Which team had more players that received more playing time than our draft picks? I'm not talking about one pick, I'm talking about the entire draft, because that is what you're criticizing.
    1. Some people still defend it.
    2. It was lucky to only be the 14th pick. Seriously McD had no real reason to think he would have a good season last year. It should have been a top 10 pick like everyone thought.
    3. I do agree it could end up being worth it. I mean we could have probably picked over a dozen other players selected after Alphonso Smith and people would be calling McD a genius...still the basic idea of giving up a probable top 10 pick for a 2nd rounder seems to me like the owner was calling for cost cutting moves.

Alphonso Smith did not have great physical tools and played on a exceptionally talented defense the last year he played in college. I still do not get why he was picked by McD so high when so many other highly talented players were available.

Ehhhh...I don't know about cost saving, the Panthers did it too so they could draft Everette Brown, and they only had one first round pick next year. I think that McDaniels didn't have enough players on his board because of the shortened offseason, and way overvalued a few guys (mostly Smith). Basically he had to get the guys he wanted because if he didn't he had nobody left on his list.

its possible. i doubt we'll keep simms. i would hate to draft mccoy in the first round, but i wouldnt mind him in the 2nd or 3rd. we could use a solid backup QB. patrick ramsey sucked and so did chris simms.

It's WAY too early to be judging a draft class, you need 3 years before you can tell which teams hit and which teams missed. Remember at this time last year everyone would have taken Royal over Desean Jackson, now not so much. Antonio Cromartie looked all world in his first year (upon looking at it, it was his second year he came on, he didn't do much his first year), now the Chargers would love for somebody to take them off their hands. And Nnnamdi Asomugha, one of if not the best corner in the NFL, did nothing his first two years in the NFL, it wasn't until his third year that he came on.

If Alphonso Smith works hard maybe he becomes the next great corner, and teams kick themselves for not drafting him, but to write him off after very limited action in his first season is just plain stupid!

At the beginning of the year before the season started I made a thread asking who would have better numbers, DeSean Jackson or Eddie Royal and I was basically laughed at, everyone thought I was crazy to even suggest that Jackson might have a better year. The funny part is that Royal didn't even come close to Jackson's stats. So, lets give it some time before we jump to conclusions.

Within a couple years at least 7 of our 10 draft choices could be starting (Moreno, Ayers, Quinn, Smith, McBath, Bruton, and Olsen), if that happens it could look like a very good draft.

I agree! People like to rip the Ayers pick but if you listen to what the Steelers say, and I think we can all agree they're the gold standard when it comes to developing great 3-4 OLB's, it takes at least 2 years for college players to develop into starting OLB's in the 3-4 system. Yes Clay Matthews had a great year in Green Bay at OLB but he's the exception not the rule.

like mcdaniels has stated in numerous interviews that they have had a lot more time to scout players and evaluate them compared to last season and there isnt the hassle of hiring pretty much 100% new coaching staff and installing new systems and schemmes with the additions of players to fit these systems.

i say give him and the staff a fair go

Not to mention that McBath and Bruton have both been very good ST players and have shown promise in limited time on the field this year and could sure up the future of the position for multiple years to come.
McBath will be a starter next year. Ayers will push Haggan for a spot as well. Quinn will take Scheffler's 2nd TE spot. Those are 3 good picks to me.

Also, when it comes to Drafting there are a lot of boom then bust players. Those who look awesome their first year and then spin their wheels for the rest of their suddenly short careers.

The first one who comes to mind is Mike Croel, DROY for Denver in, I believe 1991. Mike Smith, DT, Arizona Cardinals was an All-Pro his rookie year and led DT's in sacks (more than the 1st rounder Eric Swann) then went belly up. There are a lot of them out there in the unemployment line.

The Vikings with Loadholt, Harvin, and the LB whose name I can't remember

The Steelers and all their WRs

The Redskins with Orakpo who was a beast who we could have taken

The Jets with Sanchez who took them to the AFCCG and Shonn Greene

                      The Texans Cushing won DROY

The Eagles with LeSean McCoy and others

And the Bengals with Andre Smith, Mauluaga, Michael Johnson.
I don't know if I will ever follow the draft the same after last year ...

So many other RB's,LB's,CB's on the board that the 3 the Broncos drafted I would think they would have to be really confident in them..Just looking at those 2 names in bold ... The Broncos got the pass rush they need and the RB and still have a 2 1st and a 2nd round pick and no matter who else they could have drafted at CB becomes mute because Smith a player I really really liked coming out of college was such a none factor ...

Not to stray away from the OP I would be happy with Colt McCoy as possible draft pick but not going any further until we can see and hear the chatter frm the combine...
