I'm assuming you're talking about Dan Williams? If so, what makes him "Elite"? Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't he a 2nd or a 3rd rd prospect? I was not impressed with Williams during Tennessee's Bowl game. So did he go from good to "Elite" because of the Senior Bowl? I'll admitt, he did have a good Senior Bowl, but as i've said before, he was playing on a 4-3 front instead of a 3-4, and i think that is a huge difference. I don't want to draft a guy that high based on a week of PRACTICE, where everybody knows that this is a job interview and you better give it 110%

Franchise tag for Aubrayo Franklin

As expected, the San Francisco 49ers will use the franchise tag on nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the move is coming; the deadline is February 25. Per Schefter, the Niners are expected to work toward signing Franklin to another long-term deal.
He arrived in San Fran from Baltimore via free agency in 2007, reuniting with former 49ers coach Mike Nolan, who previously coordinated the Ravens' defense. Franklin has developed into one of the best defensive tackles in the game, and the market for his services would be much greater this time around.
As Schefter points out, Franklin is one of three nose tackles who are expected to be slapped with the franchise tag -- the others are Vince Wilfork of the Patriots and Casey Hampton of the Steelers.
No surprise here. Wilfork will get re-signed or tagged. Hampton will get tagged. Pickett will likely get an extension. Slim market, but DE was more of our problem then NT.Comment

Alex Smith was solid, crazy they could of had Rodgers. They have a lot of good pieces on that team, definately the favorites in the NFC West with Warner retiring.Comment

I agree, AZ might be in trouble if they can't keep Dansby, Boldin and find a replacement for Berry and GandysigpicComment

All I was pointing out is Dan Williams shouldn't be considered elite. He isn't. He isn't Haloti Ngata. Dan Williams as of right now is just a 2 down player with upside. If he was elite he would be in the Ngata/Wilfork discussion as a 3 down player with pass rushing ability. Williams is not in that discussion therefore he isn't Elite talent in this draft.
Let's not confuse Elite Talent with Scheme Talent.
BJ Raji wasn't Elite Talent, but he was the perceived as the best talent at a certain position for a certain scheme.
That is what Dan Williams is. He is considered the Best NT for a 34 scheme, but in no way shape or form is he considered an Elite Defensive Tackle in this draft.
Typically he would go in late first top 2nd round. With more teams switching to 34 and NT in high demand for those teams they will reach to get him before another team does.
Finally due to the complexities of the position he will play and needs to learn do not expect him or any other out of position Pro NT to contribute much in their first year.
you have us drafting him? how good is that kid.Comment

Only knock on him is his knee, which the injury was over a year ago and if he shows up to combine he will be fully healed and will vault himself into the first round.
Also I have us trading down before we pick him up, not picking at 10/11.
Only way I take him down is if he does not show up to combine, other than that he is who I am sticking with, I am not one to flip flop every other day with new mocks and scenarios.Comment

I understand ALOT of posters love Dan Williams...
But who has done anything in the past drafts at NT? Dorsey, gonna be gone...he was drafted to play DT then they switched to 3-4, BJ...He did OK last year for the Pack but top 5 ...I dont think so, Perry Jerry...Nope, Brace...Was inactive (healthy scratch) for half the games...Its almost like the best NT or elite NT are UDFA or late picks...IE Sammy Lee Hill (Lions), Baker (Denver), Pickett, Wilfork was drafted, Hampton...Only NGata from the Ravens has panned out...
I want to see a skilled position filled with a top 10 pick...Give me DEZ, or McClain, Berry, Haden, Clausen, Bradford, Spiller...Give me a player that can move into the starting spot RIGHT away.
Go into the draft with a big board This would be my order...
1.SUH
2.McCoy
3.Clausen
4.Berry
5.Okung
6.Bradford
7.McClain
8.DEZ
9.Haden
10.Spiller
11.Davis
This way you check them off as they get picked...We probley wont have a chance to get the top 6 but crazy things could happen...
Lets say Rams take QB...
We lose Doom or Marshall...for a first and third...We couple 2 top 20 picks to Detroit for Suh...So Detroit could get Our first 10/11 and lets say Miami's pick... they could help themselves greatly...If your the Lions would you rather have lets say...A McClain and Spiller...Or a Haden and McClain...or just Suh. Probley the two for one becouse of how many needs they have.sigpic Adopted By:Comment
