  • Why not Dez Bryant even if Marshall stays?

I keep seeing that Bryant would only be our choice if Marshall goes but I disagree.

I think we keep Marshall and could still get Bryant with our top pick.

This would enable us to move Royal to the slot and we BADLY need a deep threat and while Marshall is a great WR he is not generally a deep threat, even with that 'skins game.

The way I see it is we have 3 options.

Draft Dez Bryant (if he is there)

Draft Rolando McClain (if he is there)

Trade down (if we can get good value)

I think Gaffney will be our #2 reciever with Royal in the Slot, so if we keep Marshall then i don't see us drafting Dez.

If Denver is going to return to their winning ways we need to fix those problems 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
It is widely agreed around the league that our lack of a deep threat is killing our run game, I even heard a Vikings fan on nfl.com say that the other day in the 'comments' section of an article.

but saying that I do agree with you that our top needs are DE and C, LG but there is no one there worth a selection at 10/11.

We can look at DE in round 2/3 & FA and C, G the same sort of area. Also, don't forget about Seth Olsen.

I think that unless we get good value in trading down then Bryant and McClain are by far the BAP's at positions of relevant needs and could be excellant players in this league.

I think we agree that Royal is a slot receiver.

Gaffney had a good game against KC and I don't mind him but we still go into next year without a deep threat then. (unless you are REALLY banking on McKinley stepping up big time)

This looks more and more like our default draft choice, especially if Marshall is traded, as expected.

But I wouldn't select Bryant, and I won't like the selection if it happens.

I would also be willing to bet he will disappoint.

On top of all of that, Bryant could be selected at the same draft choice as Michael Crabtree, which spells contract negotiation issues, etc, and if he holds out for any substantial length of time, his rookie year would be ruined, especially in the wake of not playing this past season for OSU.

Please, let's hope McD is smarter than that.

Please say NO to Dez Bryant.

It's really tough to judge our WR's, because it is so obvious Kyle Orton locks in on one target.

You saw it with Marshall and you saw it with Gafney. Rarely does Orton look to spread the ball to multiple receiving options, which is what great QB's and offenses do.

There is just so much wrong with this team, it is really hard to comprehend that we could have regressed that badly in the wake of a 6-0 start, but we have.

I think 2010 is looking more and more like a disasterous season, IMO.

Why have a deep threat when your QB rarely throws it deep?

                Alot of assumptions here -

1 - Marshall being traded, I don't think he will be.

2 - Bryant not being a good WR when he has looked FANTASTIC in college when he played.

3 - Bryant holding out just because Crabtree did. Its not the norm.

He has proven he can throw deep and has decent arm strength but its more down to the face that we didn't have a deep threat IMO.

I really was excited to see what McKinley was gonna do. We will have to wait and see how he recovers from his knee injury. I know Steve Spurrier said the McKinley was the best reciever he has ever coached. It was said last year that McKinley could have went as high as the 2nd rd or as low as the 3rd, but because of his small frame, he fell to us in the 5th. I don't mind drafting Dez if Marshall is gone but if not then i'm not sure.

1...You are kidding yourself; Marshall is as good as gone

2...Wow, a WR that looked good in a college spread offense! That NEVER happens...

3...You better hope not, because Bryant is no Michael Crabtree to begin with, and I don't know what NFL you have followed, but the 'norm' is ALWAYS to look to what a comparable player got, especially at the same position and/or draft selection, and advance on that.

This draft choice would be a complete disaster, period, unless Bryant becomes an All-Pro, which isn't likely, IMO.

I hate the idea of this draft choice so much, it's really hard to put into words.

I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed for Rolando McClain until mini-me McD screws it up and selects Bryant.

C'mon, you seriously think if we draft Bryant then Orton will suddenly start throwing 50 yard bombs every play? Yes, Orton has a strong enough arm to throw it deep, he just isn't very good at it, that's why he never does. If McDaniels opened up the play book he'd be an interception machine, just rewatch the KC game if you don't believe me.

When people say deep threat I think of guys like Desean Jackson, Bryant is not a speedster, he runs a 4.55 40. He is not a guy that will run deep routes on every play, if we want someone to do that we already have McKinley who is faster.

When Eugene Parker is your agent, it is the norm.....IIRC only 1 of Eugene Parker's Top pick high profile clients didnt hold out, I think it was AJ Hawk but not sure.

Assuming Marshall stays, I wouldn't take Bryant because this is a pretty deep draft for WRs. The Broncos have other needs more pressing needs than WR.

Orton's last game didn't have anything to do with going deep. Two of his interceptions came from a linebacker and the other was a hail mary in garbage time.
