Amano gets a new contrac

The Titans have locked up one of their offensive lineman before he got close to free agency.

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports that the team has signed guard Eugene Amano to a five-year contract through 2014.

The Titans said that maintaining offensive line continuity was important, and clearly Amano was a priority over center Kevin Mawae, who hasn't heard from the team yet.

So what free agents can we go after now to bolster the oline? I know a lot of people here wanted him this offseason.

Yup, he was popular in a lot of mock drafts but I kinda suspected TEN weren't gonna let him become available. Would've been a really good option for us, but eh, what can you do. Fingers crossed they don't lock up Mawae so easily and we get a shot at him instead.

Probably not much. I would only expect us to offer a one-year contract, two at most. We wouldn't be signing him expecting the guy to be there long-term, maybe we'd draft a rookie to learn his position behind him. But that kinda fits with McDaniels' win-now philosophy, because the intangibles that Mawae would bring to the OL (character, experience, leadership) are invaluable.
