I would rather have Cook, safety is a possibility in that slot. Mitch King needs to be on a 4-3 team, not a 3-4...great ball player, wrong scheme to come into. I like Ayers and he just like King are better fits for other schemes and systems.

Terrence Taylor will be a wasted pick, according to my sources he is doing everything besides holding up a Jenny Craig Center to lose weight, he wants to lose it all, he has issues with tiredness and overall stamina. Will likely be a bust or at best a backup defensive tackle at the pro level. Turner is a good pick, I see him becoming a dominant tight end at the next level, maybe a possession receiver. Sammie Lee Hill will go sooner, but not a bad addition to the roster, so I would not mind adding him in the draft. Shipley is not bad, but some better athletes will likely be available and he will likely be gone.

Not bad overall...not bad at all!

No ripping, Just no KNOWSHON...I love the King pick, and I love the Moore oick...We should go 2nd round on him though...To many LB'ers not enough Orakpo's and Brace's...I think Taylor will be a steal...You also have Turner and Thigpen...NO way...Top 4 to 5 rounds will be Defense 2 outta the 5 will be NT/big DT...The other 2-3 will be OLB MOTORS...Orakpo,Brown Speed guys,.The only outside shot of anything other than Saftey,NT,or OLB...would be aRinger, a Jennings, or an Ian Johnson...But that wont be till 6 or 7....I want Defense defense defense Three and outs and sacks on the QB...RB are a dime a dozen...Hillis 7th rounder out rushed...Mr. Hog himself...and Dallas's speed Demon...He was a third string...he was a fullback...

What seperates these runningbacks honestly...Running behind our line...

              Chris Wells, Ohio State
              Height: 6-1. Weight: 232.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Projected Round (2009): Top 20 Pick.
1/3/09: Despite playing just nine games, Chris Wells finished with 1,091 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He caught just seven passes, however.

              Knowshon Moreno, Georgia
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 207.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Projected Round (2009): Top 20 Pick.
1/8/09: Pretty much a given - Knowshon Moreno has declared for the 2009 NFL Draft.

              LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 207.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
              Projected Round (2009): 1.
1/15/09: One week after he announced he was returning to school, LeSean McCoy, living up to his nickname (shady) officially declared for the 2009 NFL Draft.

              Shonn Greene, Iowa
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 235.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/3/09: Shonn Greene announced that he'll enter the 2009 NFL Draft. And with 1,729 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior, who could blame him? Greene caught just eight passes, so he'll have to work on that part of his game. Still, he could be a second-round pick when it's all said and done.

              Donald Brown, Connecticut
              Height: 5-10. Weight: 210.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
              Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/4/09: Donald Brown brought the Bubble Lead and then some in a win against D.Wily and the Buffalo Bulls, rushing for 261 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. After the game, Brown said he's declaring for the 2009 NFL Draft. No one can blame him for doing so.

              Devin Moore, Wyoming
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 192.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.32.
              Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
1/3/09: If Devin Moore runs a low 4.3 as projected, teams will look at him as a Felix Jones-type back, making him a first-day possibility. Moore rushed for 1,303 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes.

              Javon Ringer, Michigan State
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 203.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
              Projected Round (2009): 3.
1/3/09: Javon Ringer gained 1,590 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior. He also caught 25 passes. But as I mentioned, he needs to drop his 40 to cement his Day 1 status.

              Rashad Jennings, Liberty
              Height: 6-1. Weight: 234.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
              Projected Round (2009): 3.
1/3/09: Rashad Jennings finished his sterling 2008 campaign with 1,500 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.

              Jeremiah Johnson, Oregon
              Height: 5-8. Weight: 198.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
              Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

              James Davis, Clemson
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 207.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
              Projected Round (2009): 4.
1/3/09: Like everyone else on Clemson, James Davis had to deal with the team's massive offensive line problems. Davis rushed for 725 yards and 11 touchdowns on a 4.6 average. Not bad considering the circumstances.

              Andre Brown, N.C. State
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 224.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
              Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/3/09: Andre Brown's rushing totals aren't impressive (728 yards, 6 TDs), but the fact that he caught 28 balls for 305 receiving yards at 230 pounds definitely is.

              Glen Coffee, Alabama
              Height: 6-1. Weight: 205.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
              Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/10/09: Glen Coffee has declared for the 2009 NFL Draft, even though he's just a mid-round prospect. Coffee rushed for 1,383 yards and 10 touchdowns, and also caught 16 passes, but he's light and won't dazzle anyone at the Combine.

              Arian Foster, Tennessee
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 232.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): 5.
1/20/09: Arian Foster showed up to the Senior Bowl 15 pounds overweight.

              Mike Goodson, Texas A&M
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 195.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
              Projected Round (2009): 5.
1/20/09: Mike Goodson has declared a year early for the NFL Draft. His stock really depends on how fast his 40 is at the Combine. If he runs a 4.3, he made the right decision; if not, he should have stayed in school. Goodson totaled 406 rushing yards, 386 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

              Gartrell Johnson, Colorado State
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 222.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.62.
              Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/29/09: Gartrell Johnson's 40 is going to hurt him, but hopefully some team will see past that. In 2008, Johnson recorded 1,476 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also helped out the passing game by catching 32 balls for 295 more yards.

              Tyrell Sutton, Northwestern
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 203.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
              Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/3/09: Playing in just eight games because of a broken wrist, Tyrell Sutton rushed for 776 yards in 2008. He also had 30 catches, 276 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns.

              Kory Sheets, Purdue
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 203.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
              Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/3/09: Kory Sheets had an underrated senior year, rushing for 1,131 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 37 balls for 253 receiving yards.

              Cedric Peerman, Virginia
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 210.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
              Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/3/09: Cedric Peerman finished with 774 rushing yards and seven touchdowns as a senior, but also caught 44 balls.

              Herb Donaldson, Western Illinois
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 220.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): 6.
1/3/09: Herb Donaldson debacled Division 1-AA yet again, accumulating 1,784 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.

              Keegan Herring, Arizona State
              Height: 5-10. Weight: 193.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
              Projected Round (2009): 6.
10/18/08: Hamstring injuries have ruined Keegan Herring's season. He has carried the ball only 34 times in seven weeks.

              Javarris Williams, Tennessee State
              Height: 5-10. Weight: 215.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/3/09: Javarris Williams finished the year with 1,037 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

              Curtis Brinkley, Syracuse
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 203.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
              Projected Round (2009): 7.

              Marlon Lucky, Nebraska
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 215.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
              Projected Round (2009): 7.

              P.J. Hill, Wisconsin
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 233.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.64.
              Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/9/09: In a very curious move, P.J. Hill has declared for the 2009 NFL Draft. There's a good chance he won't be drafted, so I don't know what he's thinking.

              Rodney Ferguson, New Mexico
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 237.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
              Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/3/09: Poor combine numbers will hurt him, but his stats remain impressive. Rodney Ferguson totaled 1,105 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2008.

10/18/08: Rodney Ferguson performed well against the two high-conference schools on his slate; he rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns against Texas A&M and Arizona.

              Ian Johnson, Boise State
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 199.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
              Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/3/09: Ian Johnson compiled 766 rushing yards, 22 catches, 229 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior. Not exactly the sizzling stats he had earlier in his collegiate career. Well, at least his wife is hot.

10/18/08: Still way too small to be an every-down back in the NFL. He can't even carry the load on his own at Boise State.

5/21/08: The casual fan knows Ian Johnson as the player who scored in the decisive touchdown against Oklahoma and then proposed to his girlfriend on national TV. NFL scouts, however, will come to know Johnson as a small back who runs a mediocre 40 at his size.

2007: A bit small, but Ian Johnson could be a nice change-of-pace back in the NFL. Still, you can't help but marvel at what he did in 2006: 1,714 yards and 25 touchdowns. Needs to become a better pass-catcher; only eight receptions last year.

              Tarrion Adams, Tulsa
              Height: 6-1. Weight: 206.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
              Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.

              Marcus Thigpen, Indiana
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 195.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.37.
              Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.

              Darrell Mack, Utah
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 219.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Corey Lewis, Northern Iowa
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 198.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Brad Lester, Auburn
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 192.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              LaMarcus Coker*, Hampton
              Height: 5-11. Weight: 205.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.36.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Kahlil Bell, UCLA
              Height: 6-0. Weight: 211.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Tyrell Fenroy, Louisiana-Lafayette
              Height: 5-9. Weight: 191.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Brandon Mason, Stony Brook
              Height: 6-2. Weight: 225.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
              Projected Round (2009): FA.

              Maurice Wells, Ohio State
              Height: 5-10. Weight: 194.
              Projected 40 Time: 4.51.

I wasn't aware of Taylor trying to lose weight, maybe switch Hill to the Taylor spot and a FB earlier? And about the Moore pick, how do you feel about Sherrod Martin, he seems to be a good ball-hawk as well. :go:

PS Who do you think would be a good late-round option for a 3-4 DE?

Sherrod Martin should be as far as his skills and ability a late 2nd early 3rd round pick, so if he is available I would draft him in a heartbeat.

I know alot of people like King and Ayers, but they need to realize 6-3, 6-4 around 270 some odd pound defensive ends fit the 4-3. So when I look at who are some good late round or even mid round 3-4 defensive ends who may be available:

Zach Potter - Nebraska, Nader Abdallah - Ohio State (Project), Ra'Shon Harris - Oregon, Demonte Bolden - Tennessee, Will Johnson - Michigan, John Faletoese - Cal Davis (Project), Corey Irvin - Georgia (Project), Darryl Richard - Georgia Tech, Jeremy Navarre - Maryland (Project) and Pannel Egboh - Stanford.

Just so you know, 3-4 defensive ends are usually between 6-4 and 6-7 close to 300lbs. That seems to be where alot of fans are miscalculating who can play what from off our roster...lol.

                      I liked almost everything except...

If we want William Moore we better pick him in the first because the Saints and Texans need a safety just as bad as us and they both pick before us in the 2nd and 3rd and on the waaaaaaay off chance that he does actually fall to the 3rd you can be sure one of those 2 teams would pick him up first.

I too hate the mocks where people have us trading picks (especially when they don't specify what team we would trade to) but since you have us trading our first for a first and a 2nd I assume we would be in the mid to late 20's and if that is the case Moreno will be off the board and McCoy will be all thats left.

In the event that McCoy is the top rated RB on the board I say we pass. I see McCoy as more of a less talented Reggie Bush who can be excellent in the NFL but isn't an every down back and needs a specific system to succeed.

I want best safety available in the 3rd round, and with Johnson, delmas, Chung, Martin, and Moore I think one of them will be available. If the Saints pick Johnson and Texans pick Delmas he could fall. As for the trade, I think the earliest point-wise we could go is #18, but I don't remember who picks there so I'll have to check.:salute!:

PS I think McCoy would succeed in this system

I don't like the running back pick in the first round.

Change that and I wouldn't mind this draft.

I wouldn't mind a back later in the draft, like Shonn Greene......I just don't see picking a RB that early and paying him that much money when on average RB's last about 5 years and are more prone to get injured.

P.S. Mitch King will be a good DE in the 3-4...He just needs to add a few pounds. He is super aggressive and will be a playmaker at the next level. Good selection. Also, Terrence Taylor had a bad year after coaching changes....He will be a steal.
