Woodyard as an OLB in the 3-4? Surely you jest.
Only fools bet against Tim Tebow.

Let's not forget that other teams besides the Rams and Broncos will target Bartell. Neither the Rams nor the Broncos are very inviting for a talented defensive player. Dre Bly, a Pro-Bowler, came to Denver from Detroit and got scapegoated out of town. Say what you want about Bly, he was definitely not the weak link on the defense, so replacing him with an expensive free-agent cornerback makes little sense. Plus, the Broncos have one of the league's weakest front sevens, with exactly one -- count 'em, one -- Pro-Bowl-caliber player (DJ Williams). Getting a high-priced cornerback is not going to help the defense.

as much as i liked bly and thought people were way to hard on him for what he had to work with he was 32 and had a 5 year 32 mil dollar deal

word is that both bartell and mcfadden are looking for 6 years around 30 mil

so we get younger and save a little dough, id say denver is a great opportunity for FA players to come in and start as well as show what they are worth by transforming one of the worst if not THE worst in the history of the franchise

the D has a talented O to compliment them so even if they are a slight improvement it will show. id say we have a much better situation than STL. hopefully we can nab one of them

have bailey, Bartell/McFadden, Paymah, Williams, and Bell for our secondary then bring in a couple S to compete for starting job like sanders, jones maybe, or wilson. and a dream of either canty or Igor (however unlikely)

that would leave the draft to bring in some LBs, DL, a RB, and then the rest of the role players that every team needs

that would be a perfect situation IMO and we would see results immediately at least i hope so cuz you cant get much worse than us last year

Don't assume that FA's don't want to come here because our defense was bad last year...

...with a new coaching staff and an organization with a very good reputation and owner; a lot of players will be interested in the opportunity/challenge to come here and start their own traditions and "legacies" if you will.

Denver presents a pretty blank slate for defensive players right now...and that may be pretty attractive to many.

As for paying a CB..at this point we need so much help at every level of defense.

We have the cap space, so if we can find a solid veteran player why not sign them? You can't really expect Jack Williams or Josh Bell to be 16 game starters next season...

              Bartell Update

              BARTELL UPDATE

Negotiations continue between the Rams and Jeffrey Griffin, the agent who represents free-agent cornerback Ron Bartell. Although the sides aren't close to a contract agreement, they are making progress.

All indications are that Bartell wants to remain with the team and is intrigued by the possibility of playing for Spagnuolo and in Spagnuolo's defensive system. Rams executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff was scheduled to meet again with Griffin on Saturday.

THats a tough question to ask of someone, I'm a champ bailey hater , and I think when he was 27 he was the best in football, so really no one can be as good as champ was at that age, hopefully they are better than bly was at that age.

Good lord as long as we don't end up third in line!!

John Clayton is on the pipe again

                  ---
Take cornerback. With Nnamdi Asomugha, Kelvin Hayden and Dunta Robinson franchised or signed last week, the top free-agent cornerbacks are Ron Bartell, Bryant McFadden and DeAngelo Hall. Their teams would like to keep them, but the market has increased, and each of these players could get up to $8 million a season to leave. Those figures have stalled re-signing talks.
                  ---

Unfortunately he's probably right about Hall getting a nice contract. Unless of course the GMs look at the game tape against Eddie Royal. Just the thought of him flyin in for a visit with us would kill me. As bad as we need another corner I'd still rather have Paymah start before we consider Hall.
So hopefully if can't get Bartell or McFadden we draft a stud.
