  • McClain and Mays

I think we all know that the only impact player that could be available at 11 would be McClain... Should we trade down if he isn't there? I've seen a lot of Mocks having us take Taylor Mays... Who will be a total bust in my opinion... What do you guys think?

I pray Mcclain falls to us. I dont want Mays, he should have come out last year. He wasn't that good, but he is an athletic speciemen, something that Al Davis would covet. But he already did that when he took Mitchell last year. I doubt we take any Safties seeing as we drafted 2 last year. And with Dawkins and Hill we are set at saftey. Last year we tried to go safe with draft picks, guys who could contribute on ST and hopefully emerge as starters later. This years draft will be all about the trenches. Which is why I say again, I pray Mcclain is there.

I live in Alabama... sec country... I've watched Patrick Willis turn into the best MLB in the league in 2 short years... Ro Ro (McLain) is a sure fire all-pro on the next level... I promise you that... If he is available where we pick (like Orakpo)... I'm going to lose my mind.... This kid is the next Rey Lewis... the next Pat Willis...

In my eyes he is the second best prospect in the draft behind suh!

I think he is the safest pick in the whole draft as in you know you are at least
going to get a starter for years if you take him. The probability of him ending
up being Willis is very high as well, but right now I have him as the third best
          prospect behind Suh and Berry.

There is no doubt in my mind that McClain will be an instant contributor. I like him even better than Aaron Curry, and I feel like he has the ability to play any position in the LB corps. He is a very underrated blitzer, and we all know how much we like to send our LBs from any position. He's a natural leader, and a film conoisseur. He makes a ton of sense, but unfortunately, I highly doubt he's available at 10 or 11.

In my honest opinion, I'd rather have 2 other safeties before Mays. Eric Berry and Chad Jones in my eyes will be solid pros. They are both leaders, and they are some of the most consistent safeties you will find. Mays takes horrible angles, gets lost in coverage, and relies too much on his athletic ability and he has huge lapses in technique. I really don't like what I've seen from him this year, to be blunt.

The only problem with McClain is if he has a good combine showing he will shoot up draft boards and be picked way too high...Much like Tyson Jackson last year.

I'd be very very happy with McClain. If we got Taylor Mays I'd be sick. He honestly reminds me of Roy Williams. Big and strong and a mean hitter but overly aggressive in pass coverage which leads to huge yardage and TD's. He doesn't make very good plays on the ball and I think would honestly be better off as a 4-3 OLB.

I agree with all of that, extremely underrated blitzer. Some people question
his range/speed, I can honestly say I have noticed that being a weakness of
his while watching him play at Alabama.

I also prefer Earl Thomas to Taylor Mays as a prospect, not sure about Jones
                  though.

Shoot up?? I see no way McClain falls past Denver at 11 and fully expect him
to go in the top 10, as high as 5 to Kansas City. The only ways he can hurt
his stock is by running like a 4.8 at the combine or by suffering a serious injury
                  in tomorrows game...

Taylor Mays is always getting hurt. Literally, every USC game I watch, hes getting hurt.

There's no point in having a QB if any good DT/NT can barrel into the backfield in under 3 seconds.

Orton gets adequate time, he simply never delivered. T

The guy hasn't shown anything in his entire career.

I definetly agree Earl Thomas is a better prospect, but I kept it to guys who I considered would come out, and Thomas supposedly is staying. But yes, Berry, Jones, and Thomas are all better prospects at this point. That doesn't mean they will be better than Mays in the long run, as I do believe with proper coaching, and a breakdown session of his technique he could be a great safety, but I would feel more comfortable drafting the three aforementioned guys.

And, going with McClain, the only thing that would really hurt his stock is if he had an offseason like Andre Smith. But, with a high character guy like himself, I don't think we will see that. And I also agree that his speed shouldn't be put into question, sometimes instincts can translate to the best on-field speed.

                              McLain ...

... every day of the week.

He is much more needed and is a better player than Mays.
