Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Mauluaga is a 3-4 inside LB. Laurinitis is not very good in traffic and will probably be a 4-3 outside LB. This is more damaging to Laurinitis.
Ohio State ILB James Laurinaitis posted unofficial forty-yard dash times of 4.80 and 4.81 at the NFL Combine.
Laurinaitis is a thumper and won't fit a Tampa 2 scheme where speed is required at middle linebacker, so these times don't hurt. His best position may be inside linebacker in a 3-4. He's a projected late first-round pick.
No.....it damages Maualuga more because he is seen as a prospect at middle linebacker for either the 4-3 or 3-4.......and 4-3 middle linebackers need to have some speed at least.....
Laurinitis is looked as more of an Inner Linebacker at a 3-4

Agreed...
Laurinaitis has been said to be a pure 4-3 Mike Linebacker, fact is that he can fit the interior of the 3-4, he really did not hurt his stock...nor help it. I think he will balance out in the end to be a top twenty pick along with Maualuga, will Denver take one of them? It is possible, but I think Denver will focus elsewhere before taking either of them. I was expecting Laurinaitis to clock a solid 4.4 if not at least a 4.5.
The top defensive players are starting to show themselves: Raji, Curry, Orakpo, Jenkins and Brown could possibly be the only defensive top 15 graded picks come the end of the combine.

you're kidding yourself if you thought Laurinaitis would run a 4.4 or 4.5
Throughout his college career he's never been thought of as a fast linebacker...but a reliable one. That's his greatest asset :salute!:
With all this bad news I've heard about Maualuga in the senior bowl and at the combine......I'm starting to question him a little........what about you?

Laurinaitis actually has very good game speed. I've watched my share of OSU games and range is one of the biggest things you notice when you watch James. I thought he would be 4.55-4.65 range to be honest. I feel the same about Rey Rey, at first, I loved the guy, thought he was just what this D needed, now he just seems to look like a guy who can lay the wood on occasion, but actually isn't as athletic as we all once made him out to be. His broad jump wasn't great, his slow 40 could have been attributed to the injury, but it seems like he pulled it after he broke the 40 line. I dont know, maybe the smart thing to do would be to start shopping that 12th pick for a later 1st rounder and 2nd if it appears Raji, Curry, Brown, and Orakpo will all be gone by 12. Just my opinion.
Laurinaitis is going to tumble down on draft day just like Dan Connor did. Maybe not as far as Connor fell, but it wouldn't surprise me if his name is not called on Saturday.

I think Maualuga is going to slide, San Diego may take him or New York (J). I was never that high on him because of his limited ceiling and lack of range...and just as you said, he has been less impressive then what people were expecting. I was already questioning him, at this point I think he would be an okay football player at the next level, just not worth the value at the pick.
