  • Maualuga is the next Seau? Wasn't Seau fast?

Seriously, Laurenitis will be able to play in the middle in the 3-4. This kid has made a living out of people selling him short. PLUS he's a stand up guy with a good head on his shoulders.

Also: I've never seen a MLB be out of position as much as Maualuga. I guess the upside is that he seems to recover fast. If he can be coached to not over pursue so much, he could be pretty fearsome.

You could argue that we have a serious log jam at OLB. I just don't know. I love Doom and I want Moss to live up to the potential. I think that we are going to play a lot of situational football this year. I just don't know if we have 7 legit starters in the front 7.

      DJ is a starter.
      Thomas is probably a starter.
      Davis is probably a starter.
Doom is a situational pass rusher.

It is going to be interesting. We should know by who we draft, how we feel about our current players.
DJ would do fine inside. Thinking either Dumervil or Moss can handle OLB is wishful thinking that gets you giving up 400 points again. The top priorities have to be one legit pass rusher OLB like Brown, English, etc and 2 gap DL anywhere across the line. The hardest thng to find will be a pass rusher so I would try to move into position to draft Brown in round 1 and another one with pass rush skills a couple rounds later. I could also get on board with a draft day trade to get an established DL.

So thinking that Doom can rush the QB is wishful thinking? It would be better to get unproven guy? Brown is a situational guy too.

Anyway, I was saying that I want Moss and Doom to succeed. I am saying that DJ can play OLB, Woodyard can play OLB, Bailey can play OLB, Reid can play OLB. I don't know how we are going to use these players, but we will find out what the team thinks about them after the first day of the draft.

I may be proven wrong but I don't think DJ would be a very successful 3-4 OLB. He doesn't have the size to shed blocks against Tackles very well, and that is critical with a 3-4 OLB. He's got the speed and strength to plug up a running lane as an ILB, and can still drop into coverage if the need arises. To be honest, I don't know how well he'll fit into a 3-4, period, and we may find out that he becomes trade fodder in the next year or two, but that being said, I still believe that he's going to have more of a chance at success as an ILB than an OLB in a 3-4. He certainly can't play the Hybrid LB in a 3-4, that's for sure. Picturing him lining up against a TE or Tackle in a three point stance gives me the giggles.

            • Rey in San Diego will come back and haunt this franchise for the next 10 years. We need guy's that can come in and play from day one. That is exactly what he can do. DL in 1st round is a big gamble. If Raji is there at 12, you need to take a chance, since NT is so important in the 3-4. However, outside of Curry and Orakpo, Rey is the best LB. He is used to playing in big games at SC. To me he is a throwback, like Seau, or a Polamalu. We don't need any primadonnas, just some players on D with heart, and who can hit.

I agree with moving DJ to outside and bringing in Rey to solidify the inside, but I am a fan of keeping Elvis on the line with a drafted DE and drafted NT, I like the way brown plays and think he would be solid on our team, but Jackson is also a good option

                Imagine

                Elvis/Brace/Brown
                Moss/Davis/Rey/DJ
                Champ/Dawkins/Hill/Goodman

and maybe pick up a good CB for the nickel and let him develop into a starter

also if Rey is gone people look at Scott McKillop...the man has a nose for the ball in the third round

Elvis will get eaten up as a 3-4 DE. I don't think there's a single person who's analyzed Denver's proposed switch to the 3-4 and thought for a second that Dumervil would remain at the DE position. A 3-4 DE needs to have good size and a strong push to penetrate and control the running lanes directly adjacent to where the Tackle is positioned, so that is the reason they are typically a 4-3 DT. Elvis is a prototypical 4-3 Pass Rush DE, in the mold of a guy like Dwight Freeny. He may still fit as a 3-4 OLB, but this is questionable because a 3-4 OLB is generally a good deal taller than Elvis is and must be able to cover the flats and the near outside patterns. I personally think that unless he makes a great mark as an OLB, he'll be gone within a year. Same goes for Jarvis Moss.

I don't know why we haven't offered them for anything yet. I love Doom, but he ain't gonna work in the 3-4. I'm sure there are some teams that would offer up some good trades.

Good question, we could probably get reasonable draft picks or consideration on future picks for both guys, and honestly, while it's possible that Jarvis could be a great fit as a 3-4 OLB, Elvis honestly doesn't fit either OLB or DE in the 3-4. I could see keeping him as a Pass Rush specialist when we swap to a 4-3 or a 4-3 base nickel, but that'd have him on the field, what, 10-15% of the time at most?

I would rather have a fresh Doom 10-15% of the time. Doom is getting paid nothing, we bring in a guy that would be a situational guy for 1st round money who might not even beat out Doom in training camp?

I agree that Doom can not line up as a 3-4 DE. Can you move him around on pass situations and causes huge match-up problems? Yes. Can you imagine Doom being blocked by a RB or TE?

All I want is a guy at #12 that will start day one. #18 is a luxury at this point, but I would like to see a starter picked there too.

Just sit there and say "Thank You". Because to us you are a lot like a spineless little girl. But for the record...... (I will speak for myself, cause I cant speak for every Marine out there) Calling me a "Jarhead", or a "Grunt" does not insult me..... I am proud of it. I am proud that I was a "Jarhead" a "Grunt", and a Marine. I earned those titles. I defended my country. But dont let your aligator mouth write a check that you kitten ass might have to cash...
