Raji and Orakpo will be gone, so you are looking at a bunch of players that don't bring nearly the same credentials to the table that Maualuga does.
Whether you agree with it or not, that was Rey Maualuga's defense at USC.
HE was the leader, HE was the player that was pre-season All-American,
HE was the player all opposing coaches looked at first when gameplanning for the Trojans.
It ALL started with Rey Maualuga.
Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews rode his coattails.
Rey Maualuga is far and away the leader in terms of intangibles and what he would bring to this defense. He immediately gives any defense he is on an identity. He is a cornerstone that a great defense can be built upon. Virtually no other defensive draft prospect can say that.
He also fits perfectly into 4-3 and 3-4 sets, and when combined with DJ Williams, who also should be very useful in what Nolan wants to do, it gives the Broncos a strength on defense. The combination of Maualuga and Williams would be an absolute strength of the defense, and certainly would not 'take away' from each other...I also don't see him as a bust risk. The guy is a hammerhead football player, period.
To me, it's a no brainer...Rey Maualuga is a tough, physical, nasty presence in the middle of any defense he is on, and to me, defense is as much about attitude as anything....why do you think he is being projected to teams like San Diego and Baltimore?
If he is good enough for them, I don't see how Bronco fans can turn their noses up at him.
To me, Maualuga is the choice at #12.
to me
Everette brown = moss big lanky LIGHT fast DE that can't transend the College to pro trasformation
Raji = gone
Orakapo = Gone
Jackson probably still on the board at 18 where Rey won't make it past the chargers.
Picking up the NT in the second, and one of the DE's left at 18, means Nolan gets his field general MLB in his lap at 12. Notice that the scoutts (went to USC to scoutt a QB, and the master QB tallent scoutter, McDaniels, wasn't there.............ever think that they may have made one more stop other than Sanchez while they were there?????????, and that the scoutts that went were the Contract guy and mcdaniels right hand man, he happens to be a OC). It would be COMPLETELY against the parcells/belichick teachings to A go for a QB early, and B trade up in the Draft for ANYONE. Trade down, and late round smart QB's are gospel.
Stack boston colleges brace NT second round pick, with Ray MLB, DJ, and Dawkins S, up the center start covering the edges with the guys we already have/FA's plus a Jackson type DE, and you are talking a Defense with Nolan scheming away, and you are heads above last years product, not to mention if you get some late round situational help from some middle rounders.
Next year do whatever it takes to get mays from USC for dawkins to tool and hand the reigns to, and i can smell the orange crush from the belly dive compititions outside mile high already!!!!!!!
Man-o-man am i pumped for this next yearLast edited by owninit; 04-22-2009, 10:47 AM.

Best plan I have heard and I completely support.
Draft Rey at #12
Draft or trade down into the backend of the 1st and take Brace
Draft Sidbury at #48
This gives us at least 1 day one starter, maybe even all three
Rey at SILB
Brace at NT
Sidbury at SOLB.
We also get bigger and meaner.Adopted Athlete: Leone Battista Alberti

Either Suh, McCoy, Cody or Robinson will be available. I would like Sean Smith in the second as a big CB/S providing depth at both. Getting Mays or Berry and one of the above NT to go with Maualuga and either Cushings or Tyson Jackson , Sean Smith would do wonders to our D. If we don't get rid of Moss I really dont see us going after Sidbury IMHO.
