Who is the safest biggest impact player at 12?

I couldn't agree with you more...He is the safest pick, but will Moreno be that much more effective than the collective sum of backs we currently have? It's much like our QB situation...JMD runs a pretty precise systems offence...as long as most of the pieces are in place, he has proven he can work with systems QB's and a comittee of RB's that buy into system.

The question is do the Broncos try and save face with the Cutler trade and pick Moreno ( the closest sure bet available at our pick). Or will they take a chance in filling holes of desperate need.

The Tyson Jackson pick to me would be safe, but it is not in my opinion, a desperate hole to fill considering the bodies we have there.

In regards to the BJ comment earlier...he kind of worries me as well...I don't know if he is worth the risk. But that means we come out with maybe a Baker at NT, because there is no way that Brace lasts till our 2nd rounder. ( Green Bay will take him for sure if they miss out on Raji 1st round).

I still dont see what the problem with Baker is. Yes he his isnt as strong of a penetraitor as Raji or Brace. I understand that. I would prefer Brace but ending up with someone with Bakers speed at his size is not like we lost the lottery. The man can drop back better then Raji or Brace right now.

Well, traditionally OTs, RB, and LBs are the least likely to bust. So, lets look at the players likely to be there at #12 at those positions.

OT - The big 4 should be gone, especially now that Buffalo needs a LT. So, I'm going to assume the best remaining OT is Eben Britton whom should go either #16 to SD or #22 to Minnesota. He's probably a RT in the NFL, and he'd be a reach at #12 to a moderate degree. Still, he pretty safe but we don't need a RT, so he wouldn't make an impact for us.

OLB - It's likely that Orakpo and Curry will be gone. This leaves Everette Brown as the best remaining 3-4 OLB prospect. He's shorter than ideal and needs to get stronger. Still, FSU has a pretty good track record concerning 3-4 OLB/DE types. However, there is still some risk here and it may take some time to make an impact. He's not a bad option though.

ILB - Its going to be Rey Maualuga or Brian Cushing for the 3-4 defense. We will have DJ Williams playing inside so either of these guys will be 2 down thumpers. That means limited impact unless DJ gets injured. Plus, they would likely at least start out behind Andra Davis for a time. I'm not too worried about risk, I just think the impact will be minimal.

RB - This should be Knowshon Moreno. He has no flaws other than long speed, and that didn't stop Emmitt Smith or Terrell Davis. We need an immediate starter at RB and this is probably the easiest of all the positions to step in from Day 1 and make a ridiculous impact. With a solid O-line and receiving corps to draw away attention, I think Moreno would be dynamite, though we do have a pretty hard schedule against teams with good run defenses.



So, my vote is for Moreno.

Basically what he said... But i think Jenkins is a relatively safe pick but not necessarily an impact player immediately...

As for Raji i think he is the opposite of safe.. He may be a great NT or he might suck at it... in which case we are left with him on our roster taking up space... (no pun intended)... haha.

Sanchez again could be great in our system but he is already slightly behind Simms and Orton in terms of learning it and i think they would leave him on the bench this year for him to learn... so again low immediate impact.. he could have a chance of beating out Orton or Simms but with their actual NFL experience they are much safer starters for us and as JMD said he wants to win now...

+1 for K.Moreno he would be a starter from day 1 and would tear apart opposing D's and take the pressure off our QB.

If we can get Raji at 12 and Moreno at 18 i think we would have got the best possible result from the first round!

I like your analysis. I think Moreno and Rey Maluaga are the safest picks in this draft (at least at 12). I think both of them will be very good NFL players. I feel that the front 7 is a much bigger need and our FA decisions seem to lean towards us drafting front 7. While Moreno might be the safest, I think the signs point to us drafting front 7.

Precisely for those that dont know that dont know football.

Psycologically speaking the lower you pick a player the lest likely they will be a bust because you arent puting so much hope on them. 5 QB's are listed as the biggest busts of all time and there are plenty of first round QB's who have been busts many of them coming from USC Florida and other top schools that constantly put out top QB's.

We need a stud, and have a lot of holes. So what players would qualify as stud impact players very early in their pro careers?

My choices in order would be:
(players that could be available at 12)

1. Malcolm Jenkins - our new free safety ball hawk...finally we could have that ed reed, troy pol or antrel rolle type safety.
2. B.J. Raji - he is higher more because it is such a vital need for us
3. Maybin/Ayers/Barwin - we need a speed demon QB killing machine
4. Marc Sanchez - will be a stud in the right system, which Denver would be...but is the gap difference in performance that much greater than what Orton can produce with our offence...I don't think it's worth it.
5. K. Moreno - He would be my number one pick if not the abundance of very capable running backs currently on roster

Lastly notice there are NO defensive ends or linebackers there for 12...I really think it's a waste to take Jackson at 12 when we have Marcus Thomas, Peterson, Reid and now Powell who would be all perfect run stuffers in a 3/4.
Do we really think Jackson would be that much more of a difference maker than the above?

Also at linebacker...I'm almost getting very sold on the thought that Woodyard is going to start inside and Dominate this year! That puts four capable guys in the middle DJ, Woodyard, Davis and Larsen.

The only spot that I'm not absolutely sold on is outside linebacker. You have to think betweem Doom, Moss, Crowder, Boss, we would have one capable stud. I really would like to take Barwin at 18.

Jenkins and Barwin are just the type of character players that the new Broncos management is looking for. Their fire and abilities along with Dawkins, Champ and Davis would just light up this Defence to a whole new level.

Lastly...does anyone worry that BJ, even with all his talent, would not be this kind of character guy? Do you think he will be as infectious on his teamates like the above type of players?
