Yea, I must really lack intelligence.
That comment was WAY below the belt, so watch what you say about people you know nothing about. You don't know me or have any idea how I teach. You can make generalizations all you want about the school system, but I LOVE my job and take pride in teaching the kids- I treat them as if they were my own. I scored an 1140 on the SAT by the way, which for me wasn't that great, but that's for me to say and no one else, other people might be happy with that.
YAY TEACHERS!!!!!!!!!! I'm a teacher myself

p.s. if we made average babysitting wages, $5/hour per kid, we would make almost $200,000/year?

I have seen time and time again how tests are anything but objective. You are going to measure how someone does on ONE test on ONE day? I didn't do that great on my SAT either, so I guess I must "lack intelligence" as well, even though I graduated with honors. Some people are just not good test takers, it doesn't mean they are stupid. If anything, I agree with the previous poster.
... take it from a guy who has been teaching for 36 years, I heartily agree!

The three-headed monster (Cerberus?), Colleges of Ed./State Depts. of Ed./public school administrators, need to have "I don't know **** about education" tattooed on their foreheads, like Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks, so they can read it in the mirror.

Anybody who believes standardized tests measure anything we want to know has no business in anything involved with teaching kids.

During my career, I have asked the question, "What is the relationship of grades to learning?" No one has been able to show me the relationship because there is none.

I stopped writing "objective tests" (i.e., multiple choice, true/false, matching) a long time ago. I have my students write essays in US History and translate Latin into English in that class.

If you want to know what someone knows, ask them. The results are fascinating. :salute!:

here in Colorado they just passed a law that goes into effect in a couple years that bases teacher tenure and job status on the CSAP (our state standardized test) scores of the students in their classes.

          ... a pre-test and a post-test?

Or, is it like that piece of **** SBA test required by NCLB that tests juniors every year and compares the scores for AYP? Let's compare the scores of two completely different groups of people, why don't we? Useless. "If no child gets ahead, then no child is left behind." as my just-retired teacher-wife says.

How about the other NCLB requirement of participation? Schools have to hunt down each student who missed the test and make them take it. Why in Hades would you want someone who has been absent 20+ times to take the stupid test? Oh, I know, it makes your school look worse. Which is the objective of NCLB ... to destroy public schools.

On top of all that, we are experiencing a general strike on the part of students to all standardized tests. Just look at the short-cycle test test results in math and English, and then look at students you know. They are blowing the tests off because they are sick of them.

On top of it all, we teachers are being held responsible for this gross stupidity over which we have no control.

no pre and post, just once a year every spring......Math, Reading, Writing, and Science. Science is only in 5th, 8th, and 10th grade though I think.
