Denver has so many needs...who to take?

With the new Marshall saga, we will likely have 2 first rounders, along with an extra third, and that helps, but it leaves another gaping hole at the WR position...

this leads me to wondering who to take?

Dez would be the obvious replacement choice, but we have so many other needs, and getting rid of Marshall would just open up another position of need.

I feel Orton had a good season but I don't think we will become consistent contenders until we find a true franchise quarterback, which brings Clausen and Bradford into the equation. However, chances are those two might be gone by our #10 pick, which would mean we would have to trade up, and use more picks.

Also, our o line has arguably been the reason for no run game, and often below average pass blocking (partly because of orton's limited mobility) but still our interior o line remains, IMO our biggest problem on the team, yet no interior o line should be drafted at the spot we're at.

Our defense is not young, and although our secondary had a good season, they are all old, and an infusion of youth is needed there. Another pass rusher would not hurt the broncos, and Rolando McClain would possibly be the BPA pick at 10. D line is also a major need, and the question is will McD try to keep going on with these same D lineman.

So Denver could actually go in many directions, but need help at a lot of positions. FA shouldnt help much as we are trying to resign some big names.

With so many needs, what do you think ranks as the priority, and who do you think is the pick?

Well, it's important to start with where our first pick will be. I did some math, and it turns out we will have the 11th pick thanks to the Bears. We have a 3-way tie with the Jags and Dolphins at 7-9, and as a result of Strength of Schedule, we finish 2nd, behind the Jags, and in front of the Dolphins. The game tonight has no bearing on the final outcome in the 3-way race, either.

Miami finishes with a .5547 SoS w/ a Jets W, and a .5469 SoS w/ a Jets loss.

Jacksonville finishes with a .4883 SoS w/ a Jets Win, and a .4844 w/ a Jets loss.

Chicago finishes with a .5000 SoS w/ a Bengals Win, and a .4960 SoS w/ a Bengals Loss.

As you can see, whatever the outcome tonight, we are sandwhiched by the two aforementioned teams. So you can mark us up as selecting at the 11th position in the first round.

So, some of the options remain on the table, including: McClain, Haden, Bryant, and Davis. Bradford is in doubt, as Redskins have been heavily tied to him, and a team could trade up with the Jags to jump in front of us to select him if the Jags have their eyes set on the later 1st round pick Tebow. It kind of throws off some of our hopes of having that elite talent, as a lot changes from being the 9th (what most of us hoped for) to the 11th (our drafting position).

I agree there are too many spots we will need to fill... But i think we need to get either McCoy or Tebow.... I would love to see Bradford come to Denver but that means giving up an extra pick... So i would say save that extra pick and get either McCoy or Tebow... then look into getting a WR

Assuming we keep players our biggest needs are on the trenches.

What we do is:

Trade down our first to the late 20s, pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd.

Draft a NT
Then a DE
Then an OG
Then an OC
Then a COP back

We'll have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, more than enough to fill those 5 needs.
With that out of the way, we can now run the ball with effectiveness and stop the run just as easily.

I agree with the QB selection. I think the sooner the better we can groom a guy to be our franchise qb, as it takes some time with most qb's (matt ryan and flacco exceptions to the norm)

Hopefully we trade up and select someone elite, or trade down and help to fill the many holes we have. The problem is finding the right trade partner because everyone always wants to trade down, but its not just that easy, and often difficult to find someone who wants to give up picks.

Going along with your hopeful draft order: I could see McClain and Iupati (elite Guard talent projection) in the first. 2nd round go Maurkice Pouncey to play Center of the future. Draft Danario Alexander or Dezmon Briscoe in the 3rd. And go after Richard Seymour (if untagged) or give up the pick for Logan Mankins. Plenty of options, most require a draft pick, even in FA. Sign of the times.

The thing with QB.... It's too risky to be taking one n the 1st round (especially this year). Look at Hoyer (NE).... Kid is very good. He wasn't even drafted last year!

The P-Mannings of the world are very rare.... For every P-Rivers, there's a bunch of B-Quinns....

We have to hope that Tom B is Mcd's guy. He drafted him.... selected him.... he was the target.... Too late to turn back now.

Sure, we could draft a Bradford and let him sit next year. Let Orton walk. Tender him a 2nd or 3rd rounder.... Let Tom B. start.... Why not?

Maybe we can trade Marshall to CAR for Matt Moore?

The thing is..... it's just as easy to find a QB later in the draft as it is in the 1st round.... Just need to do your homework.

Denver has had trouble running the ball on Offense and stopping the run on Defense.



We need a Center and Guard on Offense.


We need a STUD DE or NT on Defense.


If we don't fix the Offensive and Defensive Lines it doesn't matter how good a WR we draft.

He was impressive last year for sure, but he was also surrounded by talent. He doesnt have a huge arm, he's not mobile, similar to kyle orton.

AMEN my TX brother. People need to understand that Mcd has made his choice- and that's Orton & Brandstater. We wont know until around 2011-2012 if he chose wisely. I think he goofed. I think Brian Hoyer was the answer last year.

Anyway....

Mcd values TIME and PRACTICE.... He would probably pass on Manning b/c he values "learning" his system so much. What we'll get is Orton for 2-3 years... WHen he stinks or get hurt, we'll get a glimpse of Brandstater...

By the time Mcd realizes he bet on the wrong horses.... he'll be fired, and the Broncos will be looking for a QB come the 2013 season.

I really hope Tim B has the stuff.... I know Hoyer does! I find it kind of funny how NE gobbled him up after the draft.... They had Brady (and they still outsmarted Mcd and got a QB who is better than anything DEN has on their roster?)

I think we're stuck with Orton for at least one more year and won't see the Broncos take a quarterback in the first round.

This doesn't have to be a bad thing if the Broncos fix the defense and the running game.

On defense, they need a pass rusher, a nose tackle, and a defensive end.

On offense, they need a left/right guard and a center. If they bring in a road grader, they might consider moving Kuper to the left side so they can put the road grader on the right to help out Harris.

I could see them taking Dez Bryant to help make up for losing Marshall but I think it's more important for them to address the defense in the first round.
