Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

Man, you couldn't have said any better than that. Everybody wants these elite recievers but they seem to forget one thing; we don't have anybody to throw them the damn ball. What is it with these people? With the current offense we run we only need half backs, full backs, and good slot recievers. To draft someone other than that would be a complete waste of talent.
As I have said before, we are currently stuck with the short game because we have a qb who can't make his reads quick enough and who can't throw the long ball with any consistency.
We can blame the short game on Mcd's system all we want and thats probably true but why is the short game the only thing we currently have in Denver? "The Quarterback". Need not look any further than New Englands' Tom Brady going down field at least 8-10 times per game. Actually, this is McD's fault too as he is the one who gave us Orton. I'm not dissing Orton but we need to draft Skelton who has all the intangibles to make this offense a once again 3 dimensional system. This will take time, but thats all we have right now.
Skelton is a project, and is projected to go around the 6th round, this thread is about what to do with the first round pick. You're right, I think this team needs a new QB, if we want someone to start next year its pretty much Bradford or Clausen, both we will probably have to trade up for. Everybody else beyond that is a project QB, and we already have one in Brandstater.
Maybe we will get super lucky and Brandstater will step it up next year, and we wont have to worry about the QB position.
We make a trade with the skins and one with the eagles, get Michael Vick
We draft
1) Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma
1) Dez Bryant WR Ok State
4) Chad Jones S LSU
5) Alex Carrington DE Ark St
6) Earl Mitchell OG V Tech
7) Sergio Render DT Arizona
Vick Starts at QB while bradford grooms..wins comeback player of the year and SB..
Dez becomes the rookie of the year...
Chad knock hats off in the long tradition of Bronco S's
Carrington,Mitchell,Render...big bodies who work into the lineup

So i Have looked at almost everybodys mocks. To my knowledge probably 80% of the people on here want Dez Bryant with the 11th pick. But to me the question is why?? I understand hes the best wide reciever in the draft. i understand hes a very good deep threat.
Honestly our Denver Broncos need a lot of help right now. We need D-Line, O-Line, a QB that is actually a threat, and probably some young talent in the secondary. Dez Bryant may be the best deep threat in the draft but tell me this. how is he going to be a deep threat if we dont have somebody who can give it to him deep. kyle Orton is not the answer guys im sorry. Why want a guy when we just went three full seasons with a guy who had 3 100+ catches in all of them. Did B-Marsh help us win?? Did he get us over the edge?? No. So why do people think Dez Bryant will? Weve tried this for three years with a star wide out and it has not worked. Isnt it time we try something else. Why waste a FIRST ROUNDER on something that isnt going to get us over the hump.
Dez Bryant is not the answer.
So im asking everybody on this entire forum why do you want Dez Bryant if he isnt going to get us over the edge?? THINK ABOUT IT
There is merit to many people's posts and ideas on this topic. In this debate I'll have to side with the OP. Dez Bryant may be a great WR and he may be the best elite talent at that position in the past several years. To me, that doesn't matter. You build a team from the middle out and from the line back. Detroit has taken 4 WR in the 1st round in the past 10 years, all of them top 10 picks. Where did that get them?
The Broncos can't run the ball and can't control the LOS on defense. If you can't do that, you can't win no matter how good your passing game is. To me, there are only 3 players in the draft to even consider in the first round, 4 if you throw in Joe Haden which isn't a high priority yet and there are quality CBs to be had later in the draft. I'm not counting the gimmes like Suh and Berry since I don't think they will make it past #5. McClain, Dan Williams, and Jared Odrick are the only logical picks imo.
3-4 ILBs with the speed, athleticism, and intangibles that McClain has are few and far between. It's been a long time since a player like this has come out to fit the SILB spot in a 3-4 so well. He has played that position in college and dominated at it. How could you pass on this guy for a WR? Every year there is a stud WR or 2, it's not every year a stud ILB comes available.
My second option, Williams is by far the best option at NT this year, leaps and bounds ahead of the #2 guy, who imo is Cam Thomas. Very similar to last year with Raji and Brace. Good quality NTs are also hard to find and imo, Fields is a second tier NT, not the elite talent you want as the primary starter. Building from the middle out on D, you start with the NT. Williams dominated the best the offenses had to offer at the senior bowl and would be the best choice to upgrade the Dline. The same could be said for Odrick and the only reason I pick Williams ahead of him his DEs are easier to come by than NTs.
I think McClain will be available at the #11 pick and with a trade or 2, they should be able to move back into the lower part of the first round and pick up either Odrick or Williams. That would instantly upgrade the starters and depth at those positions. Davis/McClain at SILB, Fields/Williams at NT, Odrick/someone, maybe Peterson. That would be a very solid starters with very solid backups to rotate in or come in as needed. Secure the middle before worrying about peripheral skill positions imo.
There's no question Dez is the top WR in the class. He's another elite receiver that teams 3-12 will absolutely consider. I don't think he'll get past the Chiefs, but if he does fall to Denver, that's gotta be the pick...
We need help all around. So what should we do? DRAFT THE BEST PLAYER! How many times has a team drafted for needs rather than the BEST PLAYER and it backfire? McClain or Bryant would be the best players at that position. Dan Williams? Good player, good pick, yes. Impact player that will turn our team around? Hell No! McClain could elevate our D by himself, Bryant could elevate our O by himself! Cody will not go in the first or maybe the 2nd. Teams have too many questions about him. So grab him in the 2nd or third! NT, solved. OL is a need but we can address that in free agency. Get the best player! We do need a WR whether Marshall stays or not. So if we get McClain, grab Benn in the 2nd, trade up for him I don't care! Just work to get the BEST PLAYERS!
Dez Bryant is an elite WR prospect. There hasn't been a prospect like him since Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitz. If he is there when we select we have to take him, he would be the best player available and he fills a big need. Marshall is a big headache and will be gone via free agency.
He wouldn't be my favorite pick, but he would be the best player available, by far.

Who exactly do you suggest we get in FA? There are going to be very limited options available and the few that would actually be worth signing are going to be EXPENSIVE.

Definitely agree. This isn't a very good FA class for offensive lineman. The only one that really sticks out to me as one that we could target is Eugene Amano.
I think McDaniels will try to add a WR later since this draft is so deep. He might look at someone with more leadership skills in the 1st round (a QB, McClain) or one of the top rated DL available (Williams, Odrick, Price).

I hope we don't draft Price. He's more suited as a 4-3 DT IMO. I'd like to get Williams or Odrick though.

anyone suggesting Mike Vick should get auto-probation. W T F you want a scrub player who admits half assing it and not giving effort, before he was busted and sent to federal pen, who is now nothing more than a gimmick QB at best is beyond any rational explanation other than he is black and use to be good.
