  • The Strange Mock for 2009

Okay, Ladies and Gentlemen, to stir up the pot even more I now present you Igor B. Strange’s Mock Draft of 2009.

    1.
1A. James Laurinaitis ILB - Ohio State – Smart, versatile, just makes plays. My pick at 18.
    2. Patrick Chung S - Oregon – High motor, good intelligence and leadership.
    3. Keenan Lewis CB - Oregon State – Tall CB for the AFC West receivers.
3A. Sammie Lee Hill - DE/NT Stillman – Could be a beast in a year or two. Smart, athletic, versatile, good motor.
    4. A. Q. Shipley - OC – Penn State – If he falls to here, I say grab him.
    5. Frantz Joseph LB - FAU – Impressive kid, betcha he’s a pro bowler in a few years.
    6. Bear Pascoe – TE – Fresno State – My kind of guy. Dishes out the hits and makes defenders pay.
    7. Roy Miller NT - Texas – I think he’s a real sleeper. Great motor, good initial hit into the Offensive Lineman to push the pocket.
7A. Vaughn Martin NT/DE - W. Ontario – The size and talent of this kid are unreal. If he’s still available, I think he’s a great pick.

Why nothing for the first pick? Because if I had my way I would trade down, get more picks this year or next . Get Philly’s or TB’s pick plus a 3rd next year and another 6th or 7th this year. Then I would choose the BPA.

Heck, why not trade #12 to TB or NYJ for their 1, no. 3,7 next year and a no. 6 or 7 this year.
Then send 18 to Philly for the same package of picks? The Broncos still can get Laurinaitis and another very good player. Why not set us up for next year with a fat bag of picks for players or to trade for what we need then?

I just think this year is full of low round surprises and small college surprises ala Kendall Langford, Brandon Marshall, etc..

I would love to see Sammie Lee Hill and Vaughn Martin lining up in the hybrid 4/3 - 3/4 with their size and speed. I'm sure Nunnely can make these two into beasts. How can you block two guys at 6-4 and 320+ pounds with their speed and strength? The opposing OL would be burned out by the 2nd half. Add to that the fact there will be a rotation with Fields, Powell, Thomas, Peterson? Oh me, oh my, oh goodness me. I love the thoughts.

    Go Broncos :salute!:

James Laurinaitis is a 2nd Round Talent who is rated behind Rey Maualuga.

We need a OLB first then a ILB(DJ Williams , Andra Davis , Spencer Larsen).

Sorry but I think Denver is going to draft Defensive Lineman 1st in this draft!!!

Sammie Lee Hill is a decent player but is probably not going to start his first year.

Roy Miller is now rated 3rd Round Pick

He's right...that would be way to high to pick lauranitis. besides he's a horrible fit for the 3-4 (cant shed blocks). I'd feel sick if thats who we got in the 1st.

"D" grade for the DT draftees this year

If what these guys say is true, should we just draft the best players of value no matter the position, in order to make moves after the draft or in the year to come?

this vid is under the draft link on the left

We need to get the most out of our 5 main pics this draft don't ya think

At least Raji and Jerry are still considered elite prospects. I would also put Ziggy there, the guy looks really good.

i would be happy to get raji, but if not then i don't want to reach for brace just because he is the second best nose tackle. just make do with fields this year, and next year get mount cody. i don't care how he plays, but any 6'5 370 pound man that can do a 360 dunk should be on our team.

Puttin' the D back in Denver 7 Round Mock

                1st Round
                12. Tyson Jackson DE-A good 5 technique player like Jackson with ideal size and superb hands is exactly what we need to stop the run and kick start the 3-4

                18. Robert Ayers DE/OLB-Possibly the steal of the draft at 18, a guy Mayock says can be the best defensive player in the draft. He's no more of a project than any of the other OLB/DE's in the draft and most of all he knows how to get to the QB. Don't be surprised to hear his name at 12 cause picking him at 12 would ensure us Jackson or Maualuga.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAR9Qb3liRs (notice Andre Smith lookin silly)

                2nd Round
                48. Ron Brace NT-Broncos are blessed with a minor miracle as Brace falls to the 2nd. He doesn't have ideal size for an NT but he's a safer pick than Raji because of Raji's off the field issues.

We now have our NT, OLB, and DE

                3rd Round
                79. Sherrod Martin CB/FS-We have 2 quality CB's but we have no depth Martin can provide depth at both CB and FS and can learn under Dawk and Champ and someday take over for one of them. He can play nickel immediately.

                85. Rashad Jennings RB-With almost all our holes on D filled we get Jennings who falls due to his lack of elite speed and no dire need for an RB earlier in the draft. He can come in and winning the starting job in camp.

                4th Round
                114. Jasper Brinkley ILB-Gives us more depth at ILB and can come in and compete with Larsen for that 3rd ILB spot.

                5th Round
                149. A.Q. Shipley C-We get Weigmann's successor here and after a year on the bench he's ready to start in 2010

                6th Round
                172. Graham Kano K-Let's face it Prater was garbage last year. We'll give him another year to earn his keep but keep the pressure on him by bringing in Kano

                7th Round
                208. Daniel Holtzclaw ILB-Another depth pick hopefully we'll find a diamond in the rough at ILB

                218. Lawrence Sidbury JR. DE-Once again a depth pick to add to our thin stable of DE's.

So there you go if you gotta flame feel free.

Its pretty good, i like all the picks other then Robert Ayers. I don't trust that we will play good as OLB in the 3-4. Also Holtzclaw will go higher then the 7th.

Other then that i like it, i love the Sherrod Martin and Jasper Brinkley picks in the later rounds.

So I just watch the Ayers Video you posted i really like the guy would he be put at OLB just rushing the passer or would he be put on the other side and let Doom rush the passer?
He only had 3 sacks last year but really did well against the run it looked like at 6"3 270 would would you think?

                        DE Connor Barwin

Take a look at this kid I love his football smarts and motor of never stopping really until the whistle blows not to mention his Athletic ability He played TE for a while i guess. Would love to Get this guy in the 3rd round if he is availible as our backup Rush Linebacker for a year or so and develop him.

I like Barwin alot too but I don't think he'll be available in the 3rd he might not even be there for us in the 2nd and I see Ayers as the player that is not only better now but has more upside. Barwin will be solid for someone but it might take a first rounder to get him.

As for Ayers Nolan likes to use a real aggressive blitzing scheme so Ayers would be able to rush the passer as much as Doom/Moss but yes I see him able to cover RB/TE's and bring the ruckus in the backfield.

why not use our 1st 1st for an elite and then trade away every pick left for high picks next year....say a several 2nds and another 1st. The next years draft is so much deeper talent wise Just a thought...
