  • Any project guys jumping out at you?

One guy that may be a nice fit to convert to a 3-4 DE is OT Lyndon Murtha, 6'7" 306lbs. There is a good chance he goes UDFA. Looking at his workout:

40 yd: 4.89 - Very, very good straight line speed at that weight
20 Shuttle: 4.34 - once again way above target at that size
3 cone: 7.06 - Fantastic time and the best DE indicator IMO
Vert: 35" - 2nd best of all OL guys, better than most TEs

His athleticism is off the charts, May be a two year project, may take one, but he did not look all that great mirroring guys, so I think he could fare much better as a DE in a 3-4.

    R Ayers - B Cofield - A Haynesworth - CJ ohnson
    J Anderson - J Beason - DJ Williams
    R Bailey - P Amukamara - R Hill - A Goodman

Convert a basketball player to a TE? SD made out like a bandit there.

Sometimes looking outside the box can result in a stud player.

It's funny you mention Murtha, because we had a few of the guys over to watch the combine and one of my friends mentioned how he looked like a prototypical 3-4 DE (he actually is a Dallas fan and said he looked a lot like Canty who is also 6'7" 304 lbs. and actually runs a slower 40 according to the reports I read) and the light bulb went off. If he were an UDFA there would be no harm in bringing in a guy with such upside to come in and earn his way if he is willing to do so at DE. I saw this and thought it was hilarious, but yeah, I think Murtha might be worth a flier as a 3-4 DE project if it turns out he might not pan out as an OT.

I'm looking at Kenny Mckinley as a late round pick at WR to become the slot receiver. I think he has great potential there. Looking forward to seeing his 40 time and receiving drills

I also think Patrick Turner might transition well as a TE in the NFL. He needs a little more bulk to his frame (6'5" 220) but he has great hands, and if he could put a little weight on, and also brush up on blocking with the new added weight/strength, he might be a worthwhile project. That's a lot of if's though, but that's what "projects" are all about.

WR Jaison Williams out of Oregon is an interesting prospect at TE. I wouldn't mind us getting him in the 6th or 7th rounds to groom at TE!

Haha!! I have done that for my Madden franchises, he is the best TE in the league.

What about Pat White at WR? I don't think anyone would have ever thought of that!

                      Trimane Goddard, safety from UNC
he was on some peoples all-american lists, he's a playmaker in the secondary. tied for the national lead in interceptions with seven.
but he doesn't have ideal NFL measurables so he might go undrafted

Ive been watching the Combine, and Jamon Meredith, South Carolina Really stood out to me.

                        Height: 6-5. Weight: 302.
                        Projected 40 Time: 5.04.
                        Combine 40 Time: 5.03.
                        Benchx225: 31. Arm: 34 1/2.

I know we dont need OT, but he's just a guy that I think looks like a stud. He impressed me more than Michael Oher

i dont think he stays UDFA any more i think he actually will be a late 5th rd-mid 6th rd pick.....telling you the truth though we may end up with 2 sixth rd picks if fox resigns with atlanta, so i might be down grabbing him with a sixth rd pick.....he does show some skills neccessary for the switch.

I actually have been interested in chris clemons from clemson he is reported to have put on some nice weight and could be a great project SS/LB box type player.....in the sixth rd...i am waiting for official weigh in results though.....but he was a great SS at clemson

Ya he could be drafted now. It would be a gamble, but taking him in round 6 would not be a horrible idea. Looking at his numbers again and comparing them to past picks:

                            Murtha:

                            40 yd: 4.89
                            20 Shuttle: 4.34
                            3 cone: 7.06
                            Vert: 35"

                            Kendall Langford (3rd round):

                            40 yd: 4.95
                            20 Shuttle: 4.69
                            3 cone: 7.72
                            Vert: 27"

                            Lawrence Jackson (1st rounder)

                            40 yd: 4.82
                            20 Shuttle: 4.40
                            3 cone: 7.08
                            Vert: 31"

These kids play Football part time and attend classes part time, I would bet given a year or two Wayne Nunnely could really make something out of a kid this athletic.

Vince Oghobaase DT out of Duke he is 6-6 310 pounds. he had An All-ACC honorable mention, and collected 51 tackles, nine TFL and six sacks as a junior. He looks like he may be good and I got denver drafting him in the third round in my mock draft :salute!:
