  • WR Gaffney to meet with Broncos

Looks like the boys at the frontoffice are having a long night:

    GAFFNEY REUNITING WITH MCDANIELS?
Posted by Mike Florio on February 27, 2009, 5:51 a.m.

Receiver Jabar Gaffney got a chance to resurrect his career over the past couple of years in New England.

Mired in a depth chart featuring men like Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte’ Stallworth, and Kelley Washington, Gaffney earned reps and made plays.

He’s now a free agent, and he could be reuniting with the offensive coordinator who presided over Gaffney’s rebirth.

Per a league source, Gaffney will visit with the Broncos, whose new head coach Josh McDaniels was the offensive coordinator during Gaffney’s time in New England.

Drafted in 2002 by the Texans, Gaffney spent four years with the team before signing with the Eagles. But Philly cut him before the 2006 season, and Gaffney landed with the Pats for three seasons.

What do you think? Personally I was hoping for Clayton, or maybe Washington. Dont know to much about Gaffney, is he any good?

He's got to be atleast a 5th tier guy. woohoo!
The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom
While he sits by his hearth at home.
Quickly finds when questioned by others .
That he knows nothing at all.

I'd rather have Clayton to be honest, but alright I guess.

Spent time in the New England system and would provide good depth, may even pass Chad Jackson for the number 3 spot and at the very worst would be a number 4 guy. I'm sure he wont cost much against the cap and I'm all for this signing.

Did Brandon Stokely die or retire?

I like this and it should not come as a surprise that MCD would want to hand pick a couple new wr to run his system .....

If MCD wants Gaffney then he has enough of what it takes to contribute to the team ......on the field and in the LR

we also have a meeting with michael clayton set up, i really want him, hopefully would impove our red zone efficiency... tough to match up against 2 6'4 WR's, 2 good tightends, and hillis as a threat to run/recieve out of the backfield...

                      gaffney is solid.

he would be a good pickup and i'm sure would lend a lot to the offenses' transition, particularly with the wideouts.

just wait...hopefully some of these guys will be broncos soon: Sean Jones (no news), Ron Fields (contract on the table), and Ron Bartell (visiting next week)

Exactly, I just really hope we don't sign Renaldo Hill. Why would we possibly sign a guy that's 30, when there's Sean Jones, only 26, with his best football ahead of him. If we get cheap again we're just going to put ourselves in the same position. If we added Mike Wright, Ronald Fields, Bartell, Sean Jones, James Sanders we would instantly be better on D. They are all going to fit very easily under our cap, and are all instant starters. I just can't see how we are putting an emphasis on our offense right now, when we are arguably 2 pieces away from dominance (#2 WR, RB) and about 8 pieces away on defense while we are transitioning to a new scheme. Hopefully there are offers on the table to some of those guys we all want, it just hasn't been reported yet because they are under the radar. But the Renaldo Hill visit has me worried, he has relatively nice stats, but he's simply not the player that Sean Jones is.

I pretty much agree, except for one thing: we have our #2 receiver in Royal. He may line up in the slot for the majority of plays but he's still the #2. Oh, and that list of players would be about perfect.
