Analysis
Positives: Good initial quickness off the snap. ... Quickly gets to top speed, flashing rare downhill explosiveness for the position. ... Reads the action quickly. ... Willing to take on blocks and has the strength and hand technique to shed quickly. ... Good lateral quickness to evade blockers and has the speed to beat backs to the flanks. ... Gets good depth on his pass drop and is quick to close on the ball. ... Punishing hitter with four career forced fumbles. ... Productive pass rusher with the speed to close on even mobile quarterbacks. ... Can break down in space to make the secure open-field tackle.
Negatives: Has a tendency to overpursue, opening holes in the defense for quick and savvy ballcarriers to exploit. ... Too often relies on his explosive hitting to knock down ballcarriers, rather than wrapping up to make secure tackles.

With that, it means that he can be juked outta his cleats.
Also the fact is he trys to lay out for the big hit and will sometimes miss the ball carrier all together or cause the ball carrier to simply scrap off of him.
He has some skill but shows lack of coverage ablity in a 3-4 scheme and is lucky to find the ball when in the air.Comment

And it also shows that he is just a good tackler and doesn't show great wrapping ability.

Or, we could take the best player available at #12 at a position of need, which might very well be RB Knowshon Moreno, or possibly a QB.Comment
-
RB is not a need, not in McDaniels' system. We already have a ton of servicable RB's, so spending 1st round money on another one would be idiotic. Moreno is nothing special and will probably be the next Curtis Enis in the NFL, 5 years and out of the league.Comment
-
You are aware that we have had private workouts with almost every big name RB in this draft right? Moreno, Jennings, Donald Brown.
A team only has so many personal private workouts it can schedule, we are looking heavily at a very high round RB.Comment
-
@ #12 we "could" be looking at this:
B.J. Raji-DT
Brian Cushing-LB
Chris Wells-RB
Vontae Davis-CB
Knowshon Moreno-RB
Josh Freeman-QB
Hakeem Nicks-WR
Aaron Maybin-DE/LB
Rey Maualuga-LB
Donald Brown-RB
Michael Oher-T
Alphonso Smith-CB
Brandon Pettigrew-TE
Percy Harvin-WR
James Laurinaitis-LB
Peria Jerry-DT
Eben Britton-T
Darrius Heyward-Bey-WR
Kenny Britt-WR
LeSean McCoy-RB
William Beatty-T
Those are from #12-#32
And prob the best 20 Prospects for the First Round.Comment

I don't read much into the private workouts.Comment

Both Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing would be good picks. Keith Rivers went to the Bengals with the 9th overall pick, I think it won't be a reach to get Maualuga or Cushing with the 12th overall pick. NFL.com says that Maualuga was more consistent than Rivers.sigpicComment

None of those deals were substantial. Arrington got 2 million per year as a kick returner, he might never play RB outside of catching the occasional pass on 3rd down.
Lamont Jordan was paid 1 million for this season. He might be cut in camp, but I bet he sticks as depth.
Buckhalter can't start, and has the most horrific injury history in the NFL, missing 3 complete seasons due to 3 different knee injuries. His contract was probably for very cheap. He's a solid backup until he gets hurt.
We have poop on a stick at RB. And we've invested limited money in the position.Comment

For those who like Rey Maualuga, here is what Jon Gruden had to say about the linebacker:
"I love Rey Maualuga from USC. He's my favorite player in the draft." Gruden proclaimed while commentating at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He would go on to joke that he separated his shoulder simply from watching the viscous linebacker on tape. He praised Maualuga's versatility and impact on the game: "This guy will smash you. He's an every-down linebacker. He gets down the middle in Pete Carroll's Cover 2 scheme. He can play in the nickle. He can play in the base. This guy will smash you. He is a heck of a football player. I love this guy".sigpicComment

At this point, poop on a stick is both poop and a stick ahead of most of our front-seven positions. I guess I'm saying I'd be stunned to see a RB picked at 12. It could definitely happen, but I'd really be kind of shocked.sigpicComment
