  • Malcolm Jenkins vs Vontae Davis

Alot of people have talked about the possibility of getting Jenkins at 12 to play CB/S or Davis at 18 as the best pure CB because he's so much more athletic but when you compare the numbers they're really not too far off.

    Jenkins
    Combine Results:
    40 Yard Dash : 4.54 seconds
    Bench Press : 15.0 reps
    Vertical Jump : 33.0 inches
    Broad Jump : 124.0 inches
    3 Cone Drill : 6.59 seconds
    20 Yard Shuttle : 4.07 seconds

    Davis
    Combine Results:
    40 Yard Dash : 4.49 seconds
    Bench Press : 25.0 reps
    Vertical Jump : 36.0 inches
    Broad Jump : 125.0 inches
    3 Cone Drill : 6.75 seconds
    20 Yard Shuttle : 4.07 seconds

So as you can see they have identical 20 yard shuttle times, their jumps are pretty much the same, Jenkins is much faster in the 3 cone, and Davis has a .05 second advantage running a straight line.

Also, Jenkins has been a shutdown corner for 3 years now against top competition, he plays fast and last year when people claimed he ran a 4.3 everyone believed them.

My point is, I think he has as much or more ability than anyone else in this draft to be a shutdown corner but am not really an expert and havent watched game tape of him vs other corners. What do y'all think? Agree disagree. Who do you think is going to be the better player and do you think Jenkins is capable of playing corner well or is he just like Antrel Rolle?
    Draft Wishlist:
    1: B.J. Raji (NT)
    1: Evander 'Ziggy' Hood (DE)
    2: Connor Barwin (OLB)
    3: Chris Baker (DE/NT)
    3: Kevin Barnes (CB)
    4: AQ Shipley (C)
    5: Frantz Joseph (ILB)
    6: Graham Harell (QB)
    7: Everette Pedescleaux (DE)
    7: Sammie Straughter (WR)

I agree, but a team can still make the mistake of drafting the speed...

Ala Titans taking Pacman over Antrel Rolle because of the 40 times. Worked out
    very well.
Club Leader: Robert Griffin III > Andrew Luck

Jenkins is a better player than Vontae Davis, hands down. VD was benched this season at one point for getting beat too much. I think he's just like his brother in that his play on the field will not match his measureables at the NFL level. Plus, his maturity and coachability have been questioned. No such questions have been raised with Jenkins.

BTW, you haven't gotten around to making a new sig mock, huh?

Yeah, I especially like draft time and usually do a lot of scouting on players and stuff but hadn't posted in a long time I guess...I got rid of it now and am going to have to come up with a more reasonable wishlist

They can also make the mistake of drafting poor character like Vontae Davis. They would be better served drafting Jenkins or Darius Butler

I'm also a fan of Alphonso Smith and think that if we've adressed the front 7 already and he's available in the 2nd we should take a long look at him.

He's super athletic, highly productive and huge playmaker. He's physical and if he were a couple inches taller would be a lock for the first round. I think too many times, corners get overlooked because of theyre height. If they can run and jump and make plays on the ball it shouldn't matter

Neither if you want a shutdown corner in the NFL get Jason McCourty
Yes his interception are low but 115 tacks in 2 seasons. He is fast and has great recovery. He is dangerous and is a 4th or 5th rounder.

This is a guy who wont be beat and with training from Bailey can be a good player in a few years

Jenkins To play FS, he would be money if all the bigger names are off the board.

How about neither? The gap between Jenkins and the next best CBs (which I don't consider Davis a part of- he sucks) is not very big. Certainly not big enough to justify taking one in the 1st when you can get a similar quality player in the 2nd or even 3rd.

So the question then is who do we take and in what round if Champ is possibly leaving soon and we have nobody to take over for him or be our nickel back.

There we go! I have the Broncos taking McCourty too, but not until the 6th round which may be a little low but we'll see. As far as Davis/Jenkins goes I would take Jenkins just for the versatility of him playing Safety or Corner and has better character. For the pure CB I would go with Davis because he is more physical and is much better against the run than Jenkins.
