The pay really doesn't factor in, but you only have 53 roster slots. That's more of the reason I think that Elvis is a liability unless he proves me wrong and excels at OLB in the 3-4. I just think he's going to be lost at the position, as I don't see him doing well trying to shed blocks by TEs and Tackles from a two point stance. If they play him as a LB/DE hybrid similar to what Baltimore does, then I could see it maybe working, but that's still a big if. I know he doesn't cost much, but we have cap room to spare so that's a non-issue. But if he's only on the field 10-15% of the time on the D, unless he can contribute big time to special teams it's a waste of roster space. -

its maualuga and his lowest recorded time was 4.65 most say overall the times averaged out to 4.69 or 4.70. thats pretty good but a few tenths of a second over forty yards is not going to matter for a linebacker who will average about 20 yards run a play. forty times not only take a back seat to position workouts, they were told to get out and walk. his bench is nothing impressive either, and it will take alot more strength to shed an nfl lineman than a pac 10 lineman. that conference is dropping off fast, at this point even with usc if the talent levels are averaged they are worse than the mountain westLeave a comment:

its maualuga for sure with the number 12 pick and here is why. hes a 250 lbs run stoper, hes the biggest hitter in the draft and he ran a 4.6 40 at his pro day with a hurt hamstringLast edited by crash123go; 04-11-2009, 04:40 PM.Leave a comment:

Agreed we need starters. However, I have a feeling that Seattle is not going to pick Sanchez, and we will have a decision to make whether to trade up or not. I think if the decision is made to trade up, that we should try to trade up from both 1st round picks to get the players we want. Rey will not be around at 18.

I am official back on the Draft Rey Maualuga bandwagon. I admit that I went cold on him but after listening to Mark Schereff on ESPN. He said Maualuga would bring back the Hard Hitting Style that Al (our defense went down hill once he got hurt) Wilson had.
Denver's Starting LB's with Maualuga
Elvis Dumervil-------Rey Maualuga-----Andra Davis--------DJ Williams.
That looks pretty good to me.Leave a comment:

DJ is an OLB. What has made anyone think that DJ Williams can play ILB? By that I mean stop the run.Leave a comment:

I am Officially jumping back on the Rey Maualuga Bandwagon.
I will admit that I got a little cold on him and was probably wrong about him. Listening to Mark Schereff on ESPN , he said Denver needs Maualuga Hard Hitting to replace the once great AL WILSON(he was a Warrior).
So I am now thinking that unless BJ Raji falls to us at 12 that Denver should draft Rey Maualuga at 12.
My reasoning is I think that DJ Williams can still play OLB.
So here is our LB's with Maualuga
Elvis Dumervil-----Rey Maualuga----Andra Davis-----DJ Williams
I would be very happy with that.
Hopefully Dumervil can make the transition to OLB.Leave a comment:

OK all you Rey Rey fans. Why in the heck would you want this guy for our Defense he is a 2 down run stuffer in a 3-4 and DOES NOT FIT THE 4-3 THAT WE WILL BE RUNNING.
Unless Rey Rey falls to the second for us I would not want him PERIOD. I think he is worth the risk in the Second but i pass on him in the second.
Or we could select Brandon Spikes or Mclain next year. :
He isn't a 2 down run stuffer and is the best 3-4 SILB in the entire draft; which we are transitioning to btw.... Obviously you don't know what you are talking about.
You do realize that we may never see a third down anyway without a good SILB and stopping the run was what hindered our defense the most last year.
Your opinion is he’s not a 3 down player and I couldn’t disagree more. Rey is known for his ability to blitz from the ILB position. In fact, I would argue that he’s the best blitzing LB in this draft. So imagine if you have a passing situation on 3rd down and long. Why would he be on the bench when at the very least he could blitz the QB forcing a quick pass to the hot read and enabling the defensive backs to make the quick stop and force the punt.
or maybe...
Maualuga didn’t play 3rd down on tape BECAUSE USC HAD 3 OTHER LBs WHO WILL BE DRAFTED IN THE FIRST 40 PICKS OR SO....Immense talent around him, so they didn't call his number as often as they should have...
Just some things to ponder.
Really, any man of that size is going to be a little stiff in the hips, but he impressed the scouts that had doubts at the Senior Bowl practices and I think he will continue to get better with more experience.
P.S. If we don't get Maualuga this year, then I would be happy with Spikes next year.Last edited by Jack-o-Lantern; 04-10-2009, 07:33 AM.Leave a comment:
