  • Eagles no longer trade down partners

The Eagles have traded the 28 pick in the draft and a 4th rounder for Jason Peters..... As well as some undisclosed pick next year.

This will change things for the Bills at 11 and the Eagles as potential trade down partners....

I would expect the Bills to go OT at 11 and the Eagles don't need a tackle anymore.

Here is the link if you are interested

The Eagles have worked out an agreement in principle to acquire Bills left tackle Jason Peters, according to multiple sources.

...and they still could trade more picks for Anquan Boldin as well.

I had been holding out hope that Andre Smith would fall to us at 12 and the Eagles would want to move up. I have known all along that this was not much more than wishful thinking based on my disappointment at our options at 12.

I think this is a huge move for the Eagles and I could see them make a more for Boldin or maybe even Peppers. I live in Philly and there has been alot of talk about how the Eagles are going to invest some of the massive cap space they have. I think we have part of the answer. I am surprised the rumor around here is that the Bills were insisting on pick 21.

The good news is that I think the Bills will have to consider OL at pick 11. They have too much invested in that offense to not have a franchise LT. I would guess that Oher or Andre Smith will come off the board at pick 11.

Yep, kind of bad news for us.

The #12 pick had serious trade value in the event one of the last "Big 4" OTs were still around, so a team could jump Washington. Now, with Monroe/Jason Smith locks to go in the Top 6, and Andre Smith widely considered to go somewhere between 6 and 10, this puts Micheal Oher squarely in Buffalo's crosshairs. I know both Oakland and Green Bay are very interested in Oher as well, so we'll see if he even makes it to Buffalo at #11.

I also think Philly is out of the Boldin/Johnson/Edwards sweepstakes. Jason Peters is going to cost a ton of money.

Wasn't Peters trying to get some ridiculous contract out of Buffalo? If so, then the Eagles might end up paying too much in the long run. I think his effectiveness was off last season, anyway, wasn't it? I wonder if Buffalo with go OT at 11, or try to wait and use the 28th. Hopefully 11, because the more offense that is picked in the top 11 picks, the more defense there will be for us to pick from.

Does matter to me. I see it this way, what do we know?

At least 3 maybe 4 OT in the first 11 picks
at least 2 maybe 3 QB's in the first 11 picks
            2 WR's in the first 11 picks
2 OLB in the first 11 picks

We are sitting pretty in my opinion. We are going to get a nice pick this year at #12, just like last year.

Peters wants upwards in the range of 11 mill per year. The Eagles still have a ton of cap space, even after signing Peters. They tend to be more diligent with their money so I am not sure it means they will spend it.

I tend to think they will keep their other first round pick and take the BPA at that time. I think the top of their list will be Moreno and Pettigrew, but Andy Reid is tough to read..

Very good point. If Oher goes in the Top 11, that likely means Everette Brown does not. Especially with Sanchez and Andre Smith apparently firmly in the Top 10 as well now.

So, now the top talent most likely to be at #12 will be Knowshon Moreno, Malcolm Jenkins, Brian Cushing, and Everette Brown. I don't think a single one of those guys falls to 18. Our trade value might be gone, but I really do like those four options at #12. Personally, I don't see LB as a glaring need, inside or outside, so I'd probably lean towards Jenkins or Moreno, probably Jenkins. I think this is Champ's last year with us and we have nothing behind he and Goodman. But...if the team feels it does need an OLB/DE prospect, Everette Brown is the one I want.

If that happened, and barring a miracle of Raji being available at 12, I'd be ok with Brown or Jenkins. I'd love to see Moreno play for Denver, but I just am having trouble justifying such a high pick on RB when the defense is so shaky. I could see Jenkins at 12, Gilbert at 18 (small reach, but the only shot at him), and Brace at 48 (lucky if he falls that far) helping to fill some of our glaring needs. Not my ideal scenario, but a workable solution, methinks.

My preference, if those players fell to us at 12, would be to trade back a bit with someone else, but I don't think I see anyone there who would be good trade bait (unless for some weird reason one of the OT still falls...).

                    edit:
What the hell, if those are the players at 12, I could live with Moreno, too. Just make sure we get Gilbert, Brace, and pick up one of the other safety/cb prospects (trading up into the second if necessary). Moore or Delmas would absolutely rock, but they'll probably be gone before we get to pick again.

:salute!: I think they were thinking hard about Pettigrew before, but now it's certain, since they don't need to try to spend the 21st on an OT. I've heard other people say that they like Wells, too, for that matter.

That is actually good news for Denver takes away there chances to go after BJ Raji. I'm not sure if they were one of the teams that were looking at him but the trade helps out our BJ Raji cause. IMO :go:

Well, I don't know if they ever really were seriously considering Raji because they have Marcus Stroud.

This may lessen the chance that they go after a DE\OLB to improve their anemic pass rush. Even if they don't they have to consider something in free agency because their pass rush may have even been worst than ours.

Some trades involving players-picks, in this draft:

                            DEN gets 1st & 3rd (2009) & 1st (2010) for Jay Cutler (QB)

DET gets 1st & 3rd for Roy Williams (WR)

                            CLE gets a 2nd (2009) & 5th (2010) for Kellen Winslow (TE)

NYG gets a 2nd & 5th for Jeremy Shockey (TE)

                            BUF gets 1st & 4th & undisclosed pick(s) in 2010 for Jason Peters (LT)

Either the DET & BUF really stuck it to DAL & PHI, or those teams were desperate for a move.... LOOKS LIKE DEN didn't get enough for Jay Cutler.

Unless DEN turns those CHI picks into All-Pro studs, or at least turns those 3 picks into 4-5 picks and select productive players..... Well, settling for what they got was not wise.

DEN originally asked for 1st & 2nd this year, 1st next year plus Orton. They called our bluff and we caved. Do you really think Angelo would have let Cutler slip through his fingers over the difference between a 2nd or 3rd rounder? I doubt it...

For DEN, though.... HUGE difference between the two selections.

DEN should have said: Your first in 2010 is a LATE first, so we want your second this year. OR, at least bargain: Like, if your first is 25-32 range, well, then we get another 3rd next year.

ANYWAY.... the only really possible trade candidate now.... IMHO... could be NE, NYG or DAL.

Giants have plenty of ammo to slide up to 18 or even 12. Only question is: do they want to draft their guy, or pursue one of these troubled WRs available right now?

NE might want a certain defensive player, and with MCd's relationship with BB.... who knows?

DAL might be itching to get a top WR, and if someone is still there they might look to swing a deal.

I think it is between Moreno and Pettigrew for the Eagles at 21....

I do believe they could use a DE that has some size against the run. Their DE are on the small side. I would not be overly surprised to see them jump on Ayers or maybe even a Gilbert in the first round. Reid loves the big uglies and I can't imagine him passing up a chance to improve one of his lines.....
