  • currents mock drafts have denver taking defense

Out of the 5 to 6 mock drafts I have seen only one has denver taken dez bryant in the 1st round.

The 1st two rounds are going defense, NT,DE(pass rusher) or ILB and not in the order. Is that the consensus around here?
Can we all agree these are priorties as of right now?

I think DEN probably goes ILB, DL & WR/OL. I think we go 1-1 (both sides of ball) with our first 2 picks. I think we'll go heavy on linemen though.

At #10, you take the best playmaker available. To me, that is going to be Dez Bryant. And he would help our team dramatically. Right now, I believe the draft will unfold thusly:

      1. St. Louis - QB Jimmy Clausen
      2. Detroit - DT Ndamukong Suh
      3. Tampa Bay - S Eric Berry
      4. Washington - QB Sam Bradford
      5. Kansas City - LB Rolando McClain
      6. Seattle - OT Russell Okung
      7. Cleveland - CB Joe Haden
      8. Oakland - OT Bruce Campbell
      9. Buffalo - DT Gerald McCoy

I'm not sure who else Denver would take at this point other than Dez Bryant. Derrick Harvey is the best defensive player available, but he might not transition to OLB, and if Jax wins the coin toss, they'll pick him if they don't take Tebow. Bryant is the best offensive player, and best player overall. Trading down is an option, and then someone like Odrick comes into play.

Alot of folks believe McClain and Haden will make it to #10 or #11, depending on where we pick. I don't think either does. With those two gone and Cameron Heyward staying in school, I think Dez is the best available player at a position of need.

McClain or Bryant will likely be our picks.

Hey MUG, what do you think about our FB situation? I started a thread earlier but haven't gotten many hits, yet.
        1. LB Arthur Brown Kansas State
        2. SS Dj Swearinger South Carolina

MUG I know I have also had Dez Bryant in my mocks but after thinking about it for a while I don't think we trade a diva WR just to draft another one. Bryant has had run ins with the law just like Marshall. I like Damian Williams from USC. People say he is the best route runner they have seen in the draft in 5 years. And an ESPN article I read about him says he has only dropped 2 passes this year. Bryant isn't really consistent enough.

If we go WR I would rather trade down around 20-30rd and draft WR - Golden Tate

Golden Tate - has played in a NFL Offense for Notre Dame and Charlie Weis.

Tate is 5'11" 198lbs who had 93 receptions for 1,496 yards and 15 TDs this year

and 58 receptions for 1080 yards and 10 TD's last year.

I think Golden Tate will step right into McDaniels Offense and contribute from day 1.

We could draft Golden Tate and get a extra pick!!!!

I dont want bryant. i dont want tate. i want DANARIO ALEXANDER. this dude should be higher then what he is projected to go. Big Frame with good hands and blazing speed. we dont need another wide reciever that is eddie royals size. we needa big threat if we lose marshall.

Danario Alexander Wr Missouri 6'5 210 BEAST

I hope Mcclain is there when we draft. The guy will be a stud in the 3-4 and is a leader. Fits our philosophy perfectly.

I just dont think Bryant is going to transition this offense into anything more then it is already with out fixing the lines. If orton does not have the time to throw the ball this offense will struggle again as well as the running game. Eddie royal had 91 catches last year. And i still feel he is a viable piece to this offense. And i dont know if MCD was trying to play to the strengths of this team running but we ran alot. I think Buckhalter took alot of Eddies touches. I really dont see anyone trading up to the spot unless someone drops.

Just say no on WR in the first. Please go defense. McClain and/or Cody/Dan Williams. If they trade down then maybe take a Iuputi but Im also not so sure Asomoaga isnt a better value in the 2nd or 3rd.

But just say no on the WR. Guard is actually a bigger need.

MUG, you just made me cry a little. The thought of KC taking McClain and having to see him line up twice a year on the other side of the ball makes me wanna hit something. The only thing we can hope for is a lot of late risers that might push him down a few spots. We need a guy like that on the Defense.

                        I say defense

If we trade Marshall then yes get a reciever but we should get a 1 and a 3 for him if we don't get that and we keep marshall then draft defense. Denver at 10 with no other pick in the 1st round, we should get a good defensive player.

I'm totally down for Rolando McClain if he were to be there when we pick. If he isn't, I expect the pick to be the player who will contribute the quickest, and I believe that's Dez Bryant. We need a true deep threat, and a guy who can up and get it. Bryant doesn't have the best speed, but he is the best WR in this draft in going up and getting the ball at it's highest point. That's what we lack. Walterfootball compares him to Ochocinco, and quite frankly, I like the thought of that.

If McClain's there, I'd love the pick, and with the Marshall trade looming, we will most likely secure another mid-to-late round 1st. At that point, I wouldn't mind seeing Mike Iupati, or even Jared Odrick. I expect these two to pin their value in the early 20-35 range by draft time, so the value would be enough to justify the selection. Each would add some much needed youth, upside, and most of all, talent, to our lines.

Keep Marshall, please! Draft D, D, D! If we could somehow get our hands on Ndamukong Suh, Terrance Cody or Gerald McCoy by trading up for Suh or either trading up or GOD willing have him fall to us. I would give up next yrs. 1st round & 2012's 3rd round for Suh and a little less for Cody (Just at this point in time). Cody is still a beast! If we get either of these guy in the draft we instantly become legitimate contenders next yr. If we keep Brandon too mind you.

I think we need to stay away from the "playmakers" like bryant and tate. We need to address the lines on both O and D so we can provide help to the playmakers we already have.
