Why NO Love For Malcom Jenkins?

There is a school of thought that he could translate to be an incredible Free Safety. Alot depends on his speed tests.

If he somehow falls to us, and I think it is possible if he runs above a 4.5. Then I think we should draft him, make him a Free Safety, and do a happy dance.

He reminds me of Chris McCalister a little bit.

I just don't see him falling that far, but if he does he would be hard to pass up. I keep remembering that Denver has learned a lesson about targetting positions instead of the best player available. They changed their philosophy and had a pretty good draft last year. I personally think there are probably only 4 or 5 guys in the draft that are as NFL ready as he is. We could possibly move up in the second round and still get a good LB.

i bet he still a top 15 if he clocks a 4.5 at the combine

thats more than enough speed to keep up with TE's and most WR's

plus from all i here he is a very smart player, which will help compensate for the "lack of speed"

Don't think it would, but there would be a greater focus on him landing in a cover-2 scheme.

I'd take him only with the intentions that we'd move him to safety. He has the size and is insanely physical for a corner.

Doubt it, I say he runs a low 4.4 A high 4.3 wouldn't completely surprise me either.

i'd be perfectly happy with jenkins, the only players i would take above him are curry, orakpo, and maualuga.

if we ended up with one of those 4 i would be thrilled

i think both raji and brown have a very high bust potential

also i wouldnt be completely opposed to drafting moreno (no wells tho) so if the guys i mentioned above are gone i would be fine with either malcom jenkins or moreno

Haven't we learned already that even if we do have the best cornerbacks it means jack squat if our front 8 can't do anything?

Denver should take the best player available that fits a need, whether it be tailback, safety, linebacker, defensive end or nose tackle. We have enough needs without adding one more to the list.

if he somehow falls to us and orakpo, brown, and raji are gone i wouldnt be mad if took him

although there are still other prospects id rather see in that situation, id even rather have a RB

Another potential top-five prospect is Ohio State cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, who hails from Piscataway, N.J. Jenkins, who led his high school team to three consecutive state championships, won the Thorpe Award as the best defensive back in the country last year. He had just three interceptions in 2008, but that number had more to do with the opposition's desire to keep the ball away from Jenkins than any shortcomings on his part.

Jenkins is a physical, lockdown cornerback who can run with just about any receiver. He has excellent ball skills and is a threat to make plays after interceptions. He's also strong in run support, which will be a big part of his job in the NFL.

Why no love for this guy? We all know how hard it is to find a top, shut-down CB... especially one that is tough against the run.

We all saw how Champ changes games...

NOW, Champ aint getting younger and Bly is on his last leg in DEN... We have two rookies (Jack Williams & Josh Bell) who have potential... BUT, c'mon... really?

IMAGINE bringing in Malcom Jenkins... the best CB in this draft... imagine letting him learn from Champ... be his understudy... We might even get away with shifting Champ to FS on nickle-dime packages...

We all know how hard it is to draft this position... Very difficult to find- how many teams have a legit, game-changing, shut-down corner?

This guy has all the tools, the physical gifts... he's won everywhere he's played.

SO... I hear all about "reaching" at 12... "settling" for the next-best option... Grabbing whatever falls to us... That's all good... BUT, if our man is taken... do we settle for second-best?

This might be a mute point... Jenkins will probably be selected before we pick. BUT, if he is available... man, we would have to think long and hard about this guy.

What about Maybin, Wells/Moreno?

Tough call. We really need a NT... probably #1 priority... but is one available at 12? Other than that... we need EVERYTHING, and CB is just as important as S, LB or DE.

NOW... let me add... I'm not saying we should draft Jenkins. I, for one, would hope for Curry... Probably even take Rey Maualuga (and hope Martindale can turn him into a pro bowler)... BUT... I just wonder why MJ is getting no love? Is it b/c we are certain he wont be there? Or, is it b/c some thing we do not need a CB? OR, do other feel he just aint all that?
