I like Ringer or Josh Vaughan (the best ignored rb in the draft). Ringer has some durability concerns and the fact that he is maxed out on his frame makes people quiver a bit but he is good.
If what Scott Wright says of Moreno speaks true I dont think he is a solution to a problem. He doesnt seem to be a jack of all trade hes really a master none. He is to aggressive which leaves him open for punishment, and he does not show signs of being a full time work horse. The prenounciation of his name says it best just say NO-shon to Knowshon

Honestly, I think our defensive needs are just too large to take a running back in the first.
I'd like our first four picks to look like this:
1. Raji
2. Jackson/ or BPA
3. Sidbury
4. Ringer
That's a pipe dream to grab Raji at the 12 but it'd be nice.

I think Myoung has made all the arguments I would make. I would only add the following:
I don't know of course if McDaniels really believes he has a chance to go anywhere this season. Maybe he does -- maybe a coach has to.
But you have to believe he knows this rebuilding is going to take more than 1 season and that he'll be lucky to win 6 games with all the changes to personnel and coaching, the brutal schedule and the new system on both offense & defense.
That means his job all comes down to whether he can win 10 games next season. Because 2 losing seasons in a row will very probably get him fired!
Logically, he MUST get the best defenders he can this season because it's going to take them a year at least to learn their positions.
It wouldn't do him a bit of good if he could draft Mario Williams, Haloti Ngata and an OLB who turns out to be the next Adelius Thomas if it takes 3 years for them to develop! That would probably be 1 more year than he has to prove himself.
Pat Bowlen isn't talking all the time about how much he loves McDaniels' "commitment to winning" for no reason! He brought McDaniels here expecting to see some progress, not go 5 years without a playoff berth!
McDaniels' best chance under this kind of pressure is to make HUGE strides THIS season on defense. It almost doesn't matter what the team's record is this year. They just aren't going anywhere. Next year is what is key.
He can easily get a RB next off-season and expect that rookie to start and be immediately effective.
Meanwhile he needs to draft as many rookies THIS season as possible on defense, and then get them enough badly needed experience that NEXT year he's got the nucleus of a solid defense in place.
He also has to hope that Orton makes a quick transition to his system and that he can get the offense in gear by at least the end of this season.
If everything lines up right he's got a hope to have everything reasonably in place to make some noise in 2010, and have a reasonable chance of perhaps winning the division and hosting a home playoff game.
If not, at least there should be enough progress for Bowlen to give him another year!
I freely admit that I may be wrong about what he's thinking. He might think the team could come out of nowhere and compete this year. I don't believe that for a minute, but we'll see.
If so, then Moreno provides much more immediate benefit than a DE like Tyson Jackson or a S/CB like Malcom Jenkins does. Neither of those players will likely provide much impact in 2009.
Moreno provides the most immediate bang for the buck. No question.
I just think in the end it's going to get McDaniels fired if he doesn't immediately go all out to fix the defense, starting with the first pick and going right through the 3rd round.
In retrospect Mike Shanahan lost his job because he delayed too long in drafting DL (and defense in general) in the top rounds, and then when he DID make a move in 2007 to grab Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder and Marcus Thomas, two out of the three turned out to be complete busts. It was kind of like a slow motion train-wreck in which you can see it coming a mile off but can't believe there's no way to avert catastrophe! He tried Browncos and cast-offs like Sam Adams and DeWayne Robertson, and nothing worked.
I just think McDaniels may be dooming himself if he doesn't get going right away in round #1 and fix the DL.
But, I have to say he might very well not see it that way!Last edited by Cugel; 04-23-2009, 09:54 PM.sigpic
