  • Elevation's URFA list denver should consider

these guys are only unrestricted FA's who would cost denver no draft picks or massive contracts to sign....

i will separate my top 3 by each position and rate them in my opinion...

    QB

    AJ feely(Jets) 2.5 star rating
    Chad Pennigton(Dolphins) 2.5 star rating
    David Carr(Giants) 2 star rating

    RB

Chester Taylor(Vikings)(new deal from vikings expected...) 3.5 star rating
    Kevin Faulk(Patriots) 3 star rating
    Tatum Bell(UFL) 1.5 star rating

    WR

    Antonio Bryant(Buccaneers) 3 star rating
    Terell Owens(Bills)(unlikely..haha) 2 star rating
    Nate Burleson(Seahawks) 2 star rating

    TE

    Alge crumpler(Titans) 2 star rating(blocking only...lol)
    Ben Hartstock(Jets) 2 star rating
    Ben watson(Patriots) 2 star rating

    OT

    Mark Tauscher(Packers) 2 star rating
    Jeremy Bridges(Cardinals) 2 star rating
    Tony Pashos(49 er's) 1.5 star rating

    C

    Kevin Mawae(Titans) 3 star rating
    Casey Rabach(Redskins) 1.5 star rating

    G

    Bobbie Williams(Bengals) 3.5 star rating
    Rob Simms(Seahawks) 3 star rating
    Rex Hadnot(Browns) 2 star rating

    3-4 DE

    Dwan Edwards(Ravens) 2.5 star rating
    Jarvis green(Patriots) 2.5 star rating
    Travis Kirschke(Steelers) 1.5 star rating

    NT

    Ryan Pickett(Packers) 3 star rating
    Hollis Thomas(Panthers) 1.5 star rating
    Junior Savii(Dallas) 1 star rating

    OLB

Tully banta cain(Patriots) 2.5 star rating
    Derrick Burgess(Patriots) 2 star rating
    Joey Porter(Dolphins) 2 star rating

    ILB

    Larry foote(Lions) 2 star rating
    Antonio Pierce(Giants) 2 star rating
Nick Griesen(IR with Denver) 1 star rating

    S

    Ryan clark(Steelers) 2.5 star rating
    Tyrone carter(Steelers) 2 star rating
    Sean jones(Browns) 1 star rating

    CB

    Nate Jones(Dolphins) 2.5 star rating
    Dunta robinson(Texans) 2.5 star rating
    Rod hood(Titans) 2 star rating

these are all guys that would provide solid depth, vet presence, and should be able to start if needed...the 1 and 1.5 star players are for depth purposes while the 2-3 star players can start from day 1 if needed with out major liability.....

this is basically the list we should target starting March 5th, obviously there are guys coming off injury and age and thats why the rankings are low, but they provide valuable bridges.....

now its clear we wont be spending huge money on long contracts because of the possible 2011 lockout, so small time 1-2 year contracts for these guys could get em signed and bridge the gap for this team, keep in mind many otehr teams will feel the same way.....

its doubtful we see many high priced guys signed other than perhaps seymour, hobbs, and dansby for the most part these older vets and so so players will probally be most of what FA consist of

Keep in mind all tehse guys wont require draft compensation....many names floating around are RFA's so i wanted to give people a bonbafide list to target for there mocks that make sense for denver.

with 2011 bringing fear to the league its doubtful we see any more than 3 year contract signed if that...so keep that in mind when mocking guys like jarvis green for 4 or 5 years....its just aint gonna happen....these players are just gonna be stuck in the reality of small 1-2 year contracts with a decent signing bonus.....

    enjoy

I appreciate you pulling the list together. It is a good topic to discuss.

I am not the biggest Orton fan, but I believe Feely and Pennington would be a big step backwards. Not only from a production standpoint but probably from a stability standpoint as well.

I also think signing Taylor and Faulk is a waste of time and money. We have all seen what happens to the majority of backs after they reach a certain age. These two are well past their prime and will probably only thrive in the systems and roles they have now. I would stay far away from them. I know the concept is only a year or two but I still don't see the point.

The only guys (you have rated as starters) I would take from the list are:

    Antonio Bryant
    Mawae
    Williams /Simms
    Pickett

I don't think the rest of them will provide an upgrade over our current options.

      Pretty good list.

I *think* Cory Redding of Seattle is a Free Agent as well, he'd be a great 3-4 DE in my opinion. It was only a few years ago he was a Pro Bowl DT for the Lions. He played LDE in Seattle. 6'4, 290ish. They don't seem inclined to keep him.

Obviously, Mawae looks like the only potential upgrade at OC from Free Agency. I'm sure we'll consider him heavily. If any Broncos mocker does not have an OC in the first 3 Rounds, they are crazy.

Dwan Edwards and Ryan Pickett probably will be resigned in the next two weeks. I don't think either are really realistic options for us, though I'm sure we wish they were. I don't think the Pats will let TBC or Burgess get away either.

I'd actually rank Burleson as the top FA WR, especially for Denver. It will be very interesting to see if Seattle keeps him or not.

What a terrible Free Agent crop though, eh? Sheesh. Hopefully, some teams will do the "salary dump" thing with expensive draft busts (Vernon Gholston) or underperforming vets (Reggie Bush). Otherwise, this is going to be the biggest "need-based" draft in history, which should make it easy to predict.

Cory redding is interesting he had a horrible year last year, could be a fluke, but it was a contract year for him i expected much better results....but he could fit at RDE in the 3-4 but i dont think he fits our LDE role, and is he better than holliday at RDE??? not sure but he could be a cheap suprise for us there....

as for center yeah slim pickingts im still heavily on teh JD walton/THomas Austin bandwagon but hey thats just me.....matt tennant looks like the best 2-3 rd rd option after pouncey....

the center postion is just weak period this year....

yes edwards and pickett will probally be signed very soon.....banta cain and burgess probally wont both be signed.....i believe banta cain gets a good deal but i belive they will try and shortchnage burgess and he will go elsewhere

as for burleson i just do not like his injury history at all....scares me big time...but hey he is solid and is coming off a good year....

as for the FA class???? very crappy i expect about 1 maybe cool signing(hopefully bobbie williams...just my take) and 5 meh whatever signings from us...HAHA

I agree with your thoughts on Burleson. His injury history is bad and so is his toughness factor. He disappears when he gets dinged a little bit.

bobbie williams would be a good signing. hes big n can get a push in the run game. we could play him at right guard n move kuper over to left guard. edwards is another player i like but baltimore will prolly re-sign him. i would like redding if we can get him at a decent price. there arent many starter talent players. most of the players would just be depth signings.
                Go Broncos!!!:thumb:

I would take S Ryan Clark off that list. After the health episode he had in Denver a couple of years ago, Denver is the last place he will play.

I would put Kevin Walter on the list...WR Houston. I think he is the best WR in FA. He will be under the radar IMO as well.

No Julius Peppers on the list? I know he will be expensive, but the man is a beast. I also think he can play OLB or DE in the 3-4 (he is that good).

I hope we can grab Mawae with a 2-3 year deal so he can start this year and be the mentor for Maurkice Poucey...

What do you guys (MUG and EINC) think about Dunta Robinson in orange and blue?

Also, who among the RFAs do you think we should look at?

                        Ben Watson TE

                        Kevin Faulk RB

peppers will probally be the most expensive FA around, kevin walter is another version of stokley...i would pass

as for dunta he is a solid CB but his injury history is a big risk....if we could get a moderate 2 year deal i would be okay with that, but he will try for more and i belive there are teams out there much more dire at CB than us who will bite....

as for RFA my first 5 targets would be G logan mankins and DE john jolly followed by RB jerome harrison or WR steve breaston or CB richard marshall

but i dont think we can pay the cost to do this....we need all our draft picks....

Logan Mankins would be a good fit in Denver

Yup, Mankins would be an excellent fit but it's unlikely that the Pats let him go.

On the other hand, their other starting guard, Stephen Neal, will be testing the FA waters, and I think we have a good shot at landing him. And it wouldn't cost us a draft pick. Personally, I love his background, going from NCAA wrestling champ to starting lineman. He'd start for us immediately while we groom a mid-round draft pick.
