  • Tony Gonzalez Dealt To Falcons

    Per Fox

Tony Gonzalez is finally getting his wish.

The Chiefs have agreed to trade the perennial Pro Bowl tight end to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft, FOXSports.com has learned.

Gonzalez has been the symbol of the Chiefs offense for the past 12 seasons, making 10 consecutive Pro Bowls and six All-Pro teams. Kansas City drafted him with the 13th overall pick in 1997.

        Tony Gonzalez to Falcons

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade perennial Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft.

Gonzalez had asked the Chiefs for a trade in March if the right deal came along. The only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, Gonzalez was usually double-teamed during Kansas City's 2-14 season but still caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He plans on playing at least one more season and possibly two.

This certainly takes the Falcons out of the Pettigrew race at the end of the first round.

I think the Chiefs got ripped off, a 2nd round pick in 2010 for a HOF tight end who showed absolutely no signs of aging last year. The Falcons got a great player and i'm glad the Broncos wont have to face him two times a year

he may only play another year so i'd say it's a solid deal for the chiefs though i'm not sure cassel would agree

i know i'm happy with the deal...cassel loses his biggest receiving threat

Nice! Last year it was Allen and now Ganzo. Pretty soon that team is just going to give up on every superstar it has, and I won't complain!

Breaking news on ESPN. Tony Gonzales traded to Atlanta for a 2010 second round pick. I for one will be glad that we don't have to see him twice a year.

That's a shocker! It's quite weird how a team lets go their best player. I've seen that happening in Denver ( Sharpe in 2000 ) and it happens all over the league!

I'm not as excited as you are. Tony has talked about only playing for another year or two and was hoping to get to a potential SB-type team if KC wasn't going to be too agressive. Seems like that is what he got.

But, the Broncos probably aren't going to be competitive enough over the next year or two that a game against KC is going to make or break them. If KC hits on the 2nd rounder, it could be a great player in KC for the next 10 years vs. 2 years for Tony.
