I've thought the exact same way. Ayers showed progress as the season went on, and I think he might have a breakout season next year. Moreno will be good as long as we put a good line in front of him. I think he will be better when our line gets a better push. McBath showed that he has good potential. He played well for a rookie when given the opportunity. He is a playmaker with great ball skills. I liked what I saw out of Bruton. He was a beast on special teams and played solid on defense. He didn't make a huge impact on defense, but he didn't constantly get burned either. I haven't seen anything out of Smith or Quinn, but they were only rookies so we have to give them time to develop. They could end up being great players. Smith's style of play reminds me of Asante Samuel. I'm not saying they're anywhere near the same caliber of player, but they are similar. Quinn will never be the big play pass-catching tight end, but he could still be a great player. I hope he can become a dominating blocker with just enough receiving ability to catch some passes and keep defenses honest.

Well, ...
I agree that 5 tech. is the weaker DL position.
I was thinking that if Dan Williams is there, he's the best DL prospect outside of Suh and McCoy. Derrick Morgan might be good, too, if he's still available although I don't know if he's exactly what the DL needs. Dunlap has major character question marks and Griffen seems like a lesser Morgan.
Ron Fields is a journeyman and not a long term answer. Dan Williams seems like a bona fide NFL NT, and those are rare. When one is available ... grab him, if your D is a 3-4.
When looking at the draft pool, I really wanted to find a great 5 tech. The problem with that position is that college DEs play mostly in a split-front and are useful mostly in that capacity or as OLB in a 3-4. So, I find myself looking at college 3 techs. whom I think could be good NFL 5 techs.
I think Corey Wooten would be good, but a reach at #11 and gone by #47. Jason Pierre-Paul might be there in the 2nd round, and if he was, then maybe him instead of Kyle Wilson. Maybe Alex Carrington would be a better 3rd rounder than LeFevour, but he just hasn't impressed me the way EJ Wilson has. Maybe I'm not the only one; maybe Wilson won't be there in the 7th anyway. Brandon Deaderick is a possibility, but he seems to be a 5th rounder which the Broncos don't have.
Odrick seems to fall in the same area as Wooten as does Price. If Tyson Alualu was available in the 3rd, I'd take him in a heartbeat instead of LeFevour. Maybe Lamarr Houston would be better than Ben Tate in the 4th, but I feel another RB is needed and I like Tate. I like Art Jones a lot, but his torn lateral meniscus injury is troublesome. He hasn't played since November and we haven't been able to see him in all-star games. The Combine may not tell us that much because of no contact. When the knee cartilage starts to deteriorate somtimes there is no stopping it for a football player (e.g., Dewyane Robertson). It's sad.
D'Anthony Smith, Mike Neal and Geno Atkins all seem like 5th rounders. Vince Oghobaase might be there in the 6th, but OL is also an area of need which is why I put Marshall Newhouse there.
So, I was hoping for EJ Wilson in the 7th, and maybe Geathers, Peters and Worthington as UDFAs.
Going into training camp there would/might be:- -Ron Fields;
-Dan Williams;
-Chris Baker;
-Marcus Thomas;
-J'Vonne Parker;
-EJ Wilson;
-Kenny Peterson;
-Ryan McBean;
-LeKevin Smith;
-Giovanni Holliday;
-Clifton Geathers;
-Corey Peters;
-Doug Worthington;
-Carlton Powell; and,
-Everrette Pedescleaux.
That's fifteen guys fighting for five or six roster spots with at least a half dozen of them eligible for the PS.
It's a puzzle.
If more draft choices become available, the puzzle will be less puzzling.Last edited by samparnell; 02-07-2010, 09:35 AM."Stultum est timere quod vitare non potes." ~ Publilius SyrusComment

... I see no reason why a NT shouldn't be able to kick down and play 5 tech.
