  • Tebow in 2010?

I'm a noob here, and I know there is a high likleihood to be mericlessly flamed for this post, but please hear me out.....

As a flatlander in Florida (but not a UF fan), I've had the opportunity to watch this kid play alot. I realize that he has to do alot of work on some fundamentals to have success at the next level, but I'm just curious to hear fellow Broncos fans opinions on the matter.

There are obvisouly some knocks on him at this point -- Reputation of Florida QB's in the NFL, very limited exp. operating from under center, elongated throwing motion etc....

But he's got a good arm, seems to make good decisions, is good on the run, good attitude and work ethic, and I think brings some good intangibles to the table in the leadership dept.

"Experts" see him as a mid to late rounder, and worse-case has the possibility to transition into an H-back type player should he not be able to cut it as a QB. He's got Scott Loeffler as his QB coach, who did a pretty good job developing that guy in New England when he played college ball.

I'm just interested to hear what you guys think. Is he too much of a gamble to invest a 3rd or 4th round pick in?

I don't see the Broncos picking a tight end that early.

Tebow has very little chance at success as a drop back passer. His collegiate success will likely not transfer to the pros as the offense he runs is not used on the professional level. Tebow is someone who will be converted positions I believe, or it will be a 2nd-3rd round pick as a developmental QB prospect. Players like Bradford and McCoy will be drafted high next year.

Sorry, you can not add yourself to your own ignore list.

I don't think Tebow will play in the NFL if he can't play QB.

He does have another year to prove the haters wrong. People say he won't transition, yet he's dominated at every level of football he's played.

If he kicks ass again and wins another national championship, you can forget about this 4th round stuff. And, I imagine, anybody trying to draft him with the intention of him playing anything other than QB.

He's a great leader, and I love his fire. I'd be proud if he was a Bronco.

TeBow shouldn't be Drafted as a QB....If your gonna just waste a Pick, you should at least donate it to the LIONS...

I'd take Colt McCoy based off of the fact that he has "it" with some physical ability to boot (and a hot girlfriend!)

If he wins another championship, and makes strides in the passing game, he'll be drafted in the first three rounds as a QB. He is certainly an exciting player, and I'd be proud to have him here too. MY only question, as well as many other people, is his ability to actually play QB. Again, I don't question his fire or his heart, but its not like he had a bad team around him.

Haven't posted in a while, but saw this thread and had to throw my opinion out there...

I've watched every game he's played in since he is a freshman and I have to say that i see completely different things than most people around here do. I'm not sure if it's because the Gators aren't broadcasted on TV out here in Colorado often so they only make an opinion based on his highlights from ESPN, or if they only decide what to think about him based on the big games that are nationally televised. Either way I think the wrong judgements are made about his passing ability. He makes some rediculous plays with his feet, and these are what are most likely to be shown on Sports Center, not the 10-15 yard nicely placed passes. I feel like that right there makes people assume he's just a running quarter back that passes every once in a while. Also, in big games he has a tendancy to carry the team on his feet more than the smaller games. If thats what it takes to win, then so be it. I'd rather take a QB who will do what he has to in order to win games, than a guy who only wants to stick to one thing.

His freshman year he was used as a change of pace QB, but mainly as a short yardage running back. His sophomore year he relied on his feet, but also made huge strides in his passing games, which made him one of the most dynamic players in college football. This past season as a junior he really began focusing on being a pocket quarterback, and only running when there was a break down in the offensive line's protection, or if it was a designed run. In the National Championship game he rushed for 109 yards (which was obviously necessary to win the game, why not run it up the gut if OU is letting you?), but that was his highest rushing total of the season. In 8 of the 14 games played in '08 he rushed for under 50 yards per carry, which obviously shows that he'd rather pass the ball than bail and carry it himself. It may come as a surprise to most people, but the kid would actually rather stay in the pocket. He stands back there, goes through his reads and throws the ball. If he doesn't see any open receivers he will go through his reads again until the defense is putting to much pressure on him, in which case he is certainly okay with pulling the ball down and running.

He does have an elongated throwing motion, from what i hear the coaches at UF are working on. I've also heard that in spring practice they are adding more plays that put Timmy under center in order to get him more experience in an NFL situation (obviously this wont be a large part of the offense, don't want to completely redo an offense that has won you 2 National Championships in 3 years, right?). With increased experience in a drop back offense, with a couple tweaks to his throwing motion he will be a great pro quarterback in my opinion. I know a lot of people disagree, but I think it would be crazy to take a QB with this much talent and understanding of the game and switch his position. I'm sure when the draft comes around he will tell teams he'd rather play QB, and only teams who want him on the roster under center will draft him.

I also live in Florida, Spring Hill to be exact and I do not see what the hype is with this kid. I don't like his style of play, I don't think he personally is the reason UF has won their national championships and I don't think he will ever be a worthy QB in the NFL.

                          just my opinion.

I think Tebow is a project at QB or TE in the NFL, but is actually less of a project at QB simply because of experience. At TE, he will have to learn how to block, run routes, and catch. He doesn't have much experience with those things.

Smells like sour grapes after watching Tebow dominate your team for the past three years.

Tebow is not the only reason UF won those championships, but he is a big reason. There is no denying his greatness in college.
